Knights of Columbus News At its November meeting, the Knights of Columbus, Paul VI Council 7368 approved donations totalling $5000 from the funds they raised at Delta Bingo & Gaming. A donation of $2500 was given to St. Vincent de Paul for their food bank and Christmas baskets for families in need, and an additional $2500 for other food banks and Christmas donations to families in need. Council 7368 meets every 1st Tuesday of the month at St.Kevin s site. Dinner at 6pm followed by the meeting at 7pm. All Catholic men are invited to join our Council. Speak to any Knights of Columbus member for information. The St. Kevin s CWL would like to thank all the volunteers who worked and to the people who donated items to the CWL TEA. As well, to all the people who attended. We couldn t have done it without you. We had a successful Tea. WHAT IS HAPPENING? Please contact the office if you cannot find your box, or if your mailing address is different from the label on the box. Note: The Office will be closed December 24th to January 1st, reopening January 2nd. For emergencies please contact Father Jackson on his cell phone # , or leave a message on the office phone , which he will be checking. This year we are excited to announce that there will be a Children's Christmas Pageant at Our Lady of Peace site during mass on Sunday December 23rd. In order to prepare for this we will need a commitment from the parents to ensure their children attend each of the next four Sundays. We do have some required outfits, but would also appreciate help with some of the costumes, e.g. if your child is a shepherd or a king. On Sunday Dec 16th there will be a 1/2 hour practice AFTER mass. New** On Saturday Dec 22nd, there will be a full rehearsal of the pageant with musicians and scenery etc. Time to be determined. On Sunday Dec 23rd the children will need to be at church at 10:30am (new time) to get ready. Questions? Jen , Romaine Memorial Christmas Flowers There are envelopes available in the foyer for parishioners who are interested in making a donation to the parish for flowers. We suggest this donation be given in memory of a deceased loved one. Loved ones will be remembered during a Christmas mass and their names published in the Christmas bulletin. 6 James Bay Project As you know St. Vincent de Paul society helps those in need in so many different ways. The Western provinces started a North of 60 Project to send food and necessities to those in the Artic. Conferences have been started and contacts in many communities have been formed. Southern Ontario conferences along with their parishes have come on board and fill a sea can filled with the specific need of a particular community. e.g. Iqualiut, Gjoe Haven etc. Here in the North, Rainbow Spirit North particular council has focused their attention on helping our Indigenous friends in the James Bay area as well as our Sudbury friends at N'swakamok Friendship Center, especially the students in the Alternative school. Gord and I have been to Moosonee, met with the Bishop Robert Bourgon, Fr. Paul Awole, and a few parishioners, to see how we could meet the needs of their communities. Moosonee, Attawapiskat, Fort Albany, Kacheshewan and Peawanuk. In the last year and half, we have sent many shipments of food, winter wear, tons of dried vegetables some boxes with broth for soup, and fruit. This came from Leamington Ontario. Last summer we sent a huge soup pot, electric skillets, sewing machines, material etc. and dried goods...flour, beans, lentils etc. This has helped the community of Moosonee and all extras have been forwarded on to some of the other communities. As we get contacts in the other communities, we will be able to send items directly to them.

7 They have had many social events, soup lunches with bannock and desert. Pancake breakfasts and the numbers are increasing at these events. Although we do receive help from SSVP Ontario, the Particular councils in North Bay and Sudbury, and St Kevin's Conference we would like to invite you as a parish to assist in this project. A quote from Bishop Bob has always stuck with me as we try to make life just a little easier for our friends in the far North. The community of Peawanuk must pay $10 a gallon for WATER.. Can you imagine!!!! They are the furthest North and the cost of their food at the Northern Store is extremely high. So please stay tuned as we continue to communicate with them and respond to their requests and needs. God Bless all of you! You have always been there to help SSVP in our special works! 8 Society of St.Vincent de Paul - St. Kevin s Conference In today s Gospel John the Baptist says, Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise Christmas is a time of love and gift giving please share your abundance by giving a gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that those who do not have clothes and food can share in the blessings of Christmas.
