3 Sacraments & ministries The Sacrament of the Sick Anyone preparing for surgery, the elderly, the chronically ill, may receive this Sacrament. It is usually celebrated at a weekday Mass or at home. Please call the Rectory Office. The Sacrament of Baptism First and Third Sundays of the month (please note there are no baptisms during the Lent Season). To scheduled a baptism, please call Deacon Al or Cathy Kucinski at The Sacrament of Marriage Arrangements should be made at least one year in advance. Please call the Rectory Office. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) Saturdays 4:00-4:30pm (or anytime by appointment) Ongoing Faith Formation The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A) is the process by which adults (and children who have reached the age of reason) are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. This will allow for anyone who is suffering from physical or psychological illnesses to be blessed by the priest at this Mass. 4 Saint Joseph Parish first ever Town Hall Meeting was held on Friday, September 25, About 125 people attended including parishioners and staff. Several parishioners had questions for Father ST (These are the continuation of these questions and answers): Q: Can the cross be in a more prominent place on the altar? A: There are crosses both on the right and the left of the altar. It was moved because we are people of the resurrection and the center should be the altar then the tabernacle. The angels adore and glorify Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Q: What will be the function of the parish council? A: All councils in the Catholic Church are advisory/consultative bodies and are there to help the pastor make informed decisions about the parish. Q: Can we put the cross back in the center until a cross is hung? A: That is not going to happen because of the reasons detailed above. Q: Can we do more to teach the theology of the angels to the children? A: We will put an explanation in the bulletin for everyone. Q: What is being done about the paint in the church which is flaking and not in good repair? A: I am looking into it along with cleaning the murals and any other repairs that need to be done with scaffolding. Father then commented on the following topics: Parish Council: There will be elections of parishioners who would like to be part of this consultative body of people for Father as his eyes and ears of the parish to assist in being good stewards of time and resources. Finance Council/Trustee: Father would like to add a few members to the Finance Council and add one more Trustee to the parish. If you have any financial background or expertise, please or contact Father. Moving of Offices: Beginning in October, the parish offices will be moved to 22 Halsted Street. The Annex: due to the exceptional amount of money needed to refurbish this property, Father is thinking about tearing it down and replacing it with modular office space. Historical Register: Father is looking into having our church placed on the local and national historical register. Saint Joseph Regional School: Father has committed the parish to giving an additional $10,000 to help support our school and has already saved $10,000 by renegotiating the trash removal contact..more to follow.. Respect life mass SAVE THE DATE: Bishop Serratelli will be celebrating a Respect Life Mass (previously called Mass for the Unborn). The Mass will be on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Saint Ann Parish in Parsippany at 10:00am. The Mass is sponsored by the Paterson Federation Knights of Columbus Councils. Following the Mass, there will be light refreshments. 5 COVERED DISH SUPPER Our annual covered dish supper will be Friday, October 30 th at 6:30 pm in the Community Center. All are invited. This year we will have a Halloween theme for the young and the young at heart. Bring your favorite dish and renew old friendships and make new ones! Come join the fun and games and get to see who the grand winner in the 50/50 drawing is. You don t have to have a 50/50 ticket to join us. The parish will supply coffee, tea, juice, rolls and butter. Please call Anne Savacool by October 23 rd and let her know how many will be coming and what you will be bringing to the dinner! Winning ticket will be drawn on October 30 th at 7:30pm in the Community Center.
