If you give by standing order or the like please put a token in the offering in the offering bags as they go around as an act of worship and as a token of what you give in thanks to God. Children are welcome at every service. If your child becomes restless during the service, please feel free to go in and out. 2 Collect, Reading, Psalm and Post-Communion Prayer COLLECT Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification: grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. ALTERNATIVE COLLECT Risen Christ, for whom no door is locked, no entrance barred: open the doors of our hearts, that we may seek the good of others and walk the joyful road of sacrifice and peace, to the praise of God the Father. OLD TESTAMENT READING EXODUS Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided. The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. The Egyptians pursued, and went into the sea after them, all of Pharaoh s horses, chariots, and chariot drivers. At the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and cloud looked down upon the Egyptian army, and threw the Egyptian army into panic. He clogged their chariot wheels so that they turned with difficulty. The Egyptians said, Let us flee from the Israelites, for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt. Then the LORD said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and chariot drivers. So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at dawn the sea returned to its normal depth. As the Egyptians fled before it, the LORD tossed the Egyptians into the sea. The waters returned and covered the chariots and the chariot drivers, the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea; not one of them remained. But the Israelites walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore NEW TESTAMENT READING ACTS Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 3 PSALM 133 BEHOLD how good and joyful a thing it is : brethren to dwell to gether in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down unto the beard : even unto Aaron s beard, and went down to the skirts of his clothing. Like as the dew of Hermon : which fell up on the hill of Sion. For there the Lord promised his blessing : and life for ever more. GLORIA GOSPEL JOHN When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe. A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe. Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name. POST COMMUNION Lord God our Father, through our Saviour Jesus Christ you have assured your children of eternal life and in baptism have made us one with him: deliver us from the death of sin and raise us to new life in your love, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 Prayers & Parish Notices for all three churches THE GENERAL DATA [PROTECTION REGULATION ( GDPR ) We need your help to carry out a Data Audit for the Parish of Harpenden WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT? Data Protection in the UK is changing in May The new law will give us all more rights over how information about us is stored and used by all sorts of organisations including churches. In particular, organisations have to tell people what they are doing with the information they are storing and using. HOW DOES IT APPLY TO THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND? In practice, most church groups will be storing and using some personal information. So, if you run a group or have a role in the Parish which involves holding information about people (such as their name, address, phone number, address, age or family details), then this DOES apply to you. Databases, spreadsheets, lists and paper documents are ALL included. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Right now, what we need to do is to carry out a Data Audit basically, to build a comprehensive picture of who is holding what data. If you lead a group and receive a Parish Data Audit Form, please complete it as soon as possible, and return it to the Parish Office, or one of us, by Friday 27 April. If you don t receive a form, but you are holding information about people in the Parish, then please ask for one. PARISH WARDENS are elected annually at the APCM. There is a vacancy this year as Michelle McCulloch steps down. Tony Gilbert is willing to stand again. 5 CALLING ALL SINGERS AND MUSICIANS! To celebrate Eastertide Our Lady of Lourdes Choir and Band are planning a pop-up / flash mob performance of the Hallelujah Chorus (from Handel s Messiah) on Church Green on Sunday 22 April at around 12.45pm. We expect to be finished by 1pm, unless we perform an encore! We are inviting any interested musicians (strings, woodwind, brass Grade 4+) and singers to join us. We will be rehearsing at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rothamsted Avenue on Sunday 25 March at 3pm and Sunday 15 April at 3pm. Rehearsals will be no more than an hour. 7 St Nicholas Church Notices OUR 800 TH YEAR OF WORSHIPPING ON THIS SITE. The first church built on this site was started in 1217 and as best we can account for worship started in We will be celebrating this anniversary this year. If you have any suggestions how we might do so, please contact the Rector or one of the wardens. Also ALL GROUPS are asked to consider how they might celebrate our anniversary at one of their meetings/events this year. ANNUAL DISTRICT CHURCH MEETING (ADCM) will be held on Sunday, 15 April. Everyone welcome. There will be an 8am service and ONE service at followed by coffee, then the meeting in church, then a church lunch in the hall. We will be discussing the Sound and Light Modernisation and Upgrade project. We need volunteers please to help with the lunch. CONGRATULATIONS to Margaret Randall who celebrates her 90 th birthday this week. ALL CHURCH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS All children intending to apply to St George's and St Nicholas Schools need to complete a Record Of Attendance in order to assist with the preparation of clergy references. The Record of Attendance needs to be completed for the duration of the following periods prior to date of application: 2 years for St George's and 1 year for St Nicholas. Please see the schools website for further details of the schools' admissions criteria including both the relevant period of attendance and frequency of attendance required by both St George's and St Nicholas schools.
