Should we have overlooked welcoming you personally, please make yourself known to a churchwarden, or to a sidesman. You may wish to note that hymn verses marked with an asterisk are omitted, unless indicated on the front page alongside the hymn number. If you require a gluten-free altar bread, please speak to the priest before the service. We also have a Junior Church that meets in the adjoining hall. Please ask a churchwarden for more information. Toilets (including accessible facilities) are available in the church hall. You are invited to join us for a cup of coffee or tea in the church hall after the 10 o clock service. Not everyone is able to commit to being present every time so each session will be a one off study looking at the following five different topics:- About the Gospels, What are Parables?, Celtic Christianity, Anglicanism the Middle way, The Art of Holy Week. Full details have been sent to those who have expressed interest. Any further enquiries to Howard, please, Copies of The Bulletin. 3 Collect COLLECT AND READINGS FOR THE SUNDAY NEXT BEFORE LENT Almighty Father, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered death upon the cross: give us grace to perceive his glory, that we may be strengthened to suffer with him and be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. THE FIRST READING IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF EXODUS When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tables of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. And when Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. And afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face; but whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and when he came out, and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, the people of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses face shone; and Moses would put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him. 4 THE EPISTLE IS WRITTEN IN THE SECOND LETTER OF PAUL TO THE CORINTHIANS Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not see the end of the fading splendour. But their minds were hardened; for to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their minds; but when a man turns to the Lord the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practise cunning or to tamper with God s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man s conscience in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD ALL: THANKS BE TO GOD HEAR THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE ALL: GLORY BE TO THEE, O LORD Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white. And behold, two men talked with him, Moses and Eli jah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, and when they wakened they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli jah - not knowing what he said. As he said this, a cloud came and overshadowed them;

5 and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him! And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silence and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen. On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him. And behold, a man from the crowd cried, Teacher, I beg you to look upon my son, for he is my only child; and behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out; it convulses him till he foams, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him. And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not. Jesus answered, O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here. While he was coming, the demon tore him and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. And all were astonished at the majesty of God. 6 Shrove Tuesday March 5 th - 12 noon till 2 p.m Paul and Sandra s Pancake Party is now at their new address, 48 The Mall, Binstead. Join us for pancakes and a glass of wine/fruit juice - and there is also a Bring and Buy stall. Please sign the list at the back of the church if you wish to come. Hymnathon Please put March 9 th in your diary. As this is a first for the Island, perhaps you could invite family, friends, neighbours etc, to come and join in with us. Andrew is going to be playing the organ for 18 hours, playing 513 hymns from our New English Hymnal. Amazing!!! Please come and support him. This is to raise money for a Youth Community Choir which All Saints is running with local primary schools. If you have friends who sing in choirs on the Island, encourage them to come and listen or sing with Andrew in support of choirs of the future. If you would like to make a donation in support of Andrew s marathon, please use the yellow envelope in the pew marked clearly Hymnathon and complete your details if you qualify to gift aid your donation. Children s Paper Plane Competition There will also be a paper plane competition from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the same day. Pay 50p a go (and have as many goes as you like). Fly your own design the longest flights win prizes: First prize Blue Tooth paper plane; 2 nd prize 20; 3 rd prize 10. Refreshments are available in the hall during the day. Helpers Helpers required on Saturday 9 th March, please volunteer to be a friendly presence between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as the children will be arriving to fly their paper planes. Help needed to take names, hand out paper and measure the distance flown. Please can you give an hour to welcome the children and their families? List at the back of the church for times that you may be available. Don t forget Andrew will be playing all day so there will be hot drinks and cakes. Tell everyone you meet and make it a day to remember. The next Monday Mob Meeting will be held on 11 th March at 9 a.m. As we are unable to use the Hall, alternative arrangements will be made for teas, coffees etc. Don t work too hard - Noreen

7 Revision of the Church Electoral Roll The church Electoral Roll is revised annually, and every six years completely renewed is a sexennial year, and Sunday 17 th March is the final day for names to be entered onto the Roll. What is the Electoral Roll? It is your parish church s register of electors. In the same way that being on the civic Electoral Roll allows you to vote in parliamentary and local elections and referenda, joining the Church Electoral Roll means that you can vote on Church matters, attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM), and stand for election to the PCC. Do I have to join? You can of course be a full and active member of All Saints Church without joining the Roll. Being on the Electoral Roll does not entail signing up to any additional commitments. However, it does help the Church show its strength: representation on the governing bodies of the church depends on the number on the Electoral Roll. Joining the Roll is compulsory if you wish to stand for election to the PCC or other synodical council (such as the Deanery, Diocesan or General Synod), or attend the APCM and participate in votes. If you live outside the Parish and want to come onto the Electoral Roll, you have to have been worshipping at All Saints' for a minimum period of six months. Your Electoral Roll Officer at All Saints is Roi Milburn, from whom application forms are available, and to whom they should be returned (by Sunday 17 th March). Copies of the revised Roll will be with the ERO, PCC Secretary and Office Administrator between 24 th March and 6 th April should you wish to check your entry for accuracy. No new entries may be made before 11 th April.
