Happy Feast day of St. Jude to you all! God has blessed us with the relic of St. Jude. It makes this year s feast celebration different from the previous years. The feast of St. Jude is a time for us all to spiritually renew ourselves and transform our mind to conform ourselves with the will of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May I request each and every one of you to prepare yourselves for a spiritual renewal and mental transformation during this feast time. It is by keeping the commandments of our Lord, we are blessed with such a state of life, conforming our wills to the will of God, a union with Him. John 14:23 reminds us this truth Those who love me keep my commandments and we stay in them. In preparing for our spiritual and mental renewal, let me point out to a family in the scriptures that has always fascinated me. In 2 Maccabees Chapter 7, the scripture describes the story of a mother and her seven children, each of whom gave up their life to be a witness for God. This passage describes how the mother and all her children were brave and faithful enough to die to keep the commandment of our Lord. I have always been inspired by what each of them said, to the king, at the moment of their death. The mother here needs a special mention, she watched each one of her child die before her and yet never wavered in keeping the commandments of the Lord, instead she motivated her children with words of faith. I cannot fathom how deep her faith was!! Her words and deeds are a great signs of a spiritually renewed and mentally transformed person. I encourage each and every one to read this passage so that we can all understand the mystery of faith, hope and love required for true renewal and transformation. Let this family be an example for all our families and inspire us to sow the seeds of deep rooted faith in our children. Lastly during this month, let us continue to remember our Blessed Mother who constantly teaches us about Christian life. Let us remember to pray the Most Holy Rosary every day without fail and follow the example of our beloved mother. Once again wishing you all a very Happy Feast Day of St. Jude and a Blessed Rosary Month. The liturgical feast of our Lady or Rosary celebrated every year on October 7th was introduced by Pope St.Pius V in the year 1571 to commemorate the victory of the papal states in the Battle of Lepanto. Pope Leo XIII later established the month of October as the month of the Rosary. The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I) was the first catholic religious congregation for men that was founded in India. It was also the first congregation in the Syro Malabar rite. Their original name was Congregation of the Servants of Mary Immaculate of Mount Carmel, which was changed to the Third Order of Discalced Carmelites (T.O.C.D) in 1860 and finally changed to its present name in 1958.

JUDE S RELIC On Sunday September 29, 2013 the entire community gathered together as one to respectfully welcome St. Jude s relic into our community. We are all truly blessed to receive our patron saint s relic from St. Michael s Church in New Jersey, Diocese of Patterson. The solemn reception started with a procession at 3:00pm at St. Andrew s Lutheran Church. Tijochan led the procession holding St. Jude s relic in his hands through rows of adults adorning the muthukuda, kids dressed in white with candles in their hands and chants of hymns to St. Jude led by our choir. After the procession, novena to Saint Jude was offered seeking St. Jude powerful intercession and blessings on our community. This was followed by the Holy Qurbana during which time Achan helped us realize how blessed we are by God Almighty that we have a relic of a saint who had the great fortune to spend time with Jesus as his Apostle. St. Jude watch over our community always. UPCOMING CAR RAFFLE SALES TRIP As you know, the raffle team has started visiting other churches for car raffle ticket sales as part of our fundraising efforts. The team has requested every one to lend your participation towards this effort and help with going to at least one church for ticket sales. Sunny Puthenpurayil on September 15. Fr. Sunny is the Director of Computerization program and serves in the Changanassery Diocese. The inauguration ceremony began with a special prayer service by Rev Fr. Andrews Mekkattukunnel. Fr. Andrews is a professor at Kottayam seminary and author of many books related to Syro Malabar Qurbana and traditions. Fr. Andrews also taught the kids the song Kandisa Alaha, the most famous song from the ancient Syro-Malabar Qurbana. This was followed by a prayer song led by the kids ministry team. Our CCD Director Tomy Paul, on behalf of the entire Sunday school team, welcomed everyone to the inauguration ceremony. After this, Fr. Sunny delivered the inauguration speech during which he emphasized on the importance of catechism. He also reminded parents that they are the first catechists to their children. Fr. Andrews, also gave a short message reminding us that through Catechism we are all called to become Jesus friends. A candle lighting ceremony followed symbolizing the beginning of the academic year. Fr. Tijo Mullakkara, the Mission Director, along with other priests led the special blessing prayer and offered all the catechism teachers and students to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. Regular classes started on the same day after the inauguration ceremony. SAINTS CORNER FOR KIDS Saint Maria Goretti was born in Corinaldo, Ancona, Italy, on October Maria was the third of seven children and was from a very poor family. Even though they were poor, they shared a deep love for Jesus. Maria's father died when she was only nine. In 1902, one day when little Maria was watching over her baby sister and her mother and all other siblings were away on field, Alessandro their neighbor came to their home. Maria was only twelve years old then. Alessandro had been long compelling Maria to do sin with him and Maria has been avoiding him. This time when he came, he threatened Maria with death if she did not agree to his wishes. However, little Maria knew better and she desperately fought with him with all her strength. Realizing that Maria was not going to agree to his wishes, Alessandro first started choking her. Maria still did submit to his wishes and was determined that she would rather die than commit a sin. Alessandro became so mad with rage, that he attacked and stabbed her with a knife multiple times and left wounded to bleed. When her mother returned and saw her bleeding with stab wounds all over her, they rushed her to a nearest hospital. But doctors could not rescue her and she died the next day. As she lay in the hospital, she forgave Alessandro before she died. Alessandro was however captured and sentenced to prison for thirty years. He was unrepentant until one day, he had a dream that he was in a garden. Maria was there and she gave him flowers. When he woke up, he was a changed man repenting of his crime and living a reformed life. When he was released after 27 years he went directly to Maria's mother to beg her forgiveness, which she gave saying "If my daughter can forgive you who am I to withhold forgiveness". When Maria was declared a saint in 1950, Alessandro was there in the St. Peter's crowd to celebrate her canonization. She was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950 for her purity as a model for youth. She is called a martyr today because she fought against Alessandro s sinful attempts. However, the most important aspect of her story is her forgiveness of her attacker and her concern for her enemy extending even beyond death. He was hit by a vehicle while on a walk with his parish priest in Arakuzha, Kottayam. He is survived by his wife, two children Leo and his brother (UK). Soniya Breeze lost her father Kalapurayil Mathai John, aged 65 on 9/15 due to a cardiac stroke. He is survived by his wife Pennamma, son Roice and daughters - Reena, Reeja and Soniya Babu Parapurath lost his father Mr. Francis Parapurath, aged 86 on 9/29 at Ernakulum. St. Jude family expresses our deep sorrow and heartfelt prayers to the families of Leo, Sonia, Babu and remains united through prayers and love with them in during this moment of grief.
