How blessed are we to receive the Most Holy Body and Most precious Blood of our Savior Christ Jesus! The Medicine of Eternity! (John 6:51). But often I have felt that many of us who receive Holy Communion on Sundays are doing it as a routine. It seems that our reception does not have any divine influence in our lives. If we ask ourselves whether we have become any better; most of us would answer no. Have you wonder why this may be so?? One needs to be purified completely before the Most Holy Communion. It is important to note what St. John Vianney said about it, Jesus even washed the feet of His disciples before He gave them His precious Body and Blood. The washing of the feet is symbol of washing away of our sins. It is never recommended that we receive communion without going to confession as it is in confession that He washes away our sins as promised in Isaiah (Isaiah 1:18). When Peter did not permit Jesus to wash his feet; Jesus said to him: If I don t wash you, you longer be my disciple (John 13:9). Without permitting Jesus to wash ourselves through the Sacrament of Penance many people receive communion and so they are not able to build up any relation with Christ and the reception of the Most Precious Body and Blood becomes in vain. Some are not ready to give up the sins committed regularly. However I have, often heard them quote that they don t intend to hurt Jesus. It is indeed an abomination before God. It is the same attitude of Judas Iscariot who betrayed Christ. He did not have any intention to kill Jesus but at the same time he fell for the temptation of 30 pieces of silver (bad habit of taking worldly pleasures more important than God or a sincere relationship with Him (I John 2:15). Accordingly, Judas reception of the Most Holy Communion paved the way for Satan to enter into his heart instead of Christ Jesus. St. Paul reminds us of this danger (I1 Corinthians 11: 27ff). Finally, it is true that most of us are afraid of committing the gravest sins like killing others or committing adultery etc., but we do kill others by our words and by our hatred (1 John 2:10-11; 3:15) and commit adultery by lust (Mathew 5:28). Even when we avoid these sins we still keep on committing the venial sins and thinks that it is ok to commit venial (small sins). It is true that venial sins does not make us unworthy to receive the Most Holy Sacrament, those little sins takes away unimaginable amount of grace from us. I encourage all of us to make an effort to avoid venial sins and keep yourselves pure and holy in words and deeds and then receive the Most Holy Sacrament. ALPHONSA S FEAST DAY CELEBRATIONS St. Alphonsa Ward celebrated the feast of their Patron Saint on Sunday July 26. The Church was decorated in white and gold color theme (to represent purity and perfection as apparent from St Alphonsa's life on earth) and ward members wore traditional attire in white and gold to match the decor. The proceedings started with Kazhchaveppu where all the families in the ward walked in a procession to present their offerings to God. Novena to St. Alphonsa was recited after Mass and nercha prepared by ward members were distributed to the community followed by refreshments. Celebrations like this are a great way to honor our Saints and a wonderful opportunity for us to learn more about them and to try and imitate their goodness and values in our own life. They also help our kids to learn and know more about saints from our home country as they continue to grow in our culture and tradition.

Through our Sunday School Festival we intend to provide our children a platform to develop and demonstrate God s given talents in a Christian environment.

J u d e S y r o - M a l a b a r C h u r c h O f N o r t h e r n V i r g i n i a Page 5 SUNDAY SCHOOL FESTIVAL 2015 This year's Sunday School Festival was held on June 21, 28 and July 12. Through our Sunday School Festival we intend to provide our children a platform to develop and demonstrate God s given talents in a Christian environment. The competitions held this year were Bible Jeopardy, Bible Verses, Fancy Dress, Public Speaking, Music, Essay Writing, Prayer and Bible Story Telling. We had participation from 68 children this year. What made this years festival different from previous years was that this time the festival was coordinated by our Sunday School PTA members. A special thanks to all the judges and congratulations to all the participants. ST. JUDE SEVENS TOURNAMENT In preparation for the much anticipated St. Jude Soccer Tournament, the four teams came together on Sunday to decide the order at which the teams would play at this upcoming and exciting tournament. The decision was arrived at by picking of lots by our own TijoAchan. Accordingly here is the order at which the game will be played at the semi finals. Team A: Villadi v. Herndon Heroes Team B: All Ryders v. Ashlee Kidilans Winners of Team A and Team B will compete for the much prestigious St. Jude Soccer Trophy. We wish all the teams the very best and look forward to an exciting day. (Please find more information regarding soccer tournament on page 6)

JUDE SEVENS 2015 SAINTS CORNER - St. John Vianney St. John Mary Vianney was ordained a priest in Three years later he was made parish priest of Ars, a remote French hamlet, where his reputation as a confessor and director of souls made him known throughout the Christian world. Accustomed to the most severe austerities, beleaguered by swarms of penitents, and besieged by the devil, this great mystic manifested a imperturbable patience. He was a wonderworker loved by the crowds, but he retained a childlike simplicity, and he remains to this day the living image of the priest after the heart of Christ. He heard confessions of people from all over the world for the sixteen hours each day. His life was filled with works of charity and love. It is recorded that even the staunchest of sinners were converted at his mere word. The same Lord who forgave the thief who repented at the cross is waiting for us in the confessional. The world called Pope John Paul II as John Paul the great. Even when people considered him as a saint, he used to without fail go for confession at least once a week. If such a holy person like Pope John Paul the great went for confessions once a week, how much more should we go for confessions perhaps every day!! W H Y C O N F E S S I O N? Through the sacrament of baptism God removes our original sins and makes us His children. The Spirit of God imprints in our hearts an indelible mark and the Holy Spirit never leaves our soul. At the same time, when we act against the will of God, the Holy Spirit in us becomes inactive and thus the relationship between God and an individual is broken. Only a holy heart can establish and continue to remain in the deep relationship with God. Because of the original sin every human being has a tendency to commit sin. It s not only the disobedience of the commandments of God that is sin but also the actions and thoughts against the will of God. Each one of us who have committed sins is given through this sacrament of penance an opportunity to repair our relationship with God. Jesus Christ gave His church the authority to absolve the sins (John 20:23). Though this sacrament God gives us an internal healing also. The fear, despair, anxieties, guilt and such negatives wounds are healed in this sacrament if one receives it with true repentance S T O P P R E S S!!! For the last 500 years Protestant church was against confession. Prominent American pastors Joel Osteen and Rick Warren, respectively, as well as Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, were among the Protestant delegation that met with Pope Francis on July 9, Pastor Warren, founder of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, spoke with members of the international press in St. Peter s Square, saying, Protestants, as a people, have a long history of heresy. The time for reconciliation is now in order to ensure a full and dogmatic transition into the folds of the Church. Moments before meeting with reporters, the entire Protestant delegation, for the first time ever, entered the confessional to take part, individually, in the Sacrament of Penance. It s important that we participate in these sacred rituals before asking our congregation to do the same, Even though they could not receive the absolution; Pastor Osteen said, that his time in confession was an immensely moving experience.
