There are three things I would like to share with you this month. With the great support of our dear Saint Jude family, God blessed 4life movement so much. There was a huge impact on the whole diocese of Chicago by conducting this conference at Saint Judes. I received calls or s from so many around the country thanking us and many of them have already decided to start center for life in their own respective parishes. We need to be pioneers and example in this field. Our dear Lord blessed us with a great idea of Center for Life. 1. Saint Judes Center for Life: what is it and what is its mission? Jesus said I have come so that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10,10). Saint Judes Center for life is a support system to protect and cherish life. There are so many of us going through different kinds of struggles, when we lose our job or when are lonely and seeking for some consolation or when someone so close to us passes away, or when we are preparing to give birth to a child or after giving birth to a child, or when we or our children are sick or at the hospital or when we are aged and there is nothing for us to do to engage our lives in fruitful contribution to the Church etc. Saint Judes Center for life is a support system which would address these struggles and effectively engage with those who really need some assistance and help, solely depending upon our Savior Jesus Christ. We become the hands, tongues, legs and words of Jesus, the LIFE. There would be an orientation for those who volunteer for the same. The Core team will be guiding us in effectively implementing Saint Judes Center for Life which is the fruit of 4life conference. This way we become men and women for God and His people. Seeing our example, I hope many in our diocese would follow this model. 2. Annual retreat: On February 21 st, 22 nd and 23 rd is an occasion for us to come together and contemplate the word of God. Father Joshy VC is an experienced retreat preacher, zealous and grace filled priest, who has been doing the retreat in New Jersey for so long. His retreat will surely be a blessing for us. On Friday the retreat begins at 7.30pm at Corpus Christi; on 22 nd and 23 rd the retreat takes place at Stone Middle School, Centreville. 3. Family Night takes place on March 1 st at Lunsford middle school. It s a celebration of our fellowship and friendship as Saint Jude family. Let us stay one and celebrate our oneness in Christ. Some of you do, I know. But so many people say to me: But how can we? As the tax collector does, it is clear: humbly, before God. Each one, with humility, allowing themselves to be gazed upon by the Lord and imploring his goodness, that he may visit us. But in the family how is this done? After all, prayer seems to be something personal, and besides there is never a good time, a moment of peace Yes, all that is true enough, but it is also a matter of humility, of realizing that we need God, like the tax collector! And all families, we need God: all of us! We need his help, his strength, his blessing, his mercy, his forgiveness. And we need simplicity to pray as a family: simplicity is necessary! Praying the Our Father together, around the table, is not something extraordinary: it s easy. And praying the Rosary together, as a family, is very beautiful and a source of great strength! And also praying for one another! The husband for his wife, the wife for her husband, both together for their children, the children for their grandparents.praying for each other. This is what it means to pray in the family and it is what makes the family strong: prayer. Kids Corner Please provide your completed entry to any of the bulletin team members. The Holy Father has appointed the first Bishop of the diocese in the person of Bishop Bosco Puthur. The Holy Father has also appointed Bishop Bosco Puthur to be the Apostolic Visitor for the Syro-Malabar faithful residing in New Zealand. Along with the appointment of Mar Bosco Puthur as the new bishop of Melbourn Fr. Francis Kolenchery is appointed as the first Vicar General of the News Syro-Malabar diocese by the Major Archbishop Cardinal Alencherry. New Vicar Generals and Procurators for Chicago Syro-Malabar Diocese Chicago St. Thomas Syro-Malabar diocese Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiyathu has appointed the below priests for different positions starting February 8, Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine Palakaparambil - Proto synchellus Rev. Fr. Thomas Muzhuvanal - Synchellus, Knanaya Region Director Rev. Fr. Paul Challisseri - Finance Officer Rev. Fr. Vinod Madathiparambil - Youth Apostolate Director VIVO 14 National 4 Life program VIVO 14 was conducted by Syro- Malabar and Malankara diocese from January 17 through 22. St. Jude Syro-Malabar church had the privilege to host the two day conference as part of VIVO 14. The first Bishop of diocese of Australia Mar Bosco Puthur gave the main speech. How can we live our life to the fullest the way Christ wants us to was the main topic of the conference. Our life is blessed when we live for God and for others. There were also several other classes that explained the importance and purity of human life. There were also workshops on topics like catholic parenting, manhood, womanhood and natural family planning. Around 300 followers attended the two day conference conducted in our St. Jude Syro-Malabar Catholic church. We celebrated January 20 as the day of Eucharistic Adoration followed by national vigil for life on 21st. Many followers joined for the march for life in Washington DC on 22nd after the Holy Mass in St Mary s Syro-Malankara church. St. Sebastian Feast day celebrations St. Sebastian s feast day was celebrated by the Syro Malabar community members on January 26th with the St. Sebastian ward members coordinating all the feast day celebrations. Saint Sebastian was an early Christian and martyr and was killed during the Roman emperor Diocletian s persecution of Christians. Saint Sebastian was venerated at Milan as early as the time of St. Ambrose and was buried on the Appian Way. He is the patron saint of archers, athletes, and soldiers. He is also appealed to for protection against plagues.

They represent the four weeks of our preparation before the coming of our Lord. Each week represents one thousand years, so in total four thousand years from the time of Adam and Eve until the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. 2. The position of the 'Qanke' (Sanctuary) in the Syro Malabar church is at the eastern end of the church which itself is built in the east-west direction. The reason for this arrangement is that rays of the rising sun (Jesus Christ is the real rising sun) would fall on the sanctuary. Contributed by Ashlynn Marie Cherian St. Mathew s Gospel talks about St. Simon or Simeon who is described as one of our Lord s brethren or kinsmen. His father was Cleophas, St.Josphe s brother, and his mother, according to some writers, was our Lady s sister. Based on this, Simon would have been our Lord s first cousin and would have been approximately 8 years older than Jesus. St. Simeon was a man of great wisdom and courage. After his blood brother the Apostle James was beheaded by Herod, the other Apostles voted and agreed to appoint St. Simon as the successor to lead the church in Jerusalem. In the year 66, civil war started in Israel as the Jews began a violent struggle to free themselves from Roman Rule. Meanwhile, the Christians in Jerusalem apparently received a divine warning and were able to flee the violence to the city of Pella across the Jordan River. Due to this quick thinking and action taken, St. Simon was able to avoid capture and execution. Eventually after a long search by the leader Trajan, St. Simeon was located and captured. He was charged with being a descendant of David and also being a Christian. The order of Trajan declared that all descendants from the race of David be destroyed. These declarations eventually lead to the downfall of St. Simeon. After his capture, he was turned over to the Roman governor Atticus. He was convicted by Atticus and sentenced to death. St. Simon suffered painful sessions of torture, and was eventually crucified by the Romans. St. Simon went through an extremely painful death with such dignity that even Atticus was impressed with his dignity. The Feast of St. Simon is celebrated on February 18. Intercede with God for me that He bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly - (make your request here) - and that I may praise God with you and all the saints forever.
