3 MINISTRIES AT THE CATHEDRAL OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY Each month, we will be highlighting an area of ministry or ministries within our parish, and the people and families who volunteer in them. This month, we are featuring the Usher Ministry, under the leadership of Mr. Mike Munoz, and the American Heritage Girls, under the leadership of Ms. Rose Fierro. Jesus of Mercy Adoration Chapel The Blessed Sacrament is exposed 24 hours a day in the Jesus of Mercy Adoration Chapel located on the south side of the Church Sanctuary. Adorers are scheduled in one-hour blocks so that someone is always present with our Lord in the Chapel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is a beautiful time of personal prayer and deepening our relationship with Jesus through the Most Blessed Sacrament. For more information or to arrange for your own scheduled one-hour appointment with our Lord, please call Lucy Munoz or Irene Banegas The Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference is making a comeback this year on 8-11 November. On Sunday, 12 November, at the Plaza de Las Cruces, a Mariachi Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am with Rev. Alex Ureña presiding. It will be followed by a Park Festival, a Mariachi Sunday, complete with food and other vendors around the Plaza immediately following the Mass. Look for announcements and a flyer next week as well. Religious Education Corner Let's pray the Rosary together! October is the month of the Rosary and families are invited to join in praying and singing a bilingual Rosary in Finley Hall at 6:45pm each Wednesday of October. We will unite in this powerful prayer for our families and for families throughout the world. And, of course, join us for refreshments afterwards! Confirmation Families are encouraged to Patti so that you may have on-line access to the "Chosen" program your teens are viewing during class. View them as a family or on your own. 4 Annual Pilgrimage to Mount Cristo Rey Sunday, 29 October 2017, is the date of the annual Mount Cristo Rey pilgrimage. All are welcome to walk up and down the mountain from sunrise to sunset. A variety of food and drink and religious items will be for sale at the bottom of the mountain. The Stations of the Cross Procession leading up the mountain begins around 10 a.m. Mass begins about noon on the top of the mountain. Be advised to arrive early to find parking, to bring water and snacks, and to wear sun screen, sturdy walking shoes, layers of clothes, and a hat. To get to Mount Cristo Rey, exit I-10 at Sunland Park Drive; head west. Stay on Sunland Park Drive past Sunland Park Casino/ Racetrack and Western Playland Amusement Park. At McNutt Road turn left; continue east on McNutt Road to off and on-site parking La Peregrinación Anual a la Montaña de Cristo Rey El peregrinaje a la Montaña de Cristo Rey se llevará a cabo el domingo 29 de octubre del 2017 en Sunland Park, NM. Annual Border Mass The 2017 Border Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 4 November, at 10:00 am, at the Rio Grande Canal in Chihuahuita in El Paso. To get there, take the Downtown exit off of I-10 in El Paso. Turn right onto Santa Fe and continue south. Turn right onto either Montestruc Court or Calleros Court and find parking before crossing the railroad tracks at the end of Calleros. Two parking lots are there; cost is $4.00 for the day. Be advised to wear sun screen and walking shoes, and to bring water, a hat, and a chair. All are welcome to attend! The Marriage Enrichment Ministry will be hosting a Marriage Enrichment weekend at the Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary on November 3 rd and 4th, 2017 at 1240 E. Espina Street in Las Cruces, NM. The weekend is based on parish-based programs that nourish commitment, develop couple leadership, and provide mutual support. The weekend will begin on Friday November 3 at 7 p.m. then continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. A $40.00 per couple donation is requested with meals and snacks included. 5 SAINT ANTHONY MARY CLARET ( ) Patron of Catholic press Feast Day October 24 Born in Sallent, Spain, the son of a weaver, the fifth of the eleven children of Juan and Josefa Claret. His father was a woolen manufacturer. As a child, he enjoyed pilgrimages to the nearby Shrine of Our Lady of Fussimanya. He received an elementary education in his native village, and at the age of twelve became a weaver. St. Anthony was ordained a priest in After five years, he began to give missions and retreats all over Catalonia. Seeing their success and the people s need for them, he founded (in 1849) the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Claretians) to continue this work on a wider scale. In that same year, he was consecrated Bishop of Santiago de Cuba. Finding the diocese in a deplorable spiritual condition, he quickly initiated vigorous reform measures, one of which was the establishment of the Teaching Sisters of Mary Immaculate. In 1857, he was recalled to Spain and made the chaplain of Queen Isabella II. This position made it possible to continue his mission work by preaching and publishing. He established a museum, library, schools, and a laboratory, also helping to revive the Catalan language. He spread devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and after the revolution of 1868 ended his life in exile with the Queen in He was canonized in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. The Book of the Names of the Dead will be available in the church near the baptismal font in which the faithful could inscribe the names of their beloved dead who would be remembered in prayer during this month.
