St. Basil is celebrated on Thanks to our UOL Chapter members and parishioners for preparing and serving the delicious Holy Supper. 130 people participated in the annual Sviata Vechera (Holy Supper) on Christmas Eve, Friday, January 6 th. It was beautiful hearing young and old sing carols. A very special thank you goes out to Mrs. Tamara Host, who served as chairperson and did a tremendous amount of work preparing for the dinner. This year was the 33 rd year that the U.O.L. sponsored Sviat Vechir. On Sunday, January 29th, our annual parish meeting will take place following the Divine Liturgy. An important part of that meeting is the election of parishioners to the Board of Trustees, as well as the election of auditors and church elders. Plan to attend and share your ideas on how we can make our parish grow stronger. 3 In the past, following the Christmas holy days, we normally list the names of those parishioners who helped the clergy to make sure that all services were conducted with dignity and devotion. In attempting to do the same this year, it became obvious that there were so many people to thank that we did not want to omit anyone. Therefore, on behalf of the clergy, please accept our profound gratitude to all who assisted. Truly, it was a beautiful celebration, not only for our youth and adult membership, but for all who visited us and listened to the Liturgy on the radio and internet. We received notice from people in Canada, various states, Ukraine, Spain and Thailand who listened to the Liturgy. The beauty of our services, enhanced by the choir and the decorations in the church, is truly uplifting and adds to the glory of the celebration of Christ s Birth. May God bless you all for your love and dedication to His Holy Church and be assured always of our love and appreciation. Attention Choir Members: Our parish choirs are requested to sing at both Wednesday evening s Compline service at 6:00 p.m. and the Theophany Liturgy on Thursday, January 19 th at 9:00 a.m. Come celebrate the Feast of Theophany Baptism of Christ on Thursday, January 19, The Divine Liturgy and Great Blessing of Water will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a brunch in the parish center. A free will offering will be accepted to benefit the Parish Charity Projects. Our most sincere condolences and prayers are offered to Mrs. Luba Moysaenko, Mrs. Marta Moysaenko and sons, and all family members of Dr. Gleb Moysaenko on the death of their husband, father, son and brother on Sunday, January 8 th, at the age of 61. Funeral services were conducted from our church on Thursday. Dr. Moysaenko was a regular communicant in our parish, accepting Our Lord until the last days before his passing. His loss is felt not only by his family and the clergy and faithful of our parish but by countless patients who turned to him for their medical needs and care. May Our Loving Lord accept the soul of this devout servant into His Heavenly Kingdom. Memory Eternal! Vichnaya Pamyat! Attention U.O.L. Members Our chapter is holding a Christmas Brunch for all members and anyone interested on Sunday, January 22 nd, following the first Liturgy, at Slyman s on Rockside and Rt. 21. For reservations and more information, contact chapter president, Pani Matka Mary Anne. Last Sunday, following the Liturgy, we truly enjoyed the singing and reading by the youth of our Church. We sincerely thank Pani Matka Anna, Mrs. Oksana Logvynyuk and Mrs. Natalia Mahlay for working with the children to prepare the program. Thanks also to the parents for bringing their children to rehearsal and to all children who participated with such joy and enthusiasm. Please remember that, because of the joy of the Nativity, there is NO kneeling in church from January 7 th until Epiphany, January 19 th, following the Liturgy. 3

4 Please remember our sick and elderly parishioners in your prayers. Also, the clergy request that they be notified when parishioners are admitted to and/or discharged from the hospital and transferred to a nursing home and if a home visit is desired. On Thursday, following the Liturgy, everyone is welcome to take home the poinsettias that are at the front of the Iconostas. We also encourage our faithful to take the flowers to a sick friend or shut-in. Those receiving the flowers do not have to be parishioners. Do this Christmas deed in honor of the New-Born Christ Child. January 22 nd, marks the sad anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, in which the Supreme Court decided that abortion would be legal in the United States. Although it is the law of the land, the Supreme Court decision does not change the centuries-old teachings of our Holy Orthodox Church and other Christian churches. We firmly believe that abortion is the killing of an innocent child. Let us pray that God will enlighten his people to understand that life begins at conception. Let us also support the organizations that work to assist women in difficult situations with unexpected pregnancy. One such Orthodox organization is ZOE for Life. Donations to this cause can be made to ZOE for Life. For more information, you may phone * * * * * * January 13 th marked the 8 th anniversary of the death of the great benefactor to our parish, Mykola (Nick) Suprunenko. He left our parish over $500,000., for which we are eternally grateful. May his memory be eternal! There will be light refreshments and a presentation by volunteers assisting clients at ZOE House. For more information, call (440) The All Saints Camp Boosters, which are sold annually to help raise funds for camp maintenance, are now on sale. They cost $25.00 each and make great Christmas gifts. Zorya Ukrainian Female Vocal Ensemble will hold auditions on Sunday, February 5 th at 5:30 p.m. at the Kashtan Studio at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church Astrodome.
