On Monday, January 20 th, Mrs. Nadezhda Wojcik entered into eternity at the age of 91. Funeral services were conducted from our church on Thursday. Mrs. Wojcik suffered a massive stroke over 6 years ago, causing her to be paralyzed and unable to speak. Prior to her illness, she was a member of our Pyrohy Group. May Our Lord grant her rest in His Heavenly Kingdom, where suffering is no more but life everlasting. Memory eternal! Vichnaya Pamyat! 3 Please note that, after an enjoyable Christmas recess, our dedicated Pyrohy Group members will resume their labor of love for our parish this Thursday. Check the schedule for times. Also, as always, new volunteers are always needed. Please volunteer to assist in raising much-needed funds for our parish s financial stability. Attention All Saints Camp Boosters for 2014 are now available for purchase. Tickets for the entire year are $ All proceeds go to help maintain All Saints Camp. Booster tickets may be purchased from Mrs. Mary Ann Sklaryk. Please support this project and our camp. Please remember our sick and elderly parishioners in your prayers. Also, the clergy request that they be notified when parishioners are admitted to and/or discharged from the hospital and transferred to a nursing home and if a home visit is desired. Last week s Feast of Theophany Baptism of Jesus was spiritually uplifting. We are grateful to all our dedicated parishioners for contributing their time and energy to make our celebrations so beautiful and memorable for our youth. ~~ We thank Michael & Tanya Dobronos for once again covering the cost of the 900 lbs. of ice used to make the Ice Cross. ~~ We thank the men who constructed the 9-foot cross: Michael Dobronos, Hans Harasimchuk, Stephen Dobronos, Mikie Dobronos, Hans M. Harasimchuk, David Woznak, Chris Prosser, Michael Nakonachny When the men began constructing the cross, the sky was blue and the temperature was 37 F. When they finished, it was snowing and the temperature had dropped below freezing. You can see how the ice cross was erected by going to: YouTube ice cross. On Saturday, it was truly a joy to have the 150 students from our Taras Shevchenko School of Ukrainian Studies, together with their teachers, participate in the first Blessing of Water. They read the Scripture Readings, sang the responses and sang carols. Our clergy spoke to them about the meaning of this important Feast Day. This was followed by the blessing of our school building. ~~ We thank our parish choirs and director, Markian Komichak, for so beautifully singing the Great Compline service on Saturday evening as well as Sunday s Divine Liturgy. ~~ We thank the men and women who so graciously stayed in church after the Liturgy on Sunday to help dismantle the Christmas trees and decorations. ~~ We thank everyone who supported our Charity Committee s brunch following the Liturgy by donating and preparing the food, attending the brunch and contributing financially to this very worthy cause. Also if, because of bad weather, there is a necessity to cancel that date, a new date will be announced later and the clergy will continue blessing as scheduled. Please remember that the blessing of one s home is a religious service. Please rise and turn off the radio and/or television. It is also appropriate to have a lit candle on a table and to participate in the services by your presence in the room. 5 UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE USA CONSISTORY OFFICE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS PRESS RELEASE COUNCIL OF BISHOPS OF THE UOC OF THE USA The use of force, confrontation and violence will fail to resolve political issues! Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ! The events of the last several days and especially the last several months in the life of independent Ukraine have caused the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA to call upon the brothers and sisters in Ukraine to remain true to their aspirations to continue the development of true democratic society that has been under a severe threat. As you know from various media outlets, thousands of Ukrainian citizens have taken liberty to stand up for their beliefs by participating in protests-maydans throughout Ukraine and especially in the capital of Kyiv. As we have stated in the past: throughout Ukraine s history, millions of people have given their lives for freedom, dignity and human rights, in order to reclaim the right to peaceful demonstration as well as political and societal activity. We solemnly repeat - The voice of the street must be heard and respected and it cannot be silenced by the noise and uncertainties of those in leadership positions who choose to confuse and abuse by utilizing violence against the protestors. The use of force, confrontation and violence will fail to resolve political issues! The country's democratic future will depend on dialogue and the ability to listen to voice of Ukrainian citizens. It is essential that logic and calm prevail. No physical force will ever succeed in eliminating the free will and the voice of the citizenry! All the leaders and citizens of the Ukrainian nation must, as Saint Paul reminds us, clothe themselves in heartfelt mercy, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. (Col. 3:12) We direct the clergy and parishes of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA to serve a special Moleben service following Divine Liturgy on Sunday, January 26, 2014, beseeching the Lord to shed light on those in darkness, so that they may comprehend the seriousness of the present moment. The future of Ukraine may very well be determined by the actions and words of both those in governmental positions and those protesting peacefully on the streets out of love for their nation. A dialogue must be established between all concerned so as to avoid a degradation of the situation into chaos and economic ruin. Embracing the gift of freedom with you, our spiritual children here in the United States of America and with those in Ukraine and in the hope of moving forward, rather than backward in history, we beseech with awe and thanksgiving the Father of lights and every perfect gift, the Son of righteousness and the Spirit of truth to descend upon us all, embrace us, guiding and perfecting our every deed. +Antony, Metropolitan +Daniel, Bishop P.S.
