2 Epistle: (1 Timothy 4:9-15) Timothy my son, the saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and struggle, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, especially of those who believe. These are the things you must insist on and teach. Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhorting, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. Gospel: (Luke 19:1-10) At that time, Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax-collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Him, because He was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today. So he hurried down and was happy to welcome Him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner. Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much. Then Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Holy Mystery of Repentance (or Confession) is a marvelous manifestation of God s love and mercy towards us sinners. This is because the Lord does not reject us and does not turn away from us when we, having been washed of our sins in Baptism and endowed with divine grace, sin again through malice or weakness. Indeed, the Lord awaits our repentance. He forgives us if we repent and confess our sins.

4 Feast of Encounter of Our Lord will be celebrated this coming Thursday, February 2 nd. It is our tradition to bless candles on that day. The faithful are invited to bring their own candles for blessing or pick up those provided in the church. Please remember that this feast is a day of obligation. Plan to come to church for the Divine Liturgy. Just as a reminder here is the list of all the Days of obligation as presented in our Particular Law: 1. The faithful are obliged to celebrate all Sundays, the patronal feast of their parish, and the following twelve feasts which are: 1) The Nativity of the Mother of God; 2) The Exaltation of the Holy Cross; 3) The Presentation in the Temple of the Mother of God; 4) The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ; 5) The Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ; 6) The Encounter in the Temple of Our Lord Jesus Christ; 7) The Annunciation of the Mother of God; 8) The Entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem; 9) The Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ; 10) The Descent of the Holy Spirit; 11) The Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ; 12) The Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 2. Dormition Parish Social Project Our Parish Council voted that the 1 st quarter of 2017 coffee proceeds will go to the Christmas Candle project with money going to a hospice in Ivano-Frankivsk which houses orphans and provides the basic necessities, education and life skills to help them integrate into society. Lobsinger, OMI Memorial Bursary Program Underway The annual British Columbia and Yukon Bursary Program is known as the Bishop Thomas J. Lobsinger, OMI Memorial Bursary Program. The 2017 program is now receiving applications. Once again we are privileged to offer thirty bursaries of $ each to Catholic students across the Province of British Columbia. These bursaries are made available on a one-time-only basis to young practicing Catholic students who are in their second or subsequent year of post secondary education at a recognized institute of higher learning within the Province. 7 from January 1 st, 2017 until June 30 th, 2017 with the bursaries being awarded in the fall. Dormition Parish Stewardship: Sunday, Jan. 22 nd - $ (1 st Div. Lit.) & $185 (2 nd Div. Lit.); candles - $7.00. Basic Guidelines for Reception of Holy Communion: 1. You are a member of the Catholic Church (Orthodox faithful are welcome to receive Communion); 2. You have participated in the Sacrament of Confession at least during the Easter or Christmas seasons this past year if not more frequently; 3. You attend Divine Services regularly; 4. Your lifestyle is consistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church; 5. You have kept the Liturgical fast no food at least one hour prior to the Divine Liturgy (water & medicine does not break the fast). 6. You have been in church from the beginning of the service, or at least heard the Gospel. 7. To the best of your ability, you are in the state of Grace. If for any of these or other reasons you cannot receive Holy Communion, you are welcome to come for a blessing. Please indicate to the priest that you would like to receive his blessing. ****A Reminder about appropriate reception of Holy Communion - when approaching to receive the Holy Eucharist, the faithful are reminded to open their mouth wide and tilt their head back. Also, please avoid licking the spoon. ***** Vibrant Parish Prayer O Lord Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, as you once gathered lost sheep that they might hear Your voice and be your flock, so also today graciously look down from heaven upon our parish community, and send down on it your Holy Spirit, that it might be a place to receive the joy of Your Good News. Strengthen us with your presence, and always gather us together in prayer. Grant us the spirit of serving

8 others, so that in our parish all might encounter You, the merciful God. Bless our spiritual leaders with Your wisdom, and inspire us to generously give of our time, talents and treasure for the building up of Your Kingdom. Unite us in peace and harmony, as befits Your community of love. Instill in us a missionary spirit, and let our parish community shine with the light of the Gospel, with prayer and good works, inviting all to share in the divine life, so that Your Name, O Savior, may be praised, together with Your eternal Father, and your most-holy, good and life-giving Spirit.
