5 WELCOME Our congregation has been welcoming members and visitors to worship on the Lord s Day since March 16, If you are visiting this morning, we extend a special welcome to you and invite you to introduce yourself to one of the pastors or speak with an usher if you have any questions. Today we welcome Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black as our 2018 Distinguished Guest Speaker. Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black is the first African American Senate Chaplain and the first African-American Navy Chaplain. Since 2003, Chaplain Black has exercised a quiet but respected pastoral ministry among senators and staffers of all backgrounds and persuasions. In his autobiography From the Hood to the Hill, Chaplain Black tells of growing up in a blighted Baltimore neighborhood yet sustained by a loving church community that affirmed his abilities and calling from God. Today s Music: The anthem, Pie Jesu, is a movement from a Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is his most popular sacred composition and has become a beloved standard. The Requiem was premiered in 1985 and dedicated to the composer s father who died in The flowers in the Chancel today are dedicated in loving memory of Anne Johnson. His books, The Blessing of Adversity and Nothing to Fear: Principles and Prayers to Help You Thrive in a Threatening World will be available for purchase and signing.
