St. Anne Parish Commission Contacts Administration Commission ~ Win Spencer , gmaspencer@msn.com Faith Formation Commission ~ Dani Edwards , danielle.s.edwards.06@gmail.com Community Commission ~ John Prey , jvprey45@hotmail.com Outreach Commission ~ Jan Ostrowski Sacred Worship Commission ~ Keri Wulf , keriwulf@charter.net During this weekend, we hear the story about the woman at the well. What does she have to teach us about vulnerability? The interaction between Jesus and her is very human. It reflects a reality of how we interact with each other. Take a closer look at this interaction. Jesus is at the well. The woman comes to draw water do this task and leave. While she might notice Jesus is there, she suspects that he will ignore her. Why would he bother about her? She is likely surprised that he speaks to her. How uncomfortable did she get? When the unexpected occurs, a human reaction is discomfort. I do not have a plan for this. I don t know what to say. I feel awkward. We shuffle our feet. We don t look too intently. We want to leave the situation. Jesus doesn t let this happen. He draws woman into a conversation. First they have small talk they discuss the well. Jesus uses water by which she might see something more. She isn t understanding, but she is intrigued by this new perspective on the well. If she didn t need to come, she could avoid this present awkward situation. Wouldn t it be great to not feel awkward!?! But then Jesus changes the subject. If she wants this water, she needs to admit something about herself. Jesus asks her to go and get her husband. She truthfully answers that she doesn t have a husband yet this is not the whole truth. In our human vulnerability, we don t tell the whole truth right away. Why? Can we trust this person? Will they judge us? Will they accept us? Will they be loving? Our humanness wants to know the answers to these questions before we disclose more. So the woman tests the water. She simply says I don t have a husband. Jesus recognizes her willingness to answer truthfully. He reassures her. He shares what he already seems to know about her. If she had lied, he would have needed to change the conversation. Her honesty allows him to bring a new perspective. Her trust in him allows her to grow in faith; she accepts his help. She goes to her community and shares what she has learned and how she believes in Him and His Word. Without her vulnerability, Jesus could not have helped her. How might we learn from this story? When we consider our preparation for Reconciliation, are we being vulnerable and honest? Confession can be a partial truth or a full disclosure of our sins. God will enter into our conversation in the manner that we invite. Partial truth leads to partial involvement. When we gather at the cross, will we see ourselves in a new way or do we lack the honesty that leads to greater faith? Our faith grows when we are vulnerable with God. How are we the woman at the well? What might change if we are vulnerable and honest not partially but fully accepting God s love? Sharing news about the parish... Just a few more weeks remain for our Friday Fish Frys! Have you been willing to volunteer to help? Lent invites the willingness to make a sacrifice of time; the church would benefit from your participation... and many of the volunteers that I meet find joy in working with other parish members! Whether you have attended or volunteered, celebrate this accomplishment a 61 year tradition for which St. Anne Parish is known! We have reached 61% of our target for the Diocesan Annual Appeal. Small, regular contributions continue. We could use additional help from families who have not yet contributed! As a reminder, the date for receiving a larger rebate is April 1. Would you help us achieve success by then? During this past year, our rebate was sufficient to pay for the replacement of school doors across from the stairwell leading to South Hall. This update restored the doors to meet present fire codes. If we would receive a larger rebate, we could complete a second set of doors. Please consider a donation Thank you! May the blessings of God be showered upon you this week! Fr. Al

3 Is there an Architect in the House? Maybe you ve noticed At times things are a little tight and cozy on the Altar and we ve unfortunately had a couple people trip and fall on the steps. We are currently exploring options for changes to the Altar area to give us more room and aid in accessibility to individuals with disabilities. Our Worship Space Committee is in need of some professional help (the design kind) to put our ideas on paper. If you can donate some time to the Parish and assist the committee please contact Pete Roth at or at peteroth@charter.net. Even if you aren t an architect, we value your thoughts and ideas as we make plans to improve our worship space and you can contact Pete with your suggestions.
