If you have not turned in your permission slip for the Palm Sunday liturgical dance, please do! The deadline was Friday, March 2, but since many people would very much like to see the liturgical dance happen, we will accept permission slips on Monday, March 5. Please return them to Renee Fredel in the parish office. Low gluten hosts are available. If you need a low gluten host, please take one of the cards from the basket at the Church entrance. Come up the center aisle for Communion and show the Minister the card. They will go to the altar to get a low gluten host for you to take from a special dish. About the Liturgy Lenten Fasting Traditionally, Christian penance has been represented in three Interrelated practices: almsgiving (practicing charity), prayer, and fasting (see the gospel for Ash Wednesday, Matthew 6: 1-6, 16-18). Each of these practices is aimed at a key relationship in our lives to others (almsgiving), to God (prayer), and to ourselves (fasting). We are reminded that Lent is a time to look at our whole selves and all of our relationships. We may not always think about having a relationship with ourselves, but Lent is truly about getting our own house in order. On the mountaintop Peter, James, and John got a glimpse of the fullness of Christ s glory. Fullness can best be appreciated by a prior experience of emptiness. Such is the intent behind the Lenten fast. We empty ourselves so that we hunger only for God and are filled by God s presence. Our Lenten fasting practices are more earnest and austere (severe, strict) than those during the rest of the year (such as before receiving Holy Communion) and are an opportunity for us to sincerely hunger for God and reflect on the grace of our own self-emptying. Fasting is a form of disciplining ourselves so that we can set our sights on who truly brings us satisfaction - God. Please refer any questions you may have about the liturgy to Renee Fredel in the Parish Office. The Sacred Worship Commission will do its best to answer your question. 5th Annual Catholics Alive Conference: Perspective on Catholic Social Teaching Do you know what the term "Catholic Social Teaching" means? Would you like to know what our Catholic Church teaches relating to the political issues of our time? Do you what to know what your rights and responsibilities as a Catholic voter are? There is time during the day to experience the Prayer Walk. The Wausau Directors of Religious Education Leadership are sponsoring the 5th Annual Catholics Alive in Christ Conference. The keynote presenter is John Huebscher, the Director of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference. The conference is March 10 from 8:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. at St. Anne Church. The cost is $15 per person and the contact person is Ann Sirianni at or dffanns@yahoo.com 2 Welcome to the Church of Saint Anne [

3 Dear People of St. Anne s, Jesus took Peter, James and John and led them up. (Mark 9:2) (Gather # 908) They went like hotcakes!... the books and the fish. Matthew Kelly s diagnosis of the condition of the Catholic Church must have rung true to a lot of people last Sunday. Because when the invitation was extended to come forward and take a copy of the book, they went like hotcakes! In fact, all five hundred donated books disappeared by the end of the 10:30 a.m. liturgy. The good news is that Matthew Kelly believes his message is so important that he will send you a free copy. Go to DynamicCatholicism.com and select Rediscover Catholicism. For the cost of shipping they will send you your own copy. There are many other good materials on his site as well. This week we will read Part Two: The Authentic Life (Chapters 6-11). Like a doctor after diagnosing the nature of the disease, he makes his prescription for returning the Church back to health. He says the cure for a people who have lost their way is to restore to them their true purpose in life. Catholics have become mired in all of present society s difficulties because we have forgotten our true purpose for being in the world: to become Holy. And Holiness, in his down-to-earth thinking, is becoming the best version of ourselves possible. Contrary to what many believe, spirituality does not oppress us, but sets us free to be who we truly are. We are most blessed to have Sr. Mary Pazdan with us this weekend and for the next three days to lead our parish mission. Sr. Mary had agreed to this a year ago and so began her planning long before our Lenten planning team had settled on our theme and the work of Matthew Kelly. When she saw where we were heading she wrote: It is amazing how the Spirit works. For the Spirit was leading her and us in the same direction! So Sr. Mary comes at the perfect time to lend her Scriptural insight, theological training, and passion to the work of becoming our true selves in Christ. For your good, for the good of St. Anne s, for the good of our country! Come!! Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Each morning at 9:30 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. in the evening she will speak about the spiritual life. There will be time to socialize after each session, so come also expecting to enjoy the company of friends new and old. Surely a highpoint in our year, our Parish Mission is not, however, the only great opportunity coming our way. This Saturday, March 10 th, the Fifth Annual Catholics Alive In Christ Conference is being held right here at St. Anne s. In keeping with Matthew Kelly s call to humbly but heroically live by what is good, true and noble this conference equips Catholics to engage society on the ethical issues of our day. The keynote speaker, John Huebscher, is the executive director of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference. That means he speaks on behalf of the Wisconsin Bishops to our state legislators and guides the Bishops as they engage in the legislative process. John has also been active on a national level including being the President of the National Association of State Catholic Conference Directors. His keynote address is on Faithful Citizenship. There will be breakout sessions with other speakers during the day. The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a $15 registration fee. Contrary to what many believe, spirituality does not oppress us, but sets us free to be who we truly are. But not only did the books go like hotcakes the fish did as well! Our opening Fish Fry was a great start to the season. First of all because we had an abundance of customers from 94-year-old Althea Hughes who hasn t missed a Fish Fry in decades, to many who were there for a first time. And just as important, we had a wonderful turnout of volunteer workers. The dining room was split between our parish youth working to raise funds for their mission trip, NTC SEEDS students, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Mixed in there and in the kitchen were a group of men from the Randlin Homes. It was a wonderfully diverse and happy team. Apart from the list of Take Out workers that got misplaced and so never called, it was an almost flawless opening night. Thank you to all who stepped in last minute to fill the gaps. And most of all thank you to Vernell and Joe Theisen for leading us! We have begun another rich Lenten season. And we all know, of course, that through Matthew Kelly, Sr. Mary Pazdan, John Huebscher, and Joe and Vernell. it s really Christ who. leads us up. along with Peter, James and John. Online Giving makes it easy for you to fulfill your financial commitments to the parish even when you are unable to attend Mass. You do not need to bring cash or checks to church. Giving electronically also helps the church staff plan the budget. How are my contributions automatically deducted from my account? When you create your account, you enter your credit card and/or bank account information and then specify the amount you wish to contribute. Your contribution will be transferred from your account to the church account. Do I have to use a credit card? The Online Giving system provides your parish the option to offer both credit card and direct withdrawal (ACH) options for contributions. You do not have to use a credit card for contributions. When will my contribution be deducted from my account? The Online Giving system provides you the ability to select the date you would like your contribution to occur. You will receive an notification prior to each contribution date, and your account will be debited on the date you specify. If I do not write checks, then how do I balance my checkbook? You will receive an notification prior to each contribution date and also a confirmation that your gift has been processed. Electronic contributions are also recorded on your bank statement and in your Online Giving reports. Can I contribute different amounts to different offerings? Can they be withdrawn at different times? Can I use different accounts for the contributions? The system provides you the capability to give different amounts to different offerings at different times. For example, assuming your parish has set up these gift offerings, you are able to give your regular weekly offering on the 1st of the month and your flower gift on the 10th of the month. You are able to use any number of bank and/or credit card accounts for your offerings. What if I change bank accounts? Simply login and update your bank account information in your profile. What if I want to stop using Online Giving? You can cancel your authorization by deleting your credit card and/or bank account information along with your donation dates. Your contributions will stop immediately and the history will be secured. How Do I Get Started? 1. Visit your parish website 2. Click on the Online Giving link 3. Click on the Create New Account link. Learn more by going to stanneswausau.org and clicking on the Online Giving link. 4 Welcome to the Church of Saint Anne [

6 Week 2: Mobile Apps/eBooks/Website & Prayers for Lent Daily Reflections for Lent: Not By Bread Alone Available on the Android and iphone/pad Market Find spiritual sustenance for the season of Lent in Bishop Morneau s reflections on the daily Mass readings. Not by Bread Alone offers a short collection of insightful meditations that focus on Lenten themes of repentance and redemption, sacrifice and salvation as well as the Easter promise of resurrection and new life. With Scripture as the foundation for each day s brief entry, readers will find the guidance they need to become closer to God s word during this holy time of year. The short yet significant reflections in this pocket-sized book make it simple for even the busiest person to make prayer a priority throughout the Lenten journey. PEACE AND JUSTICE WAY OF THE CROSS The trial of Christ is still going on. Christ is being tried in the person of his brothers and sisters. Only their names and faces, the dates and places of their birth have changed. Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko Many of God's children are suffering in our world today. These are the people whom Jesus had special care for. As we remember the passion and death of Jesus, we acknowledge that the Body of Christ still suffers in his people who suffer today. At each station we will talk about a person who has followed Jesus' example of care for others with love and courage, along with a topic concerning peace or justice, which that person was dedicated to.
