We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly king, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. Liturgy of the Word First Reading ~ Acts 1:1-11 Penitential Act All: I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for "the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak; for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."

GOSPEL~ MARK 16:15-20 PRIEST: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. Jesus said to his disciples: Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs. Priest: The Gospel of the Lord All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. 2

3 Profession of Faith I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 4 The spirit of unity Good News Reflection What makes us one with our brothers and sisters of the faith, i.e., people who love and follow the same Lord, Jesus Christ? We can have many differences and still have unity. We can have conflicts among the people who serve God in parish staffs and ministries, and still have unity. We can disagree with the non-catholic beliefs of our Protestant kin and still have Christian unity. Jesus prayed for this unity, as we see in the Sunday's Gospel reading for the seventh Sunday of Easter. Are we the answer to his prayer? Or are we working against him? Being one in the Lord does not require getting rid of everything that divides us from each other. Rather, it comes from recognizing that we stand on common ground as we worship Christ, no matter how differently we worship him. The spirit of unity is the appreciation of what we have in common. It's the recognition that we are individually members of the same body and that we need each other so that the Body of Christ on earth functions well. Being one in the Lord Jesus means being different than the rest of the world. Our unity comes from belonging to the kingdom of God rather than to the kingdom of darkness and evil. And this unity is strengthened by purging ourselves of sin -- individually and as a body. Jesus said to the Father, "I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world." All those who love, follow, and serve Jesus, regardless of their denominational affiliations, are all members of the same family, the Holy Family. We live together on the same side of the cross, which is resurrection and eternal life. However, when we allow ourselves to sin, thinking as the world thinks, with prejudices and judgmentalism and condemnation toward other Christians, we divide ourselves not only from our brothers and sisters but also from God's kingdom of love. We break the unity for which Jesus prayed. Questions for Personal Reflection: Do you see yourself as united with or divided from those in your parish who worship differently than you? What about Christians of other denominations? Who else do you feel spiritually divided from? Ask Jesus to repeat his prayer for unity but to focus it, this time, on you. El espíritu de unidad Buena Nueva Qué nos hace uno con nuestros hermanos y hermanas en la fe, es decir, con las personas que amamos y siguen al mismo Señor Jesucristo? Podemos tener muchas diferencias y aun así tener unidad. Podemos tener conflictos entre las personas que sirven a Dios en los ministerios y el equipo parroquial y, sin embargo, tener unidad. Podemos no estar de acuerdo con las creencias no católicas de nuestros hermanos protestantes y aun así tener unidad cristiana. Jesús oró por esta unidad, como vemos en la lectura del Evangelio del Domingo para el 7mo. Domingo de Pascua. Somos nosotros la respuesta a su oración? O estamos trabajando contra él? Para ser uno con el Señor, no necesitamos deshacernos de todo lo que nos divide. Es reconocer que somos miembros individuales del mismo cuerpo y que nos necesitamos mutuamente para que el Cuerpo de Cristo en la tierra funcione bien. Ser uno en el Señor Jesús significa ser diferente del resto del mundo. Nuestra unidad surge de pertenecer al Reino de Dios en lugar del reino de la oscuridad y el mal. Y esta unidad es fortalecida al purificarnos del pecado individualmente y como cuerpo. Jesús le dijo al Padre: "Les he dado tu palabra y el mundo los ha odiado, porque ellos ya no pertenecen al mundo como Yo no pertenezco al mundo." Todos aquellos que aman, siguen y sirven a Jesús, sin importar sus afiliaciones, son todos miembros de la misma familia, la Sagrada Familia. Vivimos juntos del mismo lado de la cruz, el cual es resurrección y vida eterna. No obstante, cuando nos permitimos pecar, pensando como piensa el mundo, con prejuicios, juicios y condenación hacia otros cristianos, nos apartamos no sólo de nuestros hermanos y hermanas sino, también, del Reino de amor de Dios. Rompemos la unidad por la que Jesús oró. Preguntas para la Reflexión Personal: Te ves a ti mismo unido o apartado de aquellas personas de tu parroquia que adoran de forma diferente a ti? Y con respecto a cristianos de otra denominación? De quién más te sientes espiritualmente apartado? Pídele a Jesús que repita su oración de unidad pero para que la enfoque, esta vez, en ti. 4

6 Music CONSTITUTION ON THE SACRED LITURGY SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM SOLEMNLY PROMULGATED BY HIS HOLINESS POPE PAUL VI ON DECEMBER 4, 1963 Part 1 & 2 1. This sacred Council has several aims in view: it desires to impart an ever increasing vigor to the Christian life of the faithful; to adapt more suitably to the needs of our own times those institutions which are subject to change; to foster whatever can promote union among all who believe in Christ; to strengthen whatever can help to call the whole of mankind into the household of the Church. The Council therefore sees particularly cogent reasons for undertaking the reform and promotion of the liturgy. 2. For the liturgy, "through which the work of our redemption is accomplished," [1] most of all in the divine sacrifice of the Eucharist, is the outstanding means whereby the faithful may express in their lives, and manifest to others, the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church. It is of the essence of the Church that she be both human and divine, visible and yet invisibly equipped, eager to act and yet intent on contemplation, present in this world and yet not at home in it; and she is all these things in such wise that in her the human is directed and subordinated to the divine, the visible likewise to the invisible, action to contemplation, and this present world to that city yet to come, which we seek [2]. While the liturgy daily builds up those who are within into a holy temple of the Lord, into a dwelling place for God in the Spirit [3], to the mature measure of the fullness of Christ [4], at the same time it marvelously strengthens their power to preach Christ, and thus shows forth the Church to those who are outside as a sign lifted up among the nations [5] under which the scattered children of God may be gathered together [6], until there is one sheepfold and one shepherd [7]. Stewardship Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 1 J 4:15 How strong is your faith? When you have an opportunity to either defend or clarify a question about our Catholic faith, do you do it? Or, do you remain silent so that others don t think you are weird? Pray for the courage to be strong in all circumstances and to share your witness with others. Respect Life Motherhood involves a special communion with the mystery of life, as it develops in the mother's womb. The mother is filled with wonder at this mystery of life, and 'understands' with unique intuition what is happening inside her. In the light of the 'beginning', the mother accepts and loves as a person the child she is carrying in her womb. This unique contact with the new human being developing within her gives rise to an attitude towards human beings - not only towards her own child, but every human being - which profoundly marks the woman's personality.
