Our new bishop is very eager to get to know the parishes and priests of the Diocese as quickly as possible. He will be visiting our parish to celebrate the Confirmation Mass on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. Saint Mary s grade school and middle school have had a great year and are looking forward to more good things happening in the school year. This is the ideal time to register students. Please contact the school this week to learn about enrolling your child or grandchild. Plenty of financial aid is available, including EdChoice scholarships from the State of Ohio, the Father Furey scholarship, and other forms of assistance. No other school in the area can offer our winning combination of faith, knowledge, and service. 7 THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT APRIL 7, 2019 At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us learn to pray. The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. These sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a deeply personal encounter with God. The Knights of Columbus will once again be holding their everpopular Fish Fries on Fridays during Lent from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1231 E. Center Street. Meal will consist of all-youcan-eat fish, French fries, coleslaw and dinner roll. Cost is $9.00 for adults and children 12 and over; $8.00 for Senior Citizens 60 and over; $5.00 for children ages 5 to 12 and children under the age of 5 are free. There is a maximum charge of $30.00 for a family (family is defined as living under the same roof). The Catholic Church responds to disasters! In the United States: Catholic Charities USA responds to flooding in Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. The current round of flooding was triggered by a brutal bomb cyclone storm and is expected to persist across several states. Additionally, snowmelt and spring rains could create additional flooding in the weeks ahead. AccuWeather Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said, El Niño is likely to persist through the spring and not weaken like it usually does this time of the year. Translation: While the storms probably won t reach bomb cyclone intensity, there will remain the risk of strong storms into May. Catholic Charities USA is the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church. Their disaster response teams along with the knowledge and expertise of our member agencies mobilize quickly and effectively to aid those experiencing or recovering from disasters. The Catholic Church responds to disasters! Globally: CRS responds to widespread destruction in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe from Tropical Cyclone Idai, which has caused massive damage to infrastructure and killed upwards of 200 people, affecting 600,000 others. Here s what we know so far (as of March 20): Tropical Cyclone Idai initially hit moving to Zimbabwe and Malawi in Southern Africa. It has destroyed roads, bridges and crops, and thousands of people have lost their homes. The death toll could be higher than 1,000 people, according to media reports. CRS is working with local partners in all three countries to support 4,000 households with food, emergency shelter, water and living supplies for flood-affected families. CRS also will work with partners to rehabilitate shelters and sanitation facilities and provide access to agricultural supplies and grants for those in urban areas. Last week s release of Unplanned was a major success! A pro-abortion newspaper columnist wrote, By the end of the film, I was completely distraught, questioning everything I had ever believed about what abortion really was.
