We are a welcoming church family spread throughout the town of Alton, Holybourne and Beech and our aim is to offer worship which deepens our faith, common life and our relationship with Jesus Christ. 2 Dear Reader Firstly some reminders. Next Sunday, 23rd July, many of us will be on our Parish Weekend Away and there will only be an 8am service at St Lawrence, a 10.30am communion service at All Saints and a 5pm Songs of Praise at St Peter s that day. On Sunday 30th, as it is our practice to be together on a 5th Sunday, we will gather at Beech Village Hall for a 10.30am service led by Chris and Joy - there will also be an 8am communion at St Lawrence. I am pleased to announce that Busy Bees Nursery, run by Janet Duddridge and Alison Stickland, are to run the Pre-School provision at the St Lawrence Parish Centre starting in September. For a number of years the St Lawrence Playgroup has run as a community committee but we believe this is a very good way forward and we look forward to working with the Busy Bees staff. During the summer holidays we hope to make some improvements to the Parish Centre by installing a new heating system, some double glazing and redecoration. There will be a change in Tori s working arrangements in the Parish Office as of Monday 31st July. There is no change in the hours she works. She will do solely parish bookkeeping on a Monday away from the office. The Parish Office will remain open on a Monday from am staffed by volunteers. Then on Tuesday-Thursday Tori will be working in the office from 9am-3pm. The office will be closed on a Friday. Andrew Please remember to support our local food bank. Don t come to church empty handed All donations to be placed in the Foodbank basket in church. The Parish is reliant on the generosity of its worshipping community for all of our ministry and mission. We are grateful to those who contribute financially. If you wish to give more or become a regular giver then please speak to Elizabeth Dain on or dainbs@btinternet.com, and she will talk to you about the Parish Giving Scheme. If you are tax payer then please do make sure your donation is gift aided and the government will give us 25% more at no extra cost to you. There are envelopes available for one-off gifts. An easy way to donate to the Parish of the Resurrection. Send a text to with the message POTR34 and the value of your donation e.g. 5. Please speak with Tori Hewitt on if you would like any help with using this new form of donating. 2

4 Praying in July 2016 We continue to pray for Chris Bradish and Joy Windsor following Chris priesting and Joy s ordination - for their ministry here in the parish, for their family and friends, for God s blessing upon this vocation and life. We pray for Ali Wright, our new appointed Youth Minister and Chaplain to Alton College. We ask for a good leaving from her present post in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight and then for her move to Alton during the summer and the preparations for her beginning ministry with us. We give thanks for the ministry of Resurrection Furniture - our new social enterprise initiative on Alton High Street. We pray for the Trustees as they oversee the project - Robin Lees, Derek Gurney, Lisa Hillan and Clive Muller. We pray also for Michelle the shop manager. We ask for God s blessing upon the opening and the beginning of trading. Please pray for the meeting of the General Synod of the Church of England which takes place between 7th and 11th July in York. Remember in your prayers our Diocesan representatives of which Andrew is one. We pray for our local pre-school and nurseries. Especially we pray for St Lawrence Pre-School which is closing and being taken over by Busybees, another good local pre-school business. We ask God s wisdom and guidance on the handover and as we engage missionally with the children and families. The Living Space Project for the Church of the Holy Rood, Holybourne is at a crucial stage as we plan the work for phase one. Please pray for the Living Space Team, the architect and contractors as work begins during the autumn. We also give thanks for all the restoration work that has taken place over the last 18 months at St Lawrence Church, as it now comes to an end. Pray for a good completion. We particularly give thanks for the dedication of the contractors and team and also for the St Lawrence DCC who have worked tirelessly throughout the process. 4
5 The call to prayer is in three simple ways Daily, weekly, monthly Every day there is a prayer for the beginning of the day, for the middle of the day and for the end of the day. Please find a suitable time to use these prayers which are printed here. For the beginning of the day - The Community Prayer Living God, you have called us to be the Body of Christ. May our parish be a sign of hope in our community of Holybourne, Beech and Alton. May all we do, and all we are becoming, bring praise to your name and draw others to your love. We ask these things in the name of Jesus, who came to serve and bring us fullness of life. Amen. For the middle of the day - The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. For the end of the day - The Caleb Prayer O High King of heaven, have mercy on our land. Revive your Church; send the Holy Spirit for the sake of the children. May your kingdom come to our nation. In Jesus mighty name. Amen. We should pray for each person by name; Those who are sick or require prayer: Barbara Small, Jessica Withers, Pat Mansey, Tony Ludlow, Julie Tillcock, Derek Shutler, Peter Longhurst, Ben Stonehill, Gwen Pettigrew, Neil, Mike Corfe, Ken Littlefield, Alan Winter and Margaret Morley Those who are bereaved: Families of Trevor Maton, John Boydell, Albert Marlow, Barrington Blogg, Maureen Ayre, Sheila White, Hilary Fowler, William Begbie and Doreen Giles. Those preparing for Marriage: Helen Davenport & Richard Wheatland, Ysella Tremayne & Bart Van Herwijnen, Catriona Wood & Graham Nash, Emma Burgess & Peter Smith, Jo Poole & Charles Stringer, Paige Cameron & James Pomroy, Stephen Wright & Danielle Way, Benjamin Collins & Kimberley King. 5

Opening hours are Tuesday - Saturday 9am until 5pm. Jigsaws Thank you to everyone who has been busily making up and providing puzzles. We are looking forward to our next Jigfest with much anticipation! We are currently overstocked with unmade puzzles and finding it difficult to store them all. Can I ask that unless the puzzle and box is in excellent condition (not damaged or with tape marks or writing on it) and of a branded make (e.g Ravensburger, Gibsons, WH Smith FX Schmidt, Jumbo) or a vintage wooden puzzle, that you please not leave it in the church. Also puzzles with more than 1000 pieces aren't very popular as they take up too much room. We will have to de-stock on many below-standard puzzles to keep our festival on top form.
