There will be cake and nibbles. There is a baptism at 12 noon but that won t stop us from celebrating. 2 Important Information regarding the formation of the new St. Patrick s Church, Salter Street Parish The final paperwork has now been agreed and therefore the new Pastoral Measure forming Salter Street, St. Patrick s Parish will come in to effect on the 1 st September, With this in mind, you will find the electoral roll as at 20 th August for St. Patrick s Church displayed on our notice boards in the porch and in the Undercroft. A special meeting will be convened on Sunday 10 th September immediately after the morning service. At this meeting members will be elected to serve as new PCC members. The churchwardens will also be elected, as will Deanery Synod representatives, sidespersons, health and safety Officer, Safeguarding Officer, and electoral roll officer. They will be elected for a period of 6 months and then in March 2018 a full Annual General Meeting will be held as usual and reports received and end of year accounts as would normally happen. Election forms are available from Sarah Perry. Prayer for the Week As a sign of our commitment to being a brand new parish, we need to get back to basics and root ourselves in prayer, Bible Study and fellowship. With this in mind each week a prayer will be included in the Pews News please would everyone take this home with them and pray it every day alongside their daily prayers. The more we pray and invite God in to our church, the more we will truly become a living sacrifice for his Kingdom. Grant to your servants, O God, to be set on fire with your love, to be strengthened by your power to be illuminated by your Spirit, to be filled with your grace, and to go forward by your help; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Gallican Sacramentary) Little Acorns Little Acorns is held on the first Friday of the month during term time Time: 10am am held in the undercroft. These are the dates for the next term. Fridays 8 th Sep, 6 th Oct, 3 rd Nov and 1 st Dec Unfortunately, Anita has made the difficult decision to close Little Acorns on 1 st December 2017 due to lack of interest. 2

3 Shirley Band Tickets tell your friends and neighbours On the afternoon of September 23 rd, we will be pleased to welcome members of Shirley Band to entertain us. Everyone is welcome, including families; perhaps you know a young person who is learning to play an instrument bring them along, although warn them it will be quite loud! Tickets are now on sale from Barbara - 8, 7.50 (concessions), 20 family ticket. Marvellous Moths in our Churchyard The Earlswood Wildlife Partnership will be running an event at church on Thursday 14 th September at 7.30pm. For more information and booking speak to Tony or Barbara Places are limited. Voluntary Workplace Chaplaincy in Solihull If you are interested in becoming a voluntary workplace chaplain, a new introduction and training course will be held on Wednesdays 13 th and 20 th September and Monday 25 th September from 10am until 12 noon at Touchwood Shopping Centre. There are some leaflets with further information on in the church porch or contact Peter Sellick on or him at peter.sellick@cigb.org.uk Bible Study Restarts 19 th September Looking at Moses and the construction of the Tabernacle. Our aim is to see worship not simply as a weekly event but as a life style of obedience. 3 rd October Looking at The Death of Moses. The aim of this session is to help us persevere in serving God despite our failures. This will conclude our series on Moses you don t need to have completed the other sessions in order to attend so please do join us. As the DCC are looking to make prayer a priority we are then going to be following The Prayer Course. This consists of 6 videos that will fuel discussion with the aim of deepening our own prayer lives and that of St Patricks. Join us for one, two or all the sessions, dates are as follows: - 17 th October - Adoration 31 st October - Petition 14 th November Intercession 28 th November Listening (The final 2 sessions will be in the New Year) 12 th December Christmas social 3

4 Youth Club Volunteers Required Please, we could do with having a couple more volunteers for youth club. This takes place during term time only on Wednesday evenings in Dickens Heath Parish Rooms. Volunteers arrive at 6.30pm and set up and then the club opens at 7pm until 8.30pm. We have a really nice bunch of young people who really appreciate having the club. If you would like to come along - just to see how things run - do have a word with either Rev'd Julie or Sarah Perry. Even if you don't really think interacting with the young people is particularly your thing - if you would be willing to help set up the equipment and serve on the tuck shop and put the equipment away at the end - that would be an enormous help. If we could get two volunteers - this would mean simply taking a turn on the rota once a fortnight during term time only. The new term starts on Wednesday 13th September. Lianne Nichols Lianne thanks everyone for their support for the Women s refuge over the summer months. She is no longer collecting items as they now have plenty. Thank you everyone who has so kindly donated. 3D Course The Diocesan course for Developing Disciples is starting again this September. There are booklets detailing this course in both the porch and the Undercroft. If you think that God may be calling you to become a Reader or perhaps to accredited Pastoral ministry then completion of the 3D course is a requirement. For further information please speak to Rev d Julie. Narthex and Foodbank FOOD BANK: this week s shortages included tinned fruit and boxed fruit juice. If anyone has any spare garden produce it would be very well received; last week we had surplus tomatoes, cucumbers and beetroots- we put them a few at a time into bags on the Extras table from where they were eagerly snapped up. Hygiene box for the CLOTHING BANK: hair shampoo and baby wipes. Thanks everyone, Elizabeth Paice. Exodus 3: One day, Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, and Moses decided to lead them across the desert to Sinai, [a] the holy mountain. 2 There an angel of the LORD appeared to him from a burning bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire, but it was not burning up. 3 This is strange! he said to himself. I ll go over and see why the bush isn t burning up. 4 When the LORD saw Moses coming near the bush, he called him by name, and Moses answered, Here I am. 5 God replied, Don t come any closer. Take off your sandals the ground where you are standing is holy. 6 I am the God who was worshiped by your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses was afraid to look at God, and so he hid his face. 5

6 7 The LORD said: I have seen how my people are suffering as slaves in Egypt, and I have heard them beg for my help because of the way they are being mistreated. I feel sorry for them, 8 and I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians. I will bring my people out of Egypt into a country where there is good land, rich with milk and honey. I will give them the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live. 9 My people have begged for my help, and I have seen how cruel the Egyptians are to them. 10 Now go to the king! I am sending you to lead my people out of his country. 11 But Moses said, Who am I to go to the king and lead your people out of Egypt? 12 God replied, I will be with you. And you will know that I am the one who sent you, when you worship me on this mountain after you have led my people out of Egypt. [b] 13 Moses answered, I will tell the people of Israel that the God their ancestors worshiped has sent me to them. But what should I say, if they ask me your name? God said to Moses: I am the eternal God. So tell them that the LORD, [c] whose name is I Am, has sent you. This is my name forever, and it is the name that people must use from now on. Romans 16:21-end 9 Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. 10 Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. 11 Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord. 12 Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying. 13 Take care of God s needy people and welcome strangers into your home. 14 Ask God to bless everyone who mistreats you. Ask him to bless them and not to curse them. 15 When others are happy, be happy with them, and when they are sad, be sad. 16 Be friendly with everyone. Don t be proud and feel that you are smarter than others. Make friends with ordinary people. [a] 17 Don t mistreat someone who has mistreated you. But try to earn the respect of others, 18 and do your best to live at peace with everyone. 6

7 19 Dear friends, don t try to get even. Let God take revenge. In the Scriptures the Lord says, I am the one to take revenge and pay them back. 20 The Scriptures also say, If your enemies are hungry, give them something to eat. And if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. This will be the same as piling burning coals on their heads. 21 Don t let evil defeat you, but defeat evil with good. Matthew 16:21-end 21 From then on, Jesus began telling his disciples what would happen to him. He said, I must go to Jerusalem. There the nation s leaders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law of Moses will make me suffer terribly. I will be killed, but three days later I will rise to life. 22 Peter took Jesus aside and told him to stop talking like that. He said, God would never let this happen to you, Lord! 23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, Satan, get away from me! You re in my way because you think like everyone else and not like God. 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me. 25 If you want to save your life, [a] you will destroy it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find it. 26 What will you gain, if you own the whole world but destroy yourself? What would you give to get back your soul? 27 The Son of Man will soon come in the glory of his Father and with his angels to reward all people for what they have done. 28 I promise you that some of those standing here will not die before they see the Son of Man coming with his kingdom. 7

8 Post Communion Prayer God of all mercy, in this Eucharist you have set aside our sins and given us your healing: grant that we who are made whole in Christ may bring that healing to this broken world, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Please pray for those in need. Please speak to Rev d Julie regarding requests to be included in our prayer book. Please would the whole church remember Tim Harrison and his parents Bob and Sheila in your personal prayers Please pray for the departed I m sure many of you will remember Monica Degg the wife of Reverend Ralph Degg who was the vicar of this church during the mid 70 s to mid 80 s. Monica passed away recently and I m sure many of you will want to remember her in your prayers. Reunited with her husband, Ralph, may she rest in peace and rise in glory.
