Psalm 116:13 Sacrificial Giving: Thank You! St. James $2, Sacred Heart $1, St. Patrick $ PRECIOUS BLOOD On this solemnity we focus our attention on the Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. Today may we, like the psalmist, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose Body and Blood strengthen us to bring the Good News to everyone we meet. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. PRECIOSA SANGRE En esta solemnidad centramos nuestra atención al Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Escuchamos el relato de renovación de la antigua alianza, la cual Moisés selló rociando la sangre de animales en el altar de sacrificio, así como en las personas. Jesús, cuya sangre es la sangre de la nueva alianza, derramó esa preciosa sangre en la cruz para salvarnos del pecado y prometernos la vida eterna. La sangre es la fuente de vida que fluye por nuestro cuerpo. La preciosa sangre de Cristo es la fuente de vida de nuestro espíritu. Que hoy, como el salmista, ofrezcamos un sacrificio de agradecimiento al Señor, cuyo cuerpo y sangre nos fortalecen para llevar la Buena Nueva a todos los que conocemos. Copyright J. S. 4 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Sacred Heart Festival - this coming Saturday! We begin with a 3 pm Mass celebrating the feast of the Sacred Heart, followed by a fun time together till the wee hours. Auction begins at 4:30 pm in the hall - bring items to our parish office. Interested in a 1930 s GE brass-bladed fan (of course it runs!), or (for sauer kraut lovers) a century-old wooden cabbage slicer, both donated by Fr. Paul? Come to the auction and bring your wallet! Credit cards also accepted. For more details about the festival, see the enclosed flyer. Please lift in prayer six men ordained to the priesthood this weekend: Michael English, Fransisco Garcia, John Nhat Thanh Le, Roberto Valadez Rosales, George Wanjira and Sean Michael Stilson BBD. May their ministry to our Archdiocese be long and fruitful! Men s Gathering/Prayer Service: Thursday, June 7, 7 pm in St. James Hall. All men of our parish are invited to come pray, eat, and visit! Summer Vacation Bible School: At St. James - June 18-22, 5:30-8:30 pm. Registration forms are available in church! Call the parish office for more information, Parish Utilities - Your parish wants to keep its utility bills as low as possible. As summer approaches, we appeal to all parishioners to help in this effort by making sure that A/C and lights are off before leaving any building. Recently, several instances occurred, in which A/C units in our hall and office building had been set at 60 degrees (!) and left running till we arrived the next morning. Ooch! Please take care of our church, and don t burn our collection money! We re all responsible for the good stewardship of our resources. Registration for Religious Education: We begin this week - Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 am - 6 pm in our Religious Ed Office. For all children, K-12. A change this coming year - we re moving 6 th grade to Sunday mornings, to maximize use of our facilities. Our Catholic Community blesses Jose Cordova and Jackie Martinez who celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony next Sunday, June 10 at St. James Church. Jose and Jackie, may you always live the sacrament you will receive! Father Paul s Farewell: Saturday, June 23, after the 5:30 Mass in St. James Hall. All are welcome! Food provided by our parish organizations. Save the date! 2 nd Collection Next Weekend: Priests Pension Fund. This worthy fund ensures that priests who have so generously dedicated their lives in service of God s people may be able to live in retirement with dignity and care.
