St. James $3, Sacred Heart $2, St. Patrick $ AYÚDAME, SEÑOR Hoy escuchamos lecturas que nos acercan al misterio de sufrimiento y muerte. En los últimos años hemos sido testigos de la devastación de vidas y propiedades a manos de tsunamis y huracanes. Muchos elevaron su lamento a Dios y preguntaron: Por qué? Esta es una expresión sincera de ira hacia un Dios que creemos da la vida. Cuando perdemos a un ser querido, puede que nos preguntemos por qué la presencia de Cristo no es suficiente para hacer que esa persona resucite, incluso de entre los muertos, como la pequeña niña del pasaje del Evangelio de hoy. Entonces alzamos la voz y preguntamos: Por qué? En momentos como estos, debemos acudir a la oración del salmista: Escucha Señor y ten piedad de mí; Señor, socórreme. In the past few years we have witnessed the devastation of life and property through earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to God, simply asking, Why? This is an honest expression of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life. When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the presence of Christ is not enough to make that person rise, even from death, as did the little girl in today s Gospel passage. Again we raise our voices and ask, Why? At moments such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our own: Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my helper. 4 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time A great thanks to all of you for the life we have shared over the past years! And a special thanks for the heartfelt farewell last Saturday evening, and the many gifts you have so generously shared. As we continue our journeys of faith, my prayer is that we continue to be enriched by the memories of the experiences we have had together over these years. In my first homily in our Catholic Community on June 4, 2006, I expressed how faith should always bring us joy. And so, my final blessing to all of you: May this community always witness to the joy of our risen Savior! I love you and will miss you. Be assured of my prayer - Fr. Paul Welcome, Father Mike! A warm CCGW welcome to Father Michael Peinemann, who begins his work in our Catholic Community this week. A bit about Fr. Mike - he was born July 2, 1939 (happy birthday tomorrow, Fr. Mike!!!) in New Braunfels to Max and Mildred Peinemann. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and graduated from New Braunfels High School in He graduated from Texas State in 1965 and began teaching at East Central High School in San Antonio. In 1976 Michael and Elizabeth Barnhart married and adopted a daughter Kimberly, who resides in New Braunfels. After retiring from teaching in 1994, Michael and Elizabeth began studies for the Permanent Deaconate. Michael was ordained a Permanent Deacon in September, Elizabeth passed away in May, After two years of discernment and studies at the Oblate School of Theology, Deacon Michael enrolled at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin in 2003 and was ordained a priest May 28, 2005 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in New Braunfels. Father Michael served at Notre Dame Church in Kerrville; Assumption Seminary; St. Anthony Church in Harper; and Sacred Heart Church in Comfort. He was then assigned to St. Joan of Arc Church in San Antonio (Kirby) on July 1, 2014, where he served until beginning his work with our Catholic Community. Father Stanislaw Fiuk officially becomes our pastor this week! Fr. Stan is visiting his family in Poland, and will arrive during the week of July 22. He looks forward to meeting you all, and asks that all of you continue your many ministries in the ways you have become accustomed, until he arrives and settles in. Mission Appeal: The weekend of July 14-15, please welcome Father John Hopkinson, a Marist Missionary Priest working in Bolivia, who will ask your support for the missionary work of his congregation. Your generosity is appreciated! Free books - Looking for summer reading? Come to the St. John Paul Room and rummage through Fr. Paul s old books; take what appeals to you! Everything from the Poetry of St. John of the Cross, to a 96 Ford Ranger Repair Manual. Books not taken by the end of July will be discarded. Don t let that happen! Lots of good reading. Y un agradecimiento especial por la sincera despedida de la noche del sábado pasado y por los muchos regalos que compartió tan generosamente. A medida que continuamos nuestros viajes de fe, mi oración es que continuemos enriqueciéndonos con los recuerdos de las experiencias que hemos tenido juntos a lo largo de estos años.
