Galloway St, Springfield, MO Phone: Website: allsaintsspringfield.org EASTER DAY 2016 FROM THE RECTOR Easter The day on which we rejoice in our Lord s resurrection is, of course, the Church s Great Feast of Feasts! This Easter we shall offer three opportunities to observe it. Two of these will be at our usual Sunday service times, 8:30 and 10:45. This year we will add to these opportunities something immensely rich -The Great Vigil of Easter. In the first several Christian centuries the faithful gathered on the evening before Easter Day for a vigil that lasted all night (ours will not!) - during which those who had long been preparing to begin their Christian life were baptized, all the faithful renewed their baptismal vows and the first Eucharist of the Easter season was celebrated with great joy. Ever since The Great Vigil has been for many the most powerful time of worship in the year! May it be so this year for many of us at All Saints! Our Easter Vigil will begin at 8:00pm on March 26th, Easter Eve. It will last about two hours - for an Easter Vigil that is short! Many who attend the Vigil may choose to join us for one of the next day s Easter services. I add that there will be no obligation to do so - The Great Vigil will be for many the most powerful observance of Easter possible! JDM+

3 THE BISHOP IS COMING! By Father Doug As most of us know, Archbishop Duncan, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh and thus our Bishop, will be with us for several days this week. On Sunday, February 28 he will preach at the 8:30 a.m. service and preach and confirm at our service at 10:45. This latter will be followed by a potluck in the Parish Hall in his honor. Recently someone asked me, Why all this big deal about a bishop? I answered as follows: To begin with we are Anglicans and thus we are supposed to make every Bishop a big deal! But Archbishop Duncan s visit this weekend will almost certainly be his last with us and we owe some very special thanks to him! Why so? (1.) He was willing to receive us as a congregation in his diocese. (2.) Twice he has visited us for confirmation. (3.) He travelled here to join us in breaking ground for our new church building and again to consecrate it when it was completed. (4.) He came here to ordain Father Ben as priest. (5.) He read and approved our parish bylaws. (6.) His advice and counsel has at several times been invaluable. So Yes, His coming to us this Sunday is a big deal! CALLED TO MINISTER EMPOWERED TO SERVE by the CMES Team First, please remember the drive that we are holding through Lent in conjunction with Ozark Food Harvest which runs through March 24. Place your donations of canned or pouches of Tuna, Mackerel or Salmon in the boxes provided in the Church Entryway and Parish Hall. Next, there is more information on the Convoy of Hope Community Event scheduled for May 7 at Ozark Empire Fairgrounds for which volunteers are still needed. You can find information and online volunteer forms on their website convoyofhope.org/ outreach/springfield for this outreach in North Springfield. In addition, there is a VOLUNTEER RALLY on May 6 at 7:00 PM, for which no registration is necessary, and it will also be held at the Fairgrounds. Please consider this opportunity to reach out into an impoverished area and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

4 WOMEN AT ALL SAINTS by Georgia Long As we are just about to finish our study on Horizontal Jesus, we have shared that it seems clearer than ever the importance of some of the key study points. Here are just a few: Jesus gave us the command to love God (our vertical relationship) and to love one another (our horizontal relationships). This reflects a vital connection between our personal relationship with God and with others. In living out our Christian lives together, He empowers us to be His hands and feet. We, as the body of Christ can and are to be more than a Sunday Morning assembly called to be a gathering of people willing to invest spiritually into the lives of others. Vessels of God s blessing to those around us, and to those in need. This study has given us much to prayerfully consider as to how we individually and corporately apply what we see in Scripture and through the study on a daily basis. We are fully aware of the empowerment Christ gives us through the Holy Spirit to do what we care called to do as we respond to the Great Commission in practical as well as spiritual ways. On March 7 for our session together we will have a Lenten Experience as we look together at the Seven Last Words of Jesus. This will be open to all the women of our church family. Please consider joining us from 12:15 2:30 PM for this special session. Our next study series entitled JOSEPH, The Journey of Forgiveness will begin on March 14 at our usual time in the Parish Hall. The 6 Week Study Guide is available for purchase at Lifeway Christian Bookstore in the Primrose Shopping Center. Please consider joining us for this next series as we once again gather to do as it says in 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 5 SWEETHEART NIGHT 2016 AMBASSADORS FOR CHILDREN by Georgia Long As one of the partnering groups that supports the Ministry of Ambassadors for Children, and Adopt-a-Caseworker, 8 members of All Saints Church once again attended the annual fundraiser that was held at Highland Springs Country Club. With the cash match of up to $25,000 that is offered by a Springfield couple, they were able to meet the goal of $50,000. The foster family couple that shared that night had an amazing story of their experience as foster parents. They would perhaps not see what they do as amazing, but as we listened to how many foster children s lives they have impacted, it is truly a ministry of love to children who need to know that someone cares and that they can be valued in spite of difficult circumstances surrounding their lives. This event is held every year in February and it is the hope of this year s attendees that next year more of our Church family will sense that call to attend and support this valuable ministry. MEN S BIBLE STUDY Men s Bible study is Saturday mornings beginning at 8:00am and is located in the Christian Education Wing. The current study is on Hebrews. LENTEN FAST If a pagan asks you why you are fasting, do not tell him that it is because of Lent or because of the mystery of the cross. If you tell him that, you give him an ample grip upon you. Tell him we fast because of our sins and because we are going to approach the mysteries. Holy Week (which Lent ushers us toward) is not a reason for fasting or grief; it is a reason for cheerfulness and joy. The cross has taken away sin; it was an expiation for the world. a reconciliation for the ancient enmity. It opened the gates of heaven, changed those who hated into friends; it took our human nature, led it up to heaven, and seated it at the right hand of God's throne. And it brought to us ten thousand other blessings. There is no need, then, to grieve or be downcast: we must rejoice and glory in all these things. This is why Paul said: "But God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." If, then, the cross is the basis of our boast, let us not say that it is a cause for grief. Heaven forbid that we grieve because of the cross. We grieve for our sins, and this is why we fast. John Chrysostom (d. 407)

6 EASTER SUNDAY FUN! By For children, one through ten years of age, between services as well as following the late service, there will be lost eggs in need of being found! Two different locations will be used so that little ones can find eggs easily. Three ten year olds will be lead to another patch to hunt! Gather in the hallway of the Christian Education Wing to join in. Bring a basket or bag! One Parent must accompany children or enlist another adult to oversee. The congregation is invited to bring real hard boiled or prize-filled plastic eggs to church on Palm Sunday (or early Easter Sunday morning) to go home with seekers who find them! There will be a table in the Parish Hall where you can leave the donated eggs. Call Kim if you have any questions! A TEACHING MEAL by Meet Dan Sered, a Jews for Jesus missionary from Israel! All ages welcome to attend CHRIST IN THE PASSOVER, A Teaching Meal. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 15 th at 6 p.m. Join in a very revealing and handson teaching of the Feast of Passover! Please sign up in the parish hall so we might have enough bread to break with YOU, and plan to bring a Mediterranean dish of your choosing to share.

Four Wednesday night gatherings, every other week: March 30th, April 13th, April 20th, and May 4th for dinner and fellowship in groups of 6-8 at different folks' houses, from 6.00pm-8.00pm (Keep your calendars open!) As always -- there will be childcare at the church from 5.30pm-8.30pm (Sharp!) Sign up will be March 6, March 13 and March 20 on the back table in the Narthex. Reminder: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE -- when you sign-up, consider hosting! We didn't have enough hosts last Gathering season and it almost didn't work. If you think "my house isn't nice enough" or "I'm not a good cook", consider that true fellowship is only possible when we let people into our lives -- to see the real "you". Hosting provides the opportunity to do this literally!
