3 SEXTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO QUESTION OF THE WEEK Step One: Listen to the Word As you hear this reading, what words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory? Step Two: Look into Your Life Question for Children: How do you experience God s blessing in difficult times, when you are sad, hungry, or when friends reject you? Question for Youth: How does trusting in God make a difference in your life? Question for Adults: In today s Gospel, we are reminded that we will be either blessed or have woe done unto us. It s a challenging teaching! Which half of this Gospel reading applies to you? BLESSED When we think of the word Beatitude we think of today s discourse from Luke s Gospel, or the more familiar one from Matthew (which begins Blessed are the poor in spirit... ). Actually, beatitudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John s Gospel, Christ proclaims, Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteristics that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteristics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the Blessed, for they are the ones who lived the blessed life as described by Jesus throughout the Gospels. How blest are we, when we also strive to make our own days a living beatitude! 5 17 DE FEBRERO DE 2019 SEXTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO Last weekend, Archbishop Gomez invited all Catholics to make their annual commitment to the 2019 Together in Mission Appeal. This year, St. Linus has been asked to raise $65,800, our 2019 PARISH GOAL. If you and your family have not had the opportunity to make your pledge, I ask that you complete a pledge card found in the pews, or make your pledge online by visiting the Together in Mission Website (found on the St. Linus website). Your gifts to Together in Mission ensure that every Catholic living in the Archdiocese has a parish to celebrate their faith and access to a Catholic school education. You are living your faith through your actions when you support Together in Mission. Sacrament of Matrimony Group Weddings at St. Linus If you are currently in a civil marriage, but were not married in the Catholic Church, you can receive the Sacrament of Matrimony (marriage convalidation). St. Linus invites couples into the life of the Church and continue to bless them on their journey by celebrating regularized unions with group weddings (recognizing numerous convalidations in one celebration), which can also lessen the financial burden for couples. Group Weddings will take place on November 16, 2019 at 10:00 AM. The fee is $ This will be a bilingual mass. A wedding reception will take place in the Parish Center Patio, following the ceremony. The celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage can be a truly enriching and wonderful experience. Their weight is approaching 2 pounds. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving.
