3 Page Three Pope John XXIII Church, Liverpool, New York September 17, 2017 Communion Services There will be Communion Services this Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the regular Mass times due to Fr. O Brien being at the Annual Priest Convocation at Alexandria Bay. The Communion Services are approved celebrations on the Word and Holy Communion in the absence of a priest. Communion services will be conducted by either Elizabeth Fallon, the Director of Faith Formation here at Pope John XXIII or Larry Messina a parishioner who is in the program to become a Deacon in the Church. Men s Choral/Barbershop Quartet Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Anyone interested in becoming a Catholic or who wants to discern if Catholicism is for them in invited to an introductory session of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) on Saturday 16th after the 5:00 PM Mass or Sunday, September 17th after the 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM Masses in the Church Parlor. The process of becoming a Catholic is open to anyone beginning in the fall and culminating with the celebration of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil. If you know of someone who might be interested family member, friend or neighbor, please invite them to a session. Anyone with questions about the process is asked to call Mrs. Fallon at th Annual Syracuse Catholic Women s Conference Pope John XXIII Church will hold a Men s Choral/Barbershop Quartet performance on Sunday, September 17th from 2:00-3:00 PM. Listen to and enjoy songs that will span the decades by a men s vocal group with phenomenal voices and harmonies. Pope John XXIII parishioner John Schramm will be among the performers. A free will offering to benefit the Food Bank of CNY is requested. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the parish center. Celebration of New Life There will be a special Celebration of Life on the weekend of October 1st at the 10:30 AM Mass. As part of the celebration there will be a special prayer and blessing for all the infants/children baptized during 2017 and their families and parents who are currently expecting a child. Those in attendance will be called forward for recognition and a blessing. A reception for the families will follow in the parish center. All are invited to join in this positive affirmation of God s beautiful gifts of life on this Respect Life Weekend. In affirming the dignity of life we continue to call all to respect and protection of all life from the moment of conception to natural death. We join in this public affirmation and inclusive support of our faith community for our most recent parishioners as a powerful witness in support of all life. Pope John XXIII will be reserving pre-paid Tables for Ten again this year at the 8th Annual Syracuse Catholic Women s Conference at the OnCenter on October 28th. Call the parish office at to reserve your ticket for ONLY $25 - less than half the price of a regular ticket! ($70 at the door if space allows.) The theme this year is In Search of a Servant s Heart. Speakers include best selling author Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC; Sr. Ignatia Henneberry, OSF, Youth Minister; and Michael Dopp, President & Founder of the New Evangelization Summit. The United Nations Pilgrim Virgin Statue of the Lady of Fatima and 1st class relics of Sts. Jacinta & Francisco Marto will be at the Conference to commemorate the centennial of Our Lady s appearances in Fatima. Register with payment at Pope John XXIII Parish Office. Higher Ground Support Group Are you Separated? Divorced? Do you know someone who is? Higher Ground is a Support Group of people that have experienced separation and or divorce. We empathize, listen and share our stories. No matter where in the journey you are, we invite you to join a group of your peers. Our meetings are informal, relaxed and pressure free. The fees have been suspended again this year. Make up classes for Grade 3-8 will be on Sunday mornings twice a month at 9:15-10:15 AM in Room 8/10. Classes start backup the end of September. Class dates are available on the website. We are still in need of Catechists! We need catechists especially for Grade 3 & 4, Grade 7 & 8. If you can help please call the Faith Formation Office. Prayer Shawl Ministry The State Fair is over, the kids are back to school, so it must be time to pick up your knitting needles and crochet hooks and get back to making items for charity. There are probably several of you that have never stopped making items for the needy year round. Pope John XXIII Prayer Shawl Ministry members are encouraged to come to our first meet and greet for the volunteer year. We will be meeting on Wednesday, September 20th, at Wegman s on Rt. 31 in the Café. Wegman s has agreed to allow us to come in to the Café and knit or crochet from 6:30-8:00 PM. If anyone has any new ideas for making items that can be donated to those who are sick or infirmed, bring those ideas with you or, if you have any favorite patterns that you are willing to share, bring them along also. Someone from the Pastoral Outreach to the Homebound Ministry will contact you to set up a visit. The 2017 HOPE Appeal Our parish campaign for the HOPE Appeal is under way with returns of 290 pledges and donations in the amount of $45, 483. Our parish goal is $53,218. All parishioners are urged to participate to the level they are able as the goal is really assessment. The parish will have to pay the difference between the goal and our pledges and donations. Pledge envelopes should be returned in the collection or by mail to the office.
