2 From e Pastor October 4, Sunday in Ordinary Time - B We build on Pope Francis words on God s gift of Matrimony by prayerfully pondering e ree Nuptial Blessings in e Roman Missal; for e most part ey speak for emselves - and are long - so I will add comments after each one in a footnote style. Each has a parenetical section omitted for ose past childbearing age, and two have a section omitted outside of Mass, when Holy Communion is not offered. Like me, you may be amazed at eir firm biblical base. Pray ese blessings for all who are married and, if applicable, for yourself and your spouse. Nuptial Blessing - I Dear broers and sisters, let us humbly pray to e Lord at on ese his servants, now married in Christ, he may mercifully pour out e blessing of his grace and make of one heart in love (by e Sacrament of Christ s Body and Blood) ose he has joined by a holy covenant. O God, who by your mighty power created all ings out of noing, and, when you had set in place e beginnings of e universe, formed man and woman in your own image, making e woman an inseparable helpmate to e man, at ey might no longer be two, but one flesh, and taught at what you were pleased to make one must never be divided; [1] O God, who consecrated e bond of Marriage by so great a mystery at in e wedding covenant you foreshadowed e Sacrament of Christ and his Church; [2] O God, by whom woman is joined to man and e companionship ey had in e beginning is endowed wi e one blessing not forfeited by original sin nor washed away by e flood. [1] ONE OF GOD S FIRST GIFTS TO HUMANITY. This blessing brims wi e biblical basis for e Sacrament of Matrimony, which is also e source of e Church s unwavering teaching about and celebration of is sacred union. God literally programmed is ideal into us, for until recently, almost every culture, even ose unaware of God or His precepts, made e union of one man, one woman until dea do em part, sacrosanct. Do we accept marriage as God intended it, as one of His Original Gifts? [2] MARRIAGE MIRRORS CHRIST S LOVE FOR US. Saint Paul gave Marriage an even higher dignity by using it as an analogy to express how Christ loves His Bride, e Church. For as a chivalrous husband does anying to protect his beloved, even to dea - so Christ loves us, His Church! [3] GOD CAN SAVE ANY MARRIAGE. Two of e worst disasters to befall us were Adam and Eve s fall into sin and e Flood in Noah s day, but as is blessing notes: wi God s help, every marriage also can, wi His grace, survive every spiritual or natural disaster! [4] OPPOSITES DO ATTRACT. The last half of e blessing highlights God s plan at a man and woman are radically equally and quite different, ey are mutually complementary in love. 6 Calling All Adults!!! You have a singer wiin! Our St. Mary s Adult Choir is having an OPEN HOUSE. Please come to our evening rehearsal on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30pm downstairs in e Parish Center. This is not an audition. It s an opportunity to see how we rehearse and enjoy some fellowship wi us. Maybe you ll even discover your inner musician! We will rehearse for about an hour and en enjoy some coffee and light refreshments during which time you can speak to Gerry and members of e adult choir about is ministry. The time commitment is probably less an you ink and you don t need to know how to read music to join. The adult choir rehearses one night a week on Wednesdays and sings at e 9am mass on Sundays during e school year plus some special services and is off during e summer. How much time can you dedicate to such an endeavor one Sunday a mon? Two? The whole mon? Come find out if is ministry could enrich your life as you add to e beautiful music at Saint Mary. They say at singing is praying twice. Singing, like exercise, also releases endorphins at make you feel great. And our choir is lot of fun which reduces e stress and tensions of e week.
