What are they? Why do we sing and chant them in church? The Psalms are conversations conversations with God. In the Psalms we observe men talking with God. Their griefs, sorrows, fears, hopes and cares are all laid bare. Psalm 16 Psalm 16 begins as a PSALMS ON-LINE In his article this month, the Rector writes about the Psalms. David does not ask God for protection from some specific danger but he wants God to be his keeper all his life long. David uses three different names for God Jehovah (personal name), El (strong and mighty in whom we take refuge) and Adonai (earthly Lord as well as God). In verse 3 we are warned against creating idols for ourselves because when we start this there is no limit to the number of gods we can have in our lives. The Psalmist tells us not to "shop around" for other gods to worship. One of the words in verse 3 can mean "obtain in exchange". Unfortunately due to the lateness of Easter this year, it has not been possible to have the Financial Report ready to be distributed with this magazine, but hopefully it will be with the June edition. PRINCESS VICTORIA DISASTER he sinking of the Princess Victoria on 31 T January 1953, with the loss of 135 lives, was the worst disaster in the waters off the British Isles. In this detailed and sensitive account, Stephen Cameron painstakingly recounts how the tragedy unfolded, from the construction of the vessel to the final heart-rending search for survivors after that vessel was no more. The author also poses the question which for over 50 years has haunted the survivors and the relatives and friends of those who were lost: Was this a tragedy that could have been avoided? 6 Big Breakfast OUR BIG BREAKFAST takes place on Saturday 13th May 9.00 am 12 noon Please support us by coming along and having a superb breakfast! All proceeds to church funds and still only 4.00 each and still the... n a couple of weeks time, I members of the Federation of Stedfast Associations will be holding their annual conference in Belfast. On Sunday 14th May, at our 11.30am church service, the delegates and members of The Bugles & Drums of The Stedfast Association (England) will parade to our church. I would ask that many members of the congregation attend that morning, as the Federation will be joining us. The Bugles & Drums of The Stedfast Association will be performing at the Titanic Centre on Saturday 13th May as follows: 1.20pm & 4.00pm. (These times are approximated.) William McMillan Captain 1st Irish Family Worker update. W e are continuing the Well- Being course on Wednesday mornings with our Women's group which meets in the hall from noon each week. Anyone interested in joining will be very welcome. Parents and toddlers meet on a Thursday morning from noon in the hall and is open to any pre-school children and their parents/carers. Alison Ladies Guild W h a t a n i n s p i r a t i o n a l e v e n i n g w e experienced when we welcomed Mrs Linda King to our March meeting. Linda s topic was God s perfect wardrobe, and it was based round Col 2:12-14, where St Paul tells us: Therefore, as God s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, c l o t h e y o u r s e l v e s w i t h compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. At the end of her talk, Linda presented each of us with a lovely coathanger, so that when we open our wardrobes, we will be reminded about our clothing of righteousness. On 10th May, we are opening our meeting to everyone as we will be welcoming Mr Stephen Cameron to give his talk on the ill-fated Princess Victoria which sank in the Irish Sea in Many of you will rem ember Stephe n s excellent talk on the Titanic a few years ago and I know this evening will be of great interest to many of our parishioners.
