Although the present diocese is only 50 years old, the origins of the Church in Monterey can be traced to the original Diocese of Monterey of the mid-1800 s, and even before that, to the mission era of the 1700 s. Grace upon Grace: A History of the Diocese of Monterey in California is an Attempt to briefly chronicle the rich history of the Catholic faith in these lands. This book is divided in two parts: The History of the Diocese and The Parishes of the Diocese. We have a few of these books left. If you are interested, you may purchase in the parish office for $25.
