2 From the Pastor s Pen God of love and power, we know that you are with us and you are for us. Break through into our lives and into your church. Amen. Dear Friends: I have enjoyed the warm temperatures and gentle breezes of late, but winter is s ll with us un l March 20 when spring arrives. Hopefully March will be kind and gentle like February; we ll soon find out. The season of Lent begins with our Ash Wednesday service on March 1 st at 6:30 pm. Tradi onally we observe Lent with prayer and fas ng, me for reflec on and sacrifice. Perhaps this year our Lenten prac ce will include a call to prayer, reflec on on scripture and medita- on. Several studies are coming available and a daily reading will be posted on our website so that wherever you are, you can make me for prayer, scripture reading and reflec on. Our sermon series during Lent is Fruit of Living Faith. I hope you will find it inspiring. A big thank you to everyone who donated to our Benevolence Fund that pays u lity bills and emergency events that are presented by walk-in and referred residents of Wentzville. Our Children s Offering in December, memorial gi s honoring Steve Shelton and a quarterly gi from Mary Martha Thri Store totaled $6,145. Thank you our Benevolence Fund helps those in need who would otherwise suffer. Our Children s Offering during Lent will benefit the Heritage Back Pack ministry. Currently 114 children at four Wentzville schools benefit from these resources. Teams of packers, delivery and supply have been working all school year to provide food for children who are hungry. 3 Living For God Worship & Distribution of Ashes Wednesday, March 1 at 6:30 pm In the church Sanctuary Music, Worship and The Lord s Supper April 13, 2017 We re searching for Volunteers to play the part of the Disciples in our Maundy Thursday service of music and worship. During a drama depic ng The Lord s Supper, each reader will have a short monologue which will need to be memorized. The readings will be interspersed with music and the evening will end with Holy Communion. Interested? Check the Sunday Connect Card! Our Gospel Jam Concerts on the 4th Saturday of the month are hosted by No Strings Attached Dan Benwell, Jim Collins and Jeff Davis. A community addendum to the concerts is their Mainstream Music Ministry. They perform at Friendship Brewing Company in Wentzville. Joining them on vocals are Traci and Rachel. No Strings A ached has raised $1,200 to benefit Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County. They take nothing for themselves; every donated dollar in their p jar goes to Habitat. They hope to expand into other venues and con nue this amazing outreach. Thanks for a job well done We salute you! 3

4 Loving Your Neighbor United Methodist Women meets in the church Café at 12 noon on Thursday, 3/9 for a potluck lunch and program. Maxine Carroll and her granddaughter Kellie Carroll will present a program on Hai. Kellie is a respiratory therapist and will tell us about her me in Hai. Hostesses are Elaine Gilmore and Bonnie Thompson. First me to visit? No need to potluck please be our guest! All women are invited to a end. Adopt-A-Family Ministry Wants You! Since 1998, the Adopt-A-Family Ministry of Wentzville UMC has served those in need. Throughout the year, we have assisted those less fortunate at Easter, Christmas and Backto-School. AAF is a self-governing, self-funding outreach ministry of WUMC, well-known throughout St. Charles County. We receive our funding through individuals, fundraisers (Golf Ou ng, Dinners), civic groups, businesses, etc. We are revamping our structure and would love to have you join us! Wednesday is now a regular work day for us so we work on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday and can really use your help! We enjoy great fellowship over dinner and then the li le ones enjoy a play date while the moms have a chance to just relax and talk. If you, a family member, neighbor or co-worker need a night like this please come! March Needs Pork and Beans Spaghetti Sauce Toilet Paper No glass containers thanks so much!...to The Men s Group who installed new outdoor spot light fixtures (LED) on the sanctuary roof, replacing the halogen ligh ng. The lights shine on the cross....to Joe Tebo and Bill Stone for their efforts in repairing the small water leaks in the church pond. We have found the area of the leaks and have begun the repair process. Yes, it is March! Your recycling efforts are greatly appreciated. Don t forget to recycle those old cell phones, laptops, harddrive towers, ink cartridges the net proceeds benefit Youth Group Mission Programs. Proceeds from aluminum cans benefit Caring and Sharing Food Pantry. 4

6 In this current school year, our Operation Backpack Program is sending a total of 114 bags per week to four Wentzville schools: Heritage Primary and Intermediate Lakeview Elementary Wentzville Middle Pearce Hall (the high school for alterna ve learning) Wentzville United Methodist Church also sends 40 snacks per week to Heritage Special Ed classes, and every three weeks we provide 40 breakfasts to Pearce Hall. Weekend bags of food contain 11 items. For example, the first week menu includes milk, hot chocolate, oatmeal, dry cereal, a box of macaroni and cheese, a can of vegetable soup, 2 fruit cups, a can of corn, a fruit snack, and a bag of Cheez-its. This is enough for 2 breakfasts and lunches plus a sweet and a salty snack. The snack items for the special ed classes are either a granola bar, cheese crackers, or a fruit snack. Breakfast for Pearce Hall includes a granola or protein bar and a box of 100% juice. Thanks to all the volunteers who help with this project. They include one family who uses this opportunity as a mission project, the church's Youth Group, and at least 19 other volunteers who pack and deliver these items. We welcome anyone who is interested to contact Jean St. Clair or Carolyn Shaw and we will be sure to get you involved in working with this project.
