3 Today s Meditation BLESSED When we think of the word Beatitude we think of today s discourse from Luke s Gospel, or the more familiar one from Matthew (which begins Blessed are the poor in spirit... ). Actually, beatitudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrection in John s Gospel, Christ proclaims, Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteristics that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteristics that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In Latin, the saints are called the Beati, the Blessed, for they are the ones who lived the blessed life as described by Jesus throughout the Gospels. Mt. 25:40 The Felician Sisters of South Carolina, together with the Board of Directors of the Felician Center, invite you to join them for a Lenten Pilgrimage of Prayer and Mercy on March 16, This pilgrimage to Kingstree, South Carolina and to the Felician Center is a unique opportunity for those from around the Diocese of Charleston to associate themselves through prayer and service with the mission and ministry of the Felician Center. The pilgrimage will begin at 11 am with Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of South Carolina-Our Lady of Joyful Hope celebrated by Fr. Christopher Smith, Pastor of Prince of Peace, Taylors and conclude at 5 pm. Participants will hear talks on the spirituality and vision of Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, learn more about the work of the Felicians here in South Carolina, and render acts of service by helping in the clothing closet, food pantry, or other ministry area. Prayers for Blessed Angela s intercession for specific needs and a blessing with her relics will be offered for all. En realidad, las bienaventuranzas ocurren en los profetas y evangelios. Hoy, en Jeremías (con un eco en el salmo) oímos: Bendito el hombre que confía en el Señor (Jeremías 17:7). Luego de su resurrección en el Evangelio de san Juan, Cristo proclama: Dichosos los que creen sin haber visto! (Juan 20:29). Los evangelistas colocaron estos dichos por todos los evangelios como cortos recordatorios sobre las caracteríscas de quien sigue a Cristo, características que ayudarán a diseminar la Buena Nueva en esta vida y llevarnos a la dicha eterna en la próxima. En latín, los santos son llamados Beati o Beatos porque son aquellos que viven la vida feliz descrita por Jesús en los evangelios.
