3 Today s Meditation PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST On Easter morning everything the spring weather, the flowers, birds and butterflies, the people around us in their finery, the beautiful liturgy and music everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the eyewitness accounts in today s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing Alleluia! In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. ANTHONY OF PADUA RELIC VISIT MONDAY, APRIL 9TH 9AM TO 1 PM There will be a short prayer service at 9am. The Franciscan Friars from Padua, Italy, invite you to join them in welcoming Saint Anthony of Padua to St. Anthony Catholic Church. St. Anthony will be visiting us in the form of two precious and first class relics from the Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy. The relics will be accompanied by Fr. Bortolino Maistrello, a Franciscan Friar from Padua, Italy, where the Saint is buried. According to Fr Mario Conte, who is Editor of the Messenger of St Anthony, There is nothing superstitious about relics. The real meaning of a relic is love they are a link of love between the person who venerates and the saint. St Anthony intercedes with those trying to find a job, housing, faith, love, hope, harmony within the family, good health, peace of mind and mercy. Pope Emeritus Benedict said of relics By inviting us to venerate the mortal remains of the martyrs and saints, the Church does not forget that, in the end, these are indeed just human bones, but they are bones that belonged to individuals touched by the living power of God. The relics of the saints are traces of that invisible but real presence which sheds light upon the shadows of the world and reveals the Kingdom of Heaven in our midst. Prayer petitions with holy cards will be distributed by Friar Bortolino and volunteers to allow parishioners to write their prayer petition to the saint. The writing of a prayer petition is a worldwide tradition when venerating a relic of a saint. Father Bortolino will bring the petitions back to the Basilica in Padua and place them at the tomb of Saint Anthony. The tour officially ends back at the Tomb of Saint Anthony where the Friars will gather to pray for the saint s intercession upon our intentions and petitions. 5 DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY April 8, 2018 Prayer Service 3:00 pm in the Church My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. (Diary of St. Faustina, 699) Gain the Plenary Indulgence attached to attending this prayer service in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for sin, even venial sin, sacramental confession (within 20 days before or after), Holy Communion (preferable on the day or the days before or after), and prayer for the intentions of the Pope (certain prayers are not specified). HOLY COMMUNION: All Catholics who have made their First Holy Communion are bound to receive Holy Communion during the Easter time. Easter Time is from the First Sunday of Lent until Pentecost Sunday. Mark your calendars now for the annual St. Anthony Run for the Heroes event. This year, school is being held in Florence School District One, as a make-up snow day, on the official Memorial Day.
