For more information, please call Leticia at (916) THE MARIAN GUILD WELCOMES FR. SERGIO PEREZ, OSJ Fr. Sergio Perez, OSJ, our St. Joseph Marello Parish Historian, was the guest speaker at the Marian Guild monthly meeting on November 27 th. Fr. Sergio spoke on the history of the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose Feast Day is celebrated on December 12th. She appeared in Mexico as the pregnant Mother of God to Blessed Juan Diego, an Aztec Indian, on December 9, 10, and 12, She left a miraculous image of Her appearance on his cactus fiber cloak, or tilma, which still exists today for all to see in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Fr. Sergio explained the symbolism found throughout the image and emphasized that the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe showcases one of the most stunning visitations by Our Blessed Mother in the world. The apparitions resulted in the conversion of Mexico, Central, and South America to Catholicism and brought an end to many of the ancient Aztec traditions practiced at the time (human sacrifice, deity adoration, etc.). The Guild meets monthly and invites all women of the Parish to join our ministry. Contact Ann Whitman, Membership Chair (acwhitman@comcast. net/ ) or Linda Van Rees, President (LVANREES@ sbcglobal.net/ ) for more information.
