2 St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church May 29, 2016 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ "And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets." Today's Gospel shows us that Jesus wants to do more than satisfy our needs. He wants to give us an experience of fullness and abundance. He not only miraculously fed the crowd of thousands; he also provided enough to make a mountain of leftovers. More than they needed, more than they ever expected. That's what Jesus gave. And it's what he continues to give us every time we receive the Eucharist. This too is a miraculous meal. Like the multiplication of "five loaves and two fish," Jesus turns something small--bread and wine--into something abundant and overflowing: his body, blood, soul, and divinity. Through this sacrament we experience the gift of union with Jesus and the resulting graces that come from encountering him. Just like the crowds gathered that day in a deserted place, we come to Jesus with our emptiness--our needs, our weaknesses, our fears--and he fills us up until we too are "satisfied." The prayer after Communion on today's feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us that what we experience at Mass is a foretaste of that ultimate satisfaction that we will experience in heaven: "Grant, O Lord, we pray, that we may delight for all eternity in that share in your divine life, which is foreshadowed in the present age by our reception of your precious Body and Blood." Receiving the Lord in the Eucharist is a momentous miracle and an earthly glimpse into heaven. May today's celebration help remind us to be ever grateful for this most glorious gift. Edith Road. There are separate registration forms for First Communion, Confirmation & all other grade levels. Please be mindful of this when filling out the forms. Please return them as soon as possible. Whether or not we are aware of it, grief calls forth a Brave Heart in all of us. Being brave means being honest about difficult feelings and being willing to share those feelings with other children who are also grieving. The camp will provide a safe place for Brave Hearts to freely share such difficult feelings through fun activities. Campers will participate in activities such as: rock ritual, letter writing, art, balloon release ritual, honor parade & memory box. The camp is for ages 7 to 11, cost $15.00 (includes lunch, snacks, art supplies, etc.). It will be held August 4th & 5th, from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. All applications must be received by July 1st! 4 Padre Pio Prayer Group meets at the Cathedral of St. John every 3rd Monday of the month at 11:00 a.m. A rosary is said including intentions, the Padre Pio Prayer, Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Padre Pio song is the order of the prayer group schedule. We finish about 11:25 a.m. For those who can we invite you to stay for the Mass at 12:05. No dues or requests for offerings. No roll is taken. This is strictly a prayer group. If you are interested just bring your rosary and join us at the Cathedral of St. John. Holy Hour for Vocations Please join us for our monthly Holy Hour for Vocations and for the Spiritual Renewal of All Priests on Monday, June 6th, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 E. Pinhook Road. Recitation of the Rosary begins at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to join in these prayers for vocations and perseverance of vocations to the priesthood and religious life, sponsored by the Serra Club of Lafayette. Food for the Journey a monthly lunchtime speaker series designed to help Catholics live out our faith in our daily lives. Our speaker for June is Rev. William Ruskoski, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Broussard. Camp will be held July 4th-8th and July 11th-15th, from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. daily at the Deaf Action Center located in Village Du Lac off of the Breaux Bridge Hwy at 1404 Carmel Drive.
