Deceased Members of the Murphy & Duncan Families Rosary Prayed before Daily Mass Novena Monday after Daily Mass The month of November is the time when the Church traditionally recalls those who have gone before us. We mourn their loss, we pray for their souls, we hope to be reunited with them when we ourselves die. As it is the end of the liturgical year (it will begin anew in two weeks with Advent), we also bring the end of time. Though we cannot know the day nor the hour, our trust and hope are in the Lord. In today s Gospel, Jesus compels His disciples to be watchful for the coming of the Son of Man, for they know not the hour or the day that the Lord will appear. The apocalyptic urgency with which Mark s Gospel communicates our need for vigilant watchfulness can instill a sense of anxiety, even a sense of impending doom. It can sound as though Jesus is expecting us to stand, jaws and fists clenched, paralyzed by fear for the coming of the Son of Man. The word vigilante comes to mind. Yet, our call to watchful attentiveness need not be so driven by fear. It can be lived out in gentle acts of noticing and attending to others needs. Just think of the many different vocations that demand alert attentiveness in a spirit of gentleness. Teachers are attentive to the learning and the struggles of each student. Nurses and doctors are attentive to the needs of their patients. Farmers are attentive to the changing seasons, to the crops, to the land. There are various ways we human beings live out this call to watchfulness, to attentiveness. We cannot know when the world will end, just as we do not know when our own worldly end will arrive. Therefore, we must always be ready. But we can be consoled in the redemptive sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. As we heard in Hebrews, those who are made holy are made perfect forever. Jesus has enabled us to be worthy of being gathered by God at the end of time. QUESTION OF THE WEEK: How does not knowing when the end will come change the way I live my life? Our Parish Community comes together to show our gratitude to a loving God who has blessed us with so much. To celebrate God s goodness, we invite you to bring non-perishable food items as your offertory gift. At the Offertory, we will come and place our gifts of food around the altar. The food will be used to feed our brothers and sisters in need. Most needed items are: pasta, rice, canned meats, peanut butter, canned spaghetti sauce and soup. The Lend-a Hand bags are available at the entrances to the Church. DIOCESE OF ST. PETERSBURG 2018 ST. JUDE MEDAL Congratulations to Janet Nassif who will receive the St. Jude Medal this weekend at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle in St. Petersburg. Janet has given many years of service to our Eucharistic, Lector, Sacristan and Altar Server Ministries. She also dedicates herself as a representative of St. Brendan to the hospital ministry at Morton Plant Hospital on a weekly basis. Janet is a wonderful volunteer who never hesitates to say yes when help is needed. Janet willingly serves at Funeral Masses and Receptions and has a deep love for St. Brendan Church and she is truly an example of how an individual can spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by one s actions and love of their faith. She is indeed worthy of this most distinguished recognition for her loyal service to the Faith Community of St. Brendan. CCW Fall Bake Sale This Weekend at All Masses Thank you for your support! Adult Faith Development Thank you to everyone who attended and welcomed Reverend Rhonda Blevins, Pastor of Chapel by the Sea, to our last Adult Faith Development Presentation for this year. Reverend Blevins gave us a wonderful overview of her journey of faith to becoming a pastor, the extraordinary programs her congregation undertakes in our community, and an interest in fostering a closer relationship with St. Brendan on some future projects. This was exactly what Vatican II and our Pope Francis have espoused for the laity, us! So this season has drawn to a close and plans are underway for Please watch for future announcements.

Baptism Please contact the Parish Office to arrange for Baptism Preparation and to schedule a Baptism. Baptisms are not celebrated during the Lenten season. Marriage Couples are required to contact the Parish Office to make arrangements at least six to eight months in advance of the planned date. Anointing of the Sick Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to receive the Sacrament. For anointing following our daily Mass, please call the Parish Office a day ahead. Hospital Admission If you are admitted to the hospital, please have a friend or family member notify the Parish Office for visits and prayers for you. Communion for the Sick & Homebound Please contact the Visitation Ministry in the Parish Office to arrange to have Holy Communion brought to your home, nursing home or hospital. Parish Registration Please register with us so we may include you in our faith community. You may get a registration form from one of the ushers or in the Parish Office during regular business hours.
