Sincerely in Christ, Dear Friends in Christ, First of all, I would like to commend you for your generosity to the hurricane relief funds. For the victims of Hurricane Harvey your offerings totaled $7,716. Then came Irma and, following Irma, Maria. The collection we received last week totaled $14,285. Knowing that many of you have also given in other ways to assist those affected, I think it is important to recognize the Christian spirit of solidarity behind your giving over $22,000. And I share your gratitude that our fair city and general area were spared what could have been much worse. Thank you!! If you have a moment, please take a look at the shrine that has been freshly landscaped in honor of our parish patron, St. Michael the Archangel. It is located on the outside rear wall of the Cenacle and is nearly finished. What remains is to elevate the statue for greater visibility. Behind the statue, on the Cenacle wall, we plan to paint the words: Saint Michael the Archangel, Pray for Us. We also will place the memorial plaque to acknowledge those involved in bringing the project to fruition. When it is entirely complete, we will have a dedication. Finally, in this week s bulletin (and last s) is the announcement of the ordination of Mr. Paul Koppie to the Diaconate by the Most Reverend Bishop Gregory Parkes, next Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. Anyone can attend the ordination but carpooling is recommended. Also, as announced, Paul will assist at the 11:00 am Mass here at St. Michael s on Sunday morning, October 8th, with a reception in the Cenacle immediately following. We were excited to learn that Paul will serve as a deacon here at St. Michael s, not only because we have no other deacon assigned to our parish, but also because of the fact that he and his wife Teri have served St. Michael s in so many ways in the 35 years they have been part of our parish. I am grateful that the Bishop is assigning him here. TODAY IS RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY There will be a Holy Hour for Life immediately following the 11AM BLESSING OF ANIMALS Our annual Blessing of Animals will take place today, Oct. 1st, at 5:00 PM, at the flagpole outside Church. JOIN OUR FAMILY CHOIR! Would you like to be part of the 9:30 choir and also sit with your family at Mass? Well, then bring the whole family to the choir loft to sing praises to God! The 3rd Sunday of every month starting in October will feature the Family Choir at the 9:30 Mass. Imagine what a blessing it would be to sing with your daughter(s) and/or son(s) together as a family along with other families to help lead the congregation in song and praise to our Lord. The first rehearsal for Family Choir will take place Wed., October 11th, at 6:30-8:30 in the church in preparation for Mass on October 15th. Exposition begins immediately after the 8 a.m. Mass and concludes with Benediction at 6:45 p.m. A Holy Hour for vocations that includes prayers, the rosary and a litany is prayed aloud in English from 6-6:45 p.m. and again in Spanish from 7-8 p.m. Volunteers who keep vigil on Wednesdays before the exposed Blessed Sacrament are asked to sign up each week on the schedule sheets available in the church narthex, assuring that the Lord is never left unattended.
