Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time August 25 & 26, 2018 Living the Paschal Mystery Peter s response can be our own when faced with the overwhelming mystery of the gift of faith in the one sent from God. Yet, we should be humble with respect to this mystery, for the gift is not given to all, but only to those whom the Father grants it. In light of this it is all good to be patient with those who do not share our faith. And when another does come to faith we can be assured that it is not because of our wonderous evangelization, our dedication to a particular program, or our having memorized specific Scripture verses. God grants faith to those to whom he will. Even Jesus himself allowed many of his disciples (not merely the crowds) to return to their former way of life when his teaching seemed too hard. Our faith is not subject to scientific scrutiny after which a demonstrable proof will be accepted by a rational mind. Instead, faith is a gift. We can be thankful for this gift of faith that leads to eternal life. We can share it with others. But ultimately it is God the Father who is the giver. Once granted this gift, we, like the disciples, have no where to turn but to Jesus. In light of his challenging teachings, the response of Peter is our own. Communion to those unable to come to Mass If you, or a family member are not able to participate at Mass and would like to receive communion, please contact the parish office. Anointing of the Sick The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick brings the compassionate presence of Christ into the midst of the suffering of those who are ill, aging, or preparing for minor /serious surgery. If you would like to be anointed, please contact the parish office. The faithful should be encouraged to ask for the anointing, and, as soon as the time for the anointing comes to receive it with faith and devotion - Rite of Anointing Page 2-306

Social Justice Reflection Sunday August 26, Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time ] the Christ is not exclusively the glorified Jesus, but the glorified Jesus animating his body which is the Church. Christ said to Paul Why do you persecute me? (Acts 9:4) because the literal fact is that the Christ is composed of all the baptized. This means that Christ, in contrast to Jesus, is not male, or more exactly exclusively male. Christ is quite accurately portrayed as black, old, Gentle, female, Asian, Polish. We have moved the date for our festival to the weekend of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 14, 15, 16, 2018, in commemoration of the 50 th anniversary of the death of St. Pio of Pietrelcina. Our Festival is honored to publically exhibit for all pilgrims the private collection of relics of Padre Pio, which are normally housed in the Philadelphia Monastery of the Carmelite Sisters. The collection includes Padre Pio s glove, tunic, blood particles from his stigmata, and a cushion he used to kneel when praying for the sick. 5 Diocesan News Order your Sesquicentennial Custom Rosary before they are gone. A custom-designed, limited-edition, dark red and gold rosary is now available to commemorate the 150 th anniversary of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington. The rosaries, made in Italy by the Ghirelli Company, were blessed at the Vatican by Pope Francis on June 6, 2018 during His Holiness Weekly Audience in Saint Peter s Square. The Official Custom Rosary of the Diocese of Wilmington s 150 th Anniversary features a crucifix that is designed after the beautiful crucifix in the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Wilmington. The back of the crucifix is engraved with the words, Catholic Diocese of Wilmington 150 th Anniversary The front of the rosary s centerpiece holds an image of the Blessed Mother from the famous Charles Parks Our Lady of Queen of Peace statue located on the grounds of Holy Spirit Church in New Castle, Delaware. On the centerpiece s reverse, is an image of Saint Francis de Sales, the Patron Saint of the Diocese of Wilmington.
