Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 7 & 8, 2015 Living the Paschal Mystery We learn how to be good disciples from others who follow Jesus faithfully, who contribute to the good of all out of the surplus with which God has blessed them. The gospel holds up the poor widow as a model for the total self-giving of the true disciple. We need but look around us to find strong models for true discipleship. Nor is it a matter of these disciple-models giving large sums of money. Giving a bit of time each week for the good of another, participating in at least some parish activities beyond going to Mass and contributing to the collection basket, signing up when volunteers are needed are all ways of contributing a little, which makes a huge difference in overall parish life and community life. Even something can be our all. So, are we true disciples? -Living Liturgy First Friday Adoration Adoration is held from 9am - 10am on the first Friday of every month. All are welcome to join us in worshiping our Lord. If this is your first child you are required to attend a class before the Baptism can be scheduled. The next baptism class is December 10, 2015 at 7:00pm. Call the office to schedule. 3 Parish News St. Vincent de Paul Food Closet Thank you for your generous donations to satisfy the needs of the food closet. The items that are currently needed are mayonnaise, jelly, tuna, juice and gravy. Thank you for your generosity in helping to feed and care for the community. Thank you for your generosity. From the Religious Ed Office: The Religious Education Office fall newsletter was sent home this past week. It is also posted on the parish website. A reminder to join Remind All families who have children enrolled in any SMOS Religious Education program (RE, 9 th grade RE, Reconciliation & First Eucharist, Confirmation) should be subscribed for the Remind Notification System. Please refer to any newsletter, sacrament schedule, or page 2 of the SMOS Religious Education Parent Handbook for your class codes. First Reconciliation Meeting #2 is scheduled for tomorrow evening, November 9, at 6:30 pm in church. All candidates and at least one parent are asked to please attend. Completed Reconciliation books are due Nov. 20 & 22. Reconciliation who attend Tuesday RE can drop their books off when they come to Mass the weekend of Nov. 21 & 22. First Reconciliation Day is Saturday, December 5, with a prayer service starting at 10:00 am in church. Please report to church by 9:50 am that day. Religious Education Classes will not be held on Tuesday, November 24 or Sunday November 29, for the Thanksgiving Holiday A family in Bear is looking for occasional assistance with their four school age children (ages 6-10). Requirements include the ability to provide overnight care when both parents travel, oversee the completion of homework, preparing meals, and taking the children to and from school in Cecil County. Social Justice As is so often the case, Jesus calls us to see things from the viewpoint of the poor. Catholic Social Teaching talks about a fundamental option for the poor. Part of this option involves more than charity to those in need. It also involves learning from the poor, from the widows in the two readings today, so as to be able to create a justice society with our values in balance. The depth of faith and freedom about possessions shown by the two women today has much to teach us as individuals and a society.
