4 Faith Formation The Fall Adult Faith Formation series will begin on Sunday, November 4 and run through Sunday, December 9. Come join us in the on the northwest side of Kateri Hall (LSJ) at 9 am for coffee, breakfast delights, and fellowship. We discuss selections for our chosen book from 9:15-10:15 am. This Fall s book is Greg Boyle s Barking to the Choir. Please me at cocoosborne@creighton.edu by October 25 if you need of a book. Books will NOT be sold in bulk prior to November 4. For November 4, please have read the Introduction and Chapter 1. On the First Sunday of each month, during the 10:30AM mass, children ages 4-7 will be invited to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in a room just off of the church. During this time, we will proclaim the Word of God in kid-friendly language and follow it up with engaging conversation and activities. No registration or formal commitment is needed to join us. Lorna at lornahummel@creighton.edu with questions. Consolation Faith Sharing Group of St. John's is a Christian response to personal suffering and distress. It is a support group for people who are experiencing emotional pain from mental illness and for those who are caring for persons with this suffering. New people are always welcome to participate and discover this faith based support community. For more information, please contact Fr. Lorn Snow, S. J. in the parish office Our next meeting: Sunday, October 28, 3:00 p.m. LSJ s Celebrate Jesuit parish Life on December 1st with our annual St. Johns Service Day. Everyone and all ages are welcome to participate in Service Day. We have a large number of areas in the city in need of service on December 1st. Please complete the form and you will receive your service assignment two weeks before the actual service opportunity. This is a wonderful way to serve along with family and friends. At the end of your service everyone is invited back for the 5:00PM Mass and following the Mass dinner is provided in the Skutt Ballroom to celebrate Jesuit Parish Life. Join us for this great moment of outreach to our neighbors and Omaha. OTOC will be holding another Accountability Session to solicit Legislative Candidates responses to OTOC Action Teams concerns. Action Teams concerns are: housing, predatory pay day lending, environment, mental health and Medicaid expansion. These are the candidates who will attend: Leg. District 6 Candidate Candidate Machaela Cavanaugh 8 Theresa Thibodeau Mina Davis Visitors from Kohima In the next few weeks, nine visitors from the Kohima area of India will be arriving in Omaha for a 15 day stay. Our guests include seven teachers, parishioners and two Jesuits. Kohima is the area of India that includes our sister parish, Mater Dei. and that has been visited in the past by groups from St. John's. This visit is the second part of a Global Initiative Grant from Creighton University. The first half of the project had representatives from the Creighton University Education Department and St. John's parish spending time in the Kohima area last year working with teachers and working with parish representatives in establishing CLC (Christian Life Communities) groups in several remote parishes. While our guests are here there will be opportunities for the St. John's community to welcome them. 5 Parish Life Director: St. John s Catholic Church a Parish of the Archdiocese of Omaha on the Jesuit campus of Creighton University is seeking a full time Director of Parish Life. The primary responsibilities of this position is to enable ongoing parish life including faith formation, pastoral care, to collaborate with the liturgical formation of the community, and administration. To carry out the mission of the parish with the Pastor, the staff and the parishioners of St. Johns. Preferred candidates will have a Bachelors or Master Degree in the area of Theology, Pastoral care/ ministry or a parish ministry background. Experience working in a Parish setting is highly recommended. Familiarity with Ignatian spirituality and ongoing Christian Formation is greatly appreciated and celebrated at St. Johns. Money raised through this program is used for the school's Positive Time, which are activities that reward students exhibiting strong academic and personal behavior. Box Tops are collected the entire year. Please continue to deposit them in containers at entrances to the church. We appreciate your participation. Liturgy Children s Liturgy of the Word First Sunday of the Month, 10:30am Mass St. John s has begun a Children s Liturgy of the Word at the 10:30am Mass. Children under age 7 are invited to join in a side room at the parish during the Liturgy of the Word during Mass to hear the readings from the Children s Lectionary and break open the Word in a child-friendly way. They will rejoin the congregation at the Preparation of Gifts. Solemnity of All Saints Vigil Mass on October 31 at 5pm Mass on November 1 at 7:00am, Noon (music), and 5pm (music) The St. John s reliquary will be on display around the altar, as a visible reminder that we celebrate with the communion of saints. Feast of All Souls November 2 at 7:00am, Noon (music), and 5pm Before the noon Mass on All Souls, we will read aloud the names of all those people from the St. John s and Creighton University community who have died in the last year, that we may pray for and with them during the Mass.
