Larry Bailey I stopped in to visit Larry at U of MD hospital on Monday afer our reunion. If you would like to send a card or note, he is in Room NW70. He anticipates being there for a while for treatment. His 60th memento was delivered with the wish that he would be able to fill it and enjoy it soon! 3 Doris Holsinger Our son, Michael J Hilton, retired from the Marines with 30 years of service. His retirement was held in Frederick Md with a reception afterwards. Many of the Marines he served with were in attendance. Editor's Comment: Ooorah! Rodney Arnold's Pics From the Past

5 18th Annual North/South Closed Open The Open was held in Hagerstown in conjunction with the 60th Reunion of North/South Hagerstown High School Class of On Thursday at Black Rock Golf Club, the competition for the HENRY CUP ended in a tie between NHHS and SHHS. The Final score was SHHS 2 ½ - NHHS 2 ½. The competition continued on Friday with the five man team of Strock, Gossard, Carnes, Cianelli and Boyer from vs the five man team of Knode, Limburg, Dando, Thomas and Moser. The result was a win for the North team. The results of the 2 day individual competition are as follows: Closed Division Tie for 1st between Carnes, Knode & Limburg The tie breaker was won by Carnes with Knode 2nd and Limburg 3rd. Open Division 1st Place Thomas 2nd Place Limburg 3rd Place-Gossard

6 Pictures from the 60th North-South Reunion Door Prizes There were six door prizes, three carvings by Gary Stenger and three $100 gift certificates. Above are the lucky recipents of an exquisite carving by Gary.

There are a number of pictures and in order to keep this newsletter edition reasonable in size, I have created links on the home page. The Memorial Video that was played at the dinner is available to view from our web site by clicking on the pointer on the home page and then clicking on the pointer to the memorial video on the next page that pops up. EDUCATION SECTION EATING IN THE FIFTIES Pasta had not been invented. It was macaroni or spaghetti Curry was a surname. Taco? Never saw one till I was 15. Pizza? Sounds like a leaning tower somewhere. Bananas and oranges only appeared at Christmas time. All chips were plain. Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking. Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh. Chickens didn't have fingers in those days. None of us had ever heard of yogurt. Healthy food consisted of anything edible! Cooking outside was called camping. Seaweed was not a recognized food. 'Kebab' was not even a word, never mind a food. Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded as being white gold. Prunes were medicinal and stewed. Surprisingly Muesli was readily available. It was called cattle feed. Pineapples came in chunks or were round with a hole in the middle, in a tin; we had only ever seen a picture of a real one. Water came out of the tap. If someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than gasoline for it, they would have become a laughing stock

8 There were three things that we never ever had on/at our table in the fifties...elbows, hats and cell phones!!!!!! And there were always two choices for each meal... "Take it" or "Leave it"!!!!!!! ENTERTAINMENT SECTION EVOLUTION...and believe it or not...it's TRUE!!!
