September has also been a sad month at the Danube. We lost our chef Dianne El Amin who was our Director of Food Services and has chosen to leave Bradford for the big city to be near family and has left us without a cook for our monthly Birthday lunches. For now we have had to cancel them and we keep hoping that someone will step up and take over for even a month at a time. Our daily lunches of soup and sandwiches are still being served thanks to our many volunteers in the kitchen. We also were saddened by the sudden passing of Glenn Chantler. Glenn was our Director of Facilities for 2 terms on our board of directors. Glenn also over saw the walking club on Tuesday AM's, made many toys and wooden things in the work shop over the years. He will be missed around the Centre for sure. Be sure to keep all our activities in mind and attend when you can. Until next time.. Elaine Love President Freedom Of Information Act: News. To all Members, when you come in to renew your membership for 2018, we must now ask you to give us permission to photograph you, just in case we may wish to publish your picture in future newsletters which will be posted on our website. Please speak to a member of the executive if you have any questions about this at the time you are paying for next year. Jan Evans How to reach us! Fortunately, our summer clothes had not been put away and because of the lovely weather they were in demand again. Quite a few new items have been coming in, summer and winter, so make sure you drop in to see what is there for you. If you know of a new member, please take them to the Boutique and Craft room and show them around. I have been informed that some do not know of the back room. We are open Monday to Friday. 9 A.M. 3 P.M. We would like to thank all the people who support us by buying items and bringing things in. Just remember if you are bringing anything in, they must be clean, in good condition and free from odours such as cigarette smoke and perfumes. We appreciate your consideration. Hope you enjoy the fall weather and get a chance to see the beautiful colours of autumn. Olga Bishop To all our Members The native peoples of the Americas held ceremonies and festivals to celebrate the completion and bounty of the harvest long before European explorers and settlers arrived in what is now Canada. Early European thanksgivings were held to give thanks for some special fortune. An early example is the ceremony the explorer Martin Frobisher held in 1578 after he had survived the long journey in his quest to find a northern passage from Europe to Asia. Thanksgiving Day in Canada is linked to the European tradition of harvest festivals. A common image seen at this time of year is a cornucopia, or horn, filled with seasonal fruit and vegetables. The cornucopia, which means "Horn of Plenty" in Latin, was a symbol of bounty and plenty in ancient Greece. Turkeys, pumpkins, ears of corn and large displays of food are also used to symbolize Thanksgiving Day.

Your trusted Insurance Advisors AUTO, HOME, COTTAGE, BUSINESS, FARM 198 Holland Street, East, Bradford Ontario Phone: Toll Free: TUPLING THE BACK NINE You know... Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is The back nine of my life and it catches me by surprise How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first hole and the back nine was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like. But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit! And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though I'm on the back nine, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over.
5 A new and better adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TO- DAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY! HAVE A GREAT DAY! Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. LASTLY, CONSIDER THIS: Your kids are becoming you...but your grandchildren are perfect! Going out is good... Coming home is better! You forget names... But it's OK because some people forgot they even knew you!!! You realize you're never going to be really good at anything like golf. You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV 'ON' than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep". You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.. You tend to use more 4 letter words... "what?"..."when?"...??? Everybody whispers. But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!! Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!" It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN; YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS Drew Robinson Owner/Operator Joe Arrigo Owner/Operator 330 Holland St. W. Someone who will wear something just to look different, I said. I said. They ll often buy clothes in thrift shops and wear thick glasses. Is Grandma a hipster? he asked. A Grandmother s Wisdom. A beggar approaches a grandmother at the beach with his hands out. Please, Senora, the poor man pleads, I haven t eaten all day. Good, says the grandmother. Now you won t have to worry about cramps when you go for a swim. High Hopes. I ve always been a disappointment. When I was five, I looked down at the crayons I was coloring with and sighed-when I was two, this is not what I saw myself doing at five. Trio of Gifts. In January, my wife, a physician, met with an elderly patient. So was Santa good to you? "she asked. Real good, "he said. I got an SUV. Nice. Yeah Socks, Underwear, and Viagra. Leaving a Light On. An elderly man visits the doctor for a checkup. Mr. Smith, you re in great shape, "says the doctor afterward. How do you do it? Well, says Mr. Smith, I don t drink, I don t smoke, and the good Lord looks out for me. For weeks now, every time I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, he turns the light on for me. Concerned, the doctor finds Mrs. Smith in the waiting room and tells her what her husband said. I don t think that s anything to worry about, she says. And on the bright side, it does explain who s been peeing in the fridge, Long Time, No see. My 45-year-old sister was attending the wedding of a childhood friend when she ran into people she hadn t seen in years. How long exactly? One of them shouted, Kathy, you got your braces off! Wrinkle Cream. My nine-year-old daughter walked in while I was getting ready for work. What are you doing? she asked. Putting on my wrinkle cream, I answered. Oh, she said, walking away. I thought they were natural. Empty Threat. Recently I sat in a restaurant watching two older men go at it. It quickly grew heated as one of them declared, I m so mad, I m taking you off my pallbearer list!
