2 Connie s Corner.... Employee submission this month: What is it about a smile that can have the power to change a single moment in your day? There were several moments that were changed for me, since working at Green Acres of Fremont, simply due to the fact that I often received this compliment from a resident, You have a beautiful smile! Or other times this sweet man would say to me, with a dear smile of his own, Did you know that your smile just brightens up this room? Actually, I didn't know that it did, until he told me so. I was simply smiling because I love people, and to me, it was pretty much a habit. I don't know about you, but that compliment made my smile grow even wider each day after and I wanted to smile all the more! A smile isn t only an expression that states things may be going well at the moment for the beholder. It could be a forced Hello or a simple thank you to a fellow employee. To some, a smile can be a gift of joy during a crucial moment of devastating news. A smile can let a person know that there s someone else who cares. A smile could even be a gift of hope which causes a person to dare and live another day. That one particular day at work, the compliment given to me for my smile was what gave a ray of hope and a gift of love I needed so very much at the time. A year later, that sweet resident passed away and I missed him almost instantly. He taught me that even though I thought I was just doing my job by wearing a smile while I swept and mopped, tended to the coffee bar, or passed out dessert, I was choosing to give something that truly made a difference in someone else s life. For that, I am thankful. A smile is definitely a powerful thing. You and I need to bless others more with a big, beautiful smile. If you ve never received a compliment for your smile, perhaps you aren t using it enough. It doesn t cost a thing, and we all have one to give. We all have much to smile about because God has blessed us with so much! Please think about this one fact and make the choice to give the gift of a smile to another person today. The Bible teaches us that, He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed and A cheerful heart is good medicine and it is true. True indeed.
