In today s Gospel Jesus requires preparedness on the part of all who are His followers. Are we like the five bridesmaids who wisely took extra oil along with their lamps in case there was a delay in the invitation to the great wedding banquet? Or are we instead like the foolish bridesmaids who failed to make plans for the unexpected and were refused entry when the time came? Ultimately, we will determine who we will reflect in our spiritual lives. Because our lives are so fast paced, it becomes easy to miss hearing Jesus most consoling promise. He will come again in all His glory at the end of time. His arrival should not be something we look upon with great fear. Rather, we should see it as a time of great liberation. He will free us from all that binds us to this passing world. Baptized in Christ Jesus, we lay claim to His promise of glory. 1

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 12, 2017 CELEBRATING THE SAINTS Saint Peter Damian, Priest (1007-1073) The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a simplified form of the divine office that honors Mary s role in salvation history through six daily moments of prayer. First recited by monks as early as the 8 th century, the little office spread to the secular clergy, and then, as part of the popular medieval Book of Hours, to lay persons who had joined Third Orders. Peter Damian, a Doctor of the Church, was an early monastic promoter of the little office. As an infant, Peter almost died due to maternal neglect, only the intervention of a family servant saved his life. In religious life, Peter flourished under the care of the Mother of God. During his work as monk and prior of the Camaldolese Monastery of Fronte Avellana in Italy, as a reforming Archbishop of Ostia, and as a trusted diplomat and peacemaker for the Holy See, he relied always on her help. Peter may have composed, and certainly promoted, a version of the little office of the Blessed Virgin for his fellow monks. Peter addressed the Mother Mary, But perhaps, now that you are raised to the high dignity of Queen of Heaven, you have forgotten us poor creatures? Ah, far be such a thought from our minds, for it would little become the great compassion that reigns in the Heart of Mary ever to forget such misery as ours. Saint Peter Damian fell ill in 1073 on the night preceding the feast of the Chair of St. Peter at the monastery of Saint Maria degl Angeli. He ordered the office of the feast to be recited and at the end of the Lauds he died. He was at once buried in the monastery church. His feast day is celebrated on February 21 st. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS St. Anthony Knights of Columbus will pray the Holy Rosary on Sunday 11/19/17 @ 9:25am for the intention of our deceased members. The intention of 10:00am Mass that morning will for our deceased members as well. If you know of a deceased member of the Knights of Columbus please feel free to join us in prayer and for Mass that morning. All are welcome. WEEKLY MASS REMINDER At the beginning of the Preface of the Eucharistic Prayer, we claim that we lift up our hearts to the Lord. This is more than a nice phrase. This is the reality of our prayer. We give our hearts, our lives, everything to our Father in Heaven. COOKIES FOR A CAUSE Calling all women of the parish. Would you like to help bring joy to someone s heart and taste buds? Then join the Women s Faith Ministry on Saturday, December 9 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Hospitality Room for a Christmas cookie decorating party. We are asking participants to bring two dozen plain or shaped (packaged or baked) sugar cookies. All other supplies will be provided. No decorating experience necessary. This second Cookies for a Cause is an example of the service projects that WFM offers throughout the year. It was great fun last year and brought much joy to those at St. Malachi's who received the cookies. Please RSVP no later than Friday, November 24 by calling the Parish Office at (440) 842-2666 or via email at wfmstanthony@gmail.com. This will help us to determine the amount of supplies needed. Feel free to invite other women too. ***Remember to join us at our special evening devotion of the Holy Wounds Chaplet for those who have suffered during recent tragedies and disasters around the world and for the souls in Purgatory. The devotion will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 7 p.m. Please meet in the Hospitality Room. No RSVP is required. Please bring a rosary (some will be available).
