Frst Congregatonal Church f Woodbrdro, New Jersey, sensble f the (treat on t has nusuned n he death of Deacon Danel Selover /oorheen, records ts apprecaton of ls chnrncter, lfe, and usefulness n dvancnk the nterests of thn jhurch and Chrsts Kngdom by hb ot " and fathful actvtes and gen- >rous support of the church and all lenevolences. Deacon Voorhees was a man of decded Chrstan character, who manfested hs devoton to the Master y h«personal ntegrty and uprghtness n every relaton of lfe, and hs untrng actvtes n church work. Wth hs removal our Church has lost ts oldest, mobt wdely known, and best beloved member. Accordng to hs own testmony oft repeated at prayer meetngs he was converted to hrbt n hs early youth at a neghborng prayer meetng held near hs home. After hs converson hs fath never wavered and he never ceased tryng to serve hs Savour. A rectal of the church offces whch he held and th«branches of chureh work to whch he devoted much tme, energy, and a generous porton of hs worldly. substance reads lke a hstory of the-church tself. Followng hs work n helpng to found the church he became one of the orgnal Deacon*, whch offce he flled for forty-nne years and untl he day of hs death. He was the frst Superntendent of he Sunday School, beng annually re-elected for a number of years and servng about forty years n all. Durr.g the last few years of hs lfe he was Superntendent Emertus, an offce created for hm n recognton of hs work n organzng and buldng up the school. He also srrved several terms as Trustee of the Socety and was promnent on varous mportant commttees, especally the commttees to supply and select pastors. Hs muscal talents, whch were of hgh order, were used by! hm n the servce of hs Master. He was the churchs frst organbt and afterward the chor leader for many years. He delghted to nstruct the chldren of the Sunday School n sngng gospel hymns, and under hs drecton the sngng of the school was noted for ts excellence. He was an ever fathful attendant at the stated hours for church worshp, the weekly prayer meetng, the Sunday School and Chrstan Endeavor Socety, takng ah actve part n the meetngs and beng always present at hs..varous posta of duty at the apponted hours. He was a lover of chldren, a teacher of the word of God, a wse counsellor, and an effcent admnstrator. He was most reverental and sympathetc n prayer, whch was couched n the most beautful dcton and the purest language. Words cannot express the genuneness of hs character, the results of hs work, or hs far-reachng personal nfluence for good n the communty, alke through hs home, prvate and extends to hs wfe and famly ts most sncere sympathy n ther sor- 1 row and bereavement, prayng that they may be comforted and ther gref softened by the memory of the sterlng Chrstan character of hm who was fathful n all that was commtted unto hm and has now entered nto the joy of hs Lord.
