PASTOR S PAGE FOR JULY 2013 JULY is the heart of summer. Let s see what is going on in the churches: Monday, July 1, Christ Church Consistory will meet at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, there will be a wedding at Salem Church at 7:00 p.m. We are celebrating the union of Glenn Bensinger and Alice Cuff! Thursday, July 4, is the official celebration of INDEPENDENCE DAY. Have a good one! Salem Consistory will not meet this day due to the holiday. Sunday, July 7, is the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost. Normally, Pastor Mark would preach at the Friendly Home on that date, but he is taking the rest of the day off to celebrate his birthday. On Monday, July 8, Pastor Mark is preaching at the Friendly Home, 2:00 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join him to put on the service. Music is especially appreciated. Moreover, this is the quarterly Joint Consistory Meeting, Christ Church, 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 8 thru Friday, July 12, there will be a Child Evangelism Camp in Valley View. It begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m. in the Valley View Park. Please pre-register if possible. The Day Camp sometimes fills up. Wednesday, July 10, VBS Planning Meeting, Christ Church, 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11, Salem Church Consistory will meet at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14, we are celebrating HOLY COMMUNION at both churches. Please prepare yourselves to receive the Holy Sacrament. That evening, at 6:00 p.m., the Pitman Community Service Planning Meeting will take place at the grove. Representatives from both of our churches should plan to be there. 1

2 Monday, July 15, is the deadline for the August LIFELINE. Please have all your information to Rose Novinger by this date. Tuesday, July 16 through Saturday, July 20, there will be the KLINGERSTOWN FIREMAN S CARNIVAL. July 16 is parade night. Pastor Mark will be directing traffic as usual. Please come out and support the fire company! Sunday, July 21, is the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost. Sunday, July 21 thru Thursday, July 25, there will be a joint Lutheran/Reformed Vacation Bible School at Christ Church. The theme is: THE MIGHTY GOD: GOD LEADS MOSES AND ME by Bogard Press. The theme involves knights, castles, etc. We begin at 6:15 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. each night. Registration is on Sunday, at Christ Church, starting at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration forms are available at Christ Church. Please pre-register if you can. There will be an adult class taught by the pastors as usual. The theme will be the same as the children s, but with a more mature approach. Please come yourself and bring your children and/or grandchildren. Everyone, please bring a T-shirt so that the VBS staff can place an iron on logo for you and your children. Each class will be given a different color. The offering will be given to tornado victims of Oklahoma. There will also be a clothing drive for the women s shelter in Bloomsburg. Friday, July 26 thru Sunday, July 28, the PITMAN FIRE PICNIC will take place. There will be a parade on Saturday, July 28, at 5:00 p.m. Please come out and support the fire company. On Sunday, July 28, there will be the Pitman Community Service. There will be no services at either of our churches so that we can support this event. Sunday School is at 9:00 a.m. with church at 10:15 a.m. Please help out at this event any way that you can. There will be a hymn sing at 7:00 p.m. Please stay posted in the bulletin for any changes. Parre Mark PARISH FACTS BAPTISM Lillian Patricia Robert, daughter of Christopher Steven Robert, Jr. and Rebecca Helen Wehry Robert, was baptized at Salem Church on Sunday, June 2, She was born at Lankenau Hospital in Lynnewood, PA, on March 17, We wish to congratulate little Lillian and her whole family! Brian Charles Fetterolf was received as a full member of Salem Church via the rite of Confirmation on June 9, Congratulations to Brian and his family! 2

3 TRANSFER Amber Gill was received as a new member at Salem Church on Sunday, June 9. Amber transferred from First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg to Salem Church. Welcome, Amber, to your new church home! WEDDING Brian T. Shepherd and Kimberly B. Wetzel were united in Holy Matrimony at Sweet Arrow Lake Park on June 14, Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple and their family! FUNERAL Ronald G. Morgan, age 74, passed away on June 4, His funeral was held on June 8 at Salem Church with interment at Jacob s Cemetery in Pitman. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Ronald s family and friends! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Salem Church had a very successful VBS from June 9 through 13! We had 31 kids that enrolled in the program! That does not include a number of babies that were carried around that week! A BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteer staff and parents who made this a wonderful program!
