PASTOR S PAGE FOR JULY 2011 JULY is the heart of summer. Let s see what is going on in the churches: Monday, June 27, Christ Church Consistory will hold a special Consistory Meeting, for its JULY MEETING. They will discuss the roof project and hope to finalize plans on a bid. This will be presented to the Congregation for discussion and vote sometime in JULY. Please stay posted in the bulletin for details. The meeting is at 8:00 p.m. We hope that all consistory members can make this meeting! Sunday, July 3, is the day before INDEPENDENCE DAY. Have a Happy Fourth of July celebration and weekend! We will have patriotic music at both churches. Thursday, July 7, Salem Church Consistory will meet at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, we are celebrating HOLY COMMUNION at both churches. Please prepare yourselves to receive the Holy Sacrament. Monday, July 11, is the quarterly Joint Consistory Meeting, Christ Church, 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15, there will be a Child Evangelism Camp in Valley View. It begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m. in the Valley View Park. Please pre-register if possible. The Day Camp sometimes fills up. Friday, July 15, is the deadline for the August LIFELINE. Please have all your information to Rose Novinger by this date. 1

2 Sunday, July 17, Pastor Mark is preaching at the Friendly Home, 2:00 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join him to put on the service. Music is especially appreciated. Tuesday, July 19 through Saturday, July 23, there will be the KLINGERSTOWN FIREMAN S CARNIVAL. July 19 is the parade. Pastor Mark will be directing traffic as usual. There will also be the traditional NITE OF STARS on Saturday night. Please come out and support the fire company! Sunday, July 24, is the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost. Sunday, July 24 through Thursday, July 28, there will be a joint Lutheran/Reformed Vacation Bible School at Christ Church. The theme is: Cokesbury s SHAKE IT UP CAFE. We begin at 6:15 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. each night. Registration is on Sunday, at Christ Church, starting at 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration forms are available at Christ Church. Please pre-register if you can. There will be an adult class taught by the pastors as usual. The theme will be the same as the children s, but with a more mature approach. Please come yourself and bring your children and/or grandchildren. While you are at it, bring the neighbor s kids, too! A closing program will be held on Thursday night. Our offering includes canned goods to help local needy people. Thank you for keeping that in mind! Friday, July 29 through Sunday, July 31, the PITMAN FIRE PICNIC will take place. There will be a parade on Saturday, July 30, at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, there will be the Pitman Community Service. There will be no services at either of our churches so that we can support this event. Sunday School is at 9:00 a.m. with church at 10:15 a.m. Pastor Mark is preaching this year at the church service. Please help out at this event any way that you can. There will be a hymn sing at 7:00 p.m. Please come out and support the fire company. Please stay posted in the bulletin for any changes. Some details listed here are not set in stone yet. She was born at Lankenau Hospital, Wynnewood, PA on March 14, We wish to congratulate the family and friends of little Eleanor! CONFIRMATIONS Salem Church -- June 12, 2011 The following students were confirmed and are now full members of Salem Church: Brockton Paul Neugard, age 13 Chase Richard Schaeffer, age 13 Riley William Shaffer, age 12 We wish to congratulate the Confirmands and their families! Welcome, new members! FUNERAL On May 24, the funeral of Ashley E. Blackiston, age 15, was held at the Rothermel Funeral Home with Pastor Mark officiating. We wish to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Ashley! 2

3 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Salem Church had a very successful VBS from June 12 through 16! We had over 40 kids! A BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteer staff who made this a wonderful program! THANK YOU TO OUR CHURCH FAMILY, Thank you for your prayers during Dad s illness and since his passing. We appreciate the love and thoughtfulness expressed through the cards and also the food that was sent. Your kindness and generosity means so much.
