PASTOR S PAGE FOR OCTOBER 2014 OCTOBER is the first full month of Fall. It is always a beautiful month full of good things. Let us see what some of them are: The Consistory Meetings for October are as follows: Oct. 2--Salem Church, 8:00 p.m.; Oct. 6--Christ Church, 8:00 p.m.; Oct. 13--Joint Consistory, Salem, 8:00 p.m. Consistory members, please put these dates on your calendars. Monday, Oct. 13, there will be Cake Baking at Salem Church for God s Chuckwagon at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 is the deadline of the November LIFELINE. Please have your materials to Rose Novinger by this date. Sunday, Oct. 19, is the Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost. There will be a vote at Christ Church concerning the future of the Line Mountain Charge immediately after the service. There will be no discussion on this day. At Salem Church, you may begin to bring items for the church bazaar and place them in the old Sunday School area on one of the tables. Thank you! 1

2 Monday, October 20, the Salem Bazaar Committee will meet at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 is Reformation/Reconciliation Sunday. We will enjoy the Reformation hymns and other events associated with that day. At Christ Church, we are having our monthly church social time immediately after church. This is a potluck meal. Simply bring something to share and join the fun and fellowship. The dessert theme is something pumpkin. This is also time for our joint FALL FESTIVAL/HALLOWEEN PARTY. It starts at Salem Church at a time to be announced. This is a party with participation from the Youth Group and Salem Sunday School, but all are welcome! Please stay posted for developments. Many details have not been decided yet. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL who put so much time and effort in this event every year! From Sunday, Oct. 26 through Wednesday, Oct. 29, the Hepler Church of God is having its Fall Revival Services. Until next time, macht s gut un behaft dich! Pastor Mark PARISH FACTS WEDDING Ryan Adam Ritter and Brittany Jane Rothermel were united in Holy Matrimony on September 6, 2014, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Rothermel. Pastor Mark officiated. We wish to extend our congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple! FUTURE OF THE LINE MOUNTAIN CHARGE Christ Church approached Salem Church several months ago about increasing the apportionment. Due to their declining membership they felt they would be unable to keep paying the apportionment of Christ Church 37% and Salem Church 63%. They asked for a change in apportionment to Christ Church paying 27% and Salem Church paying 73%. After 2 congregational meetings, a vote was held at Salem Church on September 7. The results of the vote were as follows: 69 votes to dissolve the Line Mountain Charge as soon as possible. 11 votes for Salem Church to pay 73% and Christ Church to pay 27% and continue the Line Mountain Charge. Salem Church will give Christ Church a donation to help them meet their financial obligations. **SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT** The Joint Consistory has approved the sending of the LIFELINE via . If you would like a digital, rather than a paper, copy of the newsletter, please send an to Rose Novinger requesting such a change. Her is linemtcharge@hotmail.com. Thank you! HARBAUGH S CORNER Normally, in October, our Pennsylvania German language class is in full swing. Unfortunately, for various reasons, we had to postpone it this year. Stay posted for a date for a new language class. We want you to know that we are still committed to teaching Pennsylvania German. For this reason, I am using, as our PG reading, a poem that encourages us to hold on to the language. This is taken from our old standby, DIE PENNSYLVAANISCH DEITSCHE, on page 227. This is part of a poem by one of the finest PG writers, John Birmelin: Noh finnscht en mancher guder Friend Vun rechde Schrot un Kann; Der saagt s der vun der Lewwer weck 2 TRANSLATION Then you find many a good friend Of the good old type; He tells it like it is

I hope you enjoyed this! Parre Mark Right to your face/forehead. And when you get home to your people, Then be just as you are; And don t lift your nose too high-- No good Christian does that. What father and mother have taught you, O, hold it ever high! Nothing sounds nicer in the world Than the mother tongue. SALEM CHURCH NEWS Vote Results: On September 7, the Salem Church Congregation had a unanimous 82 votes to replace the flat roof over the new addition to the church. The roof will be replaced as soon as possible. 7th Annual Salem Church Bazaar November 1, :00am-2:00pm It is that time of year again to think and prepare for our Bazaar. We will be looking for donations which can be brought to the church starting October 19th. If for some reason you need to drop something at the church before that date, please put it in the basement and mark it for the Bazaar. Please be sure your donations are in good condition, lightly used and in working order and clean. The tables we will have are, BOOKS (also DVD's and VHS tapes), JEWELRY,BAKED GOODS, ATTIC TREASURES (please no clothing or shoes), TOYS, CHRISTMAS (decorations, ornaments, etc.) and PLANTS. There will be food for sale however this year we will be cutting back. We won't be baking as much so we ask the congregation if they will bake to add to our baked goods table (pies sell very well). We will have various vendors and also the raffle. Diana Klinger will donate a quilt and Russell Blyler will donate one of his wood carvings. We are looking for help and would appreciate all you can do to make our Bazaar a success. This year we will be collecting for God's Chuck Wagon and Haven Ministries. We will let you know at a later date what items we will be collecting. Please help us with the Bazaar and join our fellowship.
