2 Cross Talk Longform Newsletter for August 2018 Back-Issues Available at A Special Message from the Pastor s Desk Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. (Philippians 1:2-5) I understand how Paul must have felt towards the folks in Philippi. Since the very first Sunday, y all have welcomed me. I have enjoyed our conversations and beginning to know you better. Thank you for the invitation to lead the worship of our Lord and proclaim God s Word in May and June. Thank you to Susan Lux and Jeff Ward for all of our conversations and shared information. Thank you to Susan Kaschak for allowing me to sing with the choir on June 3 and coordinating hymn selections. Thank you to Mary Drotleff, for the timely sharing of information for each Sunday. Thank you to Michelle Ward for her timeliness in handling the pulpit supply checks. As I begin my term call ministry here, I cannot think of better words of greeting in love than what Paul gave Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! First and foremost God gives us his gift of grace! We have received the grace given to us through the Passion and Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we come together as a community of faith, we hear the Word of God and the grace given to us through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We also receive another important gift of grace, the sacrament of Holy Communion, Jesus precious body and blood given to us in the night in which he was betrayed. God s grace certainly does not stop here. When we stop and think about it, in some way God indeed has graced us each and every day. God also gives us his peace, something that the world cannot give. God s peace is based on that wonderful Hebraic word: shalom. Shalom has a wider, larger meaning of well being. Shalom seeks peaceful, friendly relationships with others (individuals as well as nations) that are mutually beneficial for all. The key thing to know here is that shalom is relational; it is never defined as an inner peace, but in terms of relationship with God, with others, with other nations, and with creation. When God s shalom is extended to us, we are changed by God to be an instrument of grace and peace for others. And, especially as we recall the miracle of Jesus Resurrection, we are also called to share the gift of joy. We, as a people of God, are called to share these gifts of grace, peace, and joy from our Lord. Each of us has a story to share about how God has been present in our lives. Each of us has been given gifts from the Holy Spirit to share in loving others to give glory to God. In closing, I thank you for sharing your gifts of grace. I am glad to be here. I look forward in celebrating the grace of God together in ministry with you. Again, grace to you, joy, and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ! Yours in Christ, Pastor Scott P.S. 3 Announcements for the Start of the Month News breaks all the time during a month from our church! Find it anytime at THE MYSTERY OF THE LAMB I wondered where the little lamb came from since I became a member in I asked the congregation to help me solve the mystery. After following all the suggestions from our members regarding our little Lamb, that resides in the Sanctuary, I have suspended my search. I am at a dead-end. I contacted former Pastors and also asked families of our members who are not with us. If anyone comes forward with a explanation, I will correct the mystery. The only explanation I have arrived at is the lamb found it way to our church with the help of the Angels or by God himself, after all we are Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church! The Shepherd tends his flock and we our the flock of this church. The little Lamb watches over our church and the congregation. The wonders, that God bestows on us, some people do not understand or cannot explain. If you are a true believer, then anything is possible. Each Sunday gaze over at the little guy and thank God for his blessings he sends to us. I would like to thank Renny Patterson, Jim Hunter, everyone who gave me Pastor John s name, JoAnn Reynolds, and even Pastor John himself, and Marilyn Mason for the clues to help me find out anything about our Lamb. 4 Announcements for the Start of the Month News breaks all the time during a month from our church! Find it anytime at MISSION PROJECT FOR PENECOST: We supported the Domestic Violence shelters in Stark and Tuscarawas counties. We supplied the shelters with personal care, baby, and food items. This project wrapped up July 29th. A big Thank You to all who donated. This project was very worth while and greatly appreciated. BACKPACKS FOR SCHOOL: The cut-off is Sunday August 5. We supply children with the necessary school items, all packed into backpacks, to get them started for the new school year. This program is through Helping Hands Network. Thank you to all who donated. The children will be happy with their supplies. BLESSING OF THE BABY QUILTS: Bill & Janice Hunt of Mount Sterling, Ohio operate a Day Care out of there home. They are Steve Hunt s parents, and Alex, John and Hannah s grandparents. On May 16, 2018, their home caught fire and their home was destroyed, all but a few cherished photos. They manage to get everyone out of the home to safety. Janice always made quilts for each of her children in her care. Our Heavenly Father laid on Dottie Scott s heart to replace the quilts. Dottie talked with the JoAnn Reynolds and the quilting ladies, and they decided to help Dottie replace the quilts for Janice s children. They decided to make 12 quilts, like the apostles. They were blessed by Pastor Scott on July 15, 2018, and will be delivered soon. Dorothy Anne Hunt, Dottie Scott s great-granddaughter, has be placed in the care of Melissa Cordell, the Hunt s daughter. Baby Dorothy will be attending Nana Janice s day care and the use of one of these blankets will comfort her during naptime. This fact brings together how we are important in deciding to bless the Hunt Day Care with blankets. This ministry has again been blessed by God. Say a prayer for the Hunts and for our quilting ladies.
