1 President The Heritage Heartbeat Painting News for Members of Palomar Heritage Painters Vol 35, Issue 2, February 2018 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE February 10, 2018 Chickadees Box Sandy Garcia It s the season of LOVE! Oh, how lovely was the Paint-in with Karen. I unfortunately could not stay as I was one of the thousands of people sick this season, but when I came to pick up the equipment, the room reminded me of a beautiful flower garden. Than you, Karen, for challenging our painters to paint outside their comfort zone. Heard positive feedback. If you are curious, the paints provided by chapter for this piece cost chapter $15 per person, money well spent. As we move into spring and our new calendar, I want to remind everyone the membership roster contains a coupon for a free class for the calendar year, so be sure to enjoy a free class on us. Rosters will be given out at Mystery Paint-in. Also, if you attend 3 or more regular Paint-ins, your Christmas party will be free. Sandy Garcia is busy collecting pieces for Ways and Means, can t wait to see what she has for chapter this year. Thank you, Sandy, for chairing this committee. February is a busy month beginning with Sandy s class and ending with convention in Las Vegas. If you attend the convention, be sure to share your experiences with us. A picture of your art or your purchases is fun to see and allows all of us to enjoy the conference even if we don t attend. Leslie is busy putting on the final touches for Mystery Paint In, if you haven t signed up, don t wait, spaces are filling up fast. Also, just a reminder it would be fun if we had a few raffles now and then, get together with a friend and have fun making up raffle prizes. Any money you spend will be refunded, so let me know if there is a month you would like to take. Linda There's no retirement for an artist, it's your way of living so there's no end to it. -Henry Moore Linda Silvasy March 10, 2018 Mystery Paint-In April 14, 2018 Harvest Witch on Moon Bobbie Takashima In this Issue Upcoming Classes & Events...2 Programs Report...3 Mystery Paint-In...3 Garage Sale...3 Garage Sale & Potluck...4 January Paint-In Photos...4 Membership Report...6 Board Meeting Minutes...6 Sunshine & Birthdays...7 Potluck News...7 PHP Calendar...8 Need Baskets Conventions...9 Map to Paint-In...9 Class Signup Sheet List of Officers Membership Form Page 1 The Heritage Heartbeat February 2018

3 1st Vice-Presidents Programs NEWS from 1 st Vice Presidents (Programs) WOW! What a way to start out the year. Awesome chapter participation for our first class of 2018 (almost half of our chapter). Everyone walked away with a painting called The French Connection taught by Karen Ortman. The project gave everyone a chance to paint with a medium we don t normally use called Golden Open Acrylics. Lunch was included consisting of sandwiches and salads. Desserts were donated by some of the members. Fun times were had by all. February 10 class: Chickadees Box For those of you signed up for this class you will need to apply some stenciling and stamping to your piece prior to applying your pattern. Sandy has all the stencils and stamps. She suggests you show up at approximately 8:30 am so this can be completed and your pattern applied prior to class starting at 9:00 am. March 10 class: Mystery Paint In We still have a few openings but they are going fast. Mystery Paint In is a chapter event to show its appreciation and thankfulness to our members. This day includes a surprise project and teacher, a delicious lunch, and raffle prizes. This event is a year in the planning and hosted by our Mystery Paint In Committee led by Leslie Pilcher. We promise you a good time and the committee treats everyone to an enjoyable day. Don t miss out. April 14 class: Harvest Witch on Moon Just started taking signups for this class. Don t get spooked and get an early start on Halloween. Patterns are available. Debi and Carol Carol Voyles and Debi Stivers See you on February 10 at the table. Marilyn D.. Mystery Paint-in News Start saving your $ $ $'s for the upcoming Mystery Paint-in Raffle on March 10th. A little birdie told us the raffle promises to have some spectacular items. Just a reminder to secure your seat now for a very popular, members only, day of painting. As always the day will include a light breakfast, an extra yummy lunch, snacks and a good time. Send your check for $30 to Debi Stivers. Use the sign-up sheet on page 10. For questions, you can reach chairman Leslie Pilcher. leslie.m.pilcher@gmail.com A View from the Garage Sale Table Lots of new items for the table. Many thanks to Debi Stivers and B J Witz for so many books, packets, paint and wood pieces. Many wood items will be used for our raffles. Both donations were very generous. B J has decided to paint in watercolors only. She will still continue to join our paint-in, using her "medium". I myself have also added about 40 painting magazines, many of them Christmas. The PHP stash has been re-organized. We will have another "free" table after lunch, this next month. It is so great that these items are getting a second chance with someone else. So everybody weed out the items you will never get around to. If you won't be at a paint-in soon...call me. Page 3 The Heritage Heartbeat February 2018

7 Pot Luck Sunshine SDP Liaison February brings us Groundhog Day, Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, Chinese New Year, President s Day (formerly known as Washington s Birthday with Lincoln s birthday being celebrated on a different day), Ash Wednesday and Valentines Day both on February 14th and National Margarita Day on February 22nd. Two zodiac signs for February are Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) and Pisces (February 19 - March 20) The month has 29 days in leap years, when the year number is divisible by four. In common years the month has 28 days. Viola (plant) and the Primrose are the birth flowers. The birthstone is amethyst. People born in February are usually far from reality. They are interesting and intelligent, but are preoccupied with abstract thoughts. These people are also extremely sensitive and can be easily hurt. They are friendly by nature, but may feel isolated at times. They are exceptionally loyal and devoted to the people they love. Famous people born in February are Tommy Smothers, Christie Brinkley, Robert Wagner, Burt Reynolds, Jane Seymour, John Travolta, Sidney Poitier, Drew Barrymore, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan, Farrah Fawcett, Elizabeth Taylor, Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Famous people born on February 6 are Ronald Reagan, Bob Marley, Natalie Cole, Aaron Burr, Babe Ruth, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Tom Brokaw, and Jeanne Robert. On February 6, The U.S. Senate ratified the peace treaty that led to the end of the Spanish-American War. On February 6, 1952, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Other PHP members (besides me!) with February birthdays are Carolyn Miller on the 7th and Nina Pierson on the 9th. Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared. I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade and try to find someone whose life has given them vodka, and have a party.. Jeanne Robert jrtb88@yahoo.com Jeanne Robert Jeanne Robert... 6 Carolyn Miller... 7 Nina Pierson... 9 Potluck News It's Pot Luck Lunch day on Feb.10th. I will be calling many of you taking the class. I seem to have the hardest time with gals bringing a main/casserole dish. Please volunteer to bring one, when called upon. The same people seem to bring dishes from the same category each time. We all enjoy our lunches at paint-ins, so...please do your part. I try to not ask two months in a row. Coffee will be brewing. Please bring your own cold drinks for the day.
