3 Your Priest Perspective. We will be holding a Pet Blessing at the gazebo in the park at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8th. This will take the place of our regular service. Please invite all your friends and their pets and please bring your own pets for a blessing. Please bring your own chair! Chicken N Biscuit Dinner Election Day Tuesday, Nov. 7th 4 p.m.?? We are starting to plan for our Election Night Dinner. Priscilla Moot has agreed to co-chair it with me this year. It is one of our big fund raisers, so we need everyone to help. Last year we served 227 dinners and made approximately $1,500 for our Church. It is always a very busy night however, it is also fun. We will have a sign-up sheet shortly or please let us know how you are able to help, there are jobs for everyone. God's Blessings, Sharon and Priscilla If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith. Galatians 6:8-10 Harvest time is upon us; in our gardens, we receive a bounty of fruits and vegetables from God s creation. We do the work of planting and nurturing, and we trust God to bring the harvest. That s true of our church ministry work, too. We plant seeds of good will and love among ourselves and within our community; we give of our time and our money generously, and we hope that what we do will bear fruit that we will grow spiritually and that God will bless our ministry. God is always faithful in bringing the harvest. Sometimes we are tired and discouraged. We ve worked hard; we ve seen no results; we re sometimes ready to give up. God often chooses these times when we are down to bless us the most. If we are faithful in our giving and serving, then God will bring in a harvest beyond all imagination. Randi+

4 Bishop Franklin s Retirement Bishop William Franklin has announced his retirement, effective April 3, The text of his retirement letter is on the home page of the diocesan Web site, episcopalwny.org/2017/09/announcement-bishop-franklin/. Applefest is fast approaching. October 15th will be here before you know it. We are always in need of baked goods, canned goods, craft items and baskets for the basket raffle and anything else you can think of. I would like to thank all of you who are working so hard to make this a successful event. St. John's is very fortunate to have all of you. Lois Bateman Chairman As Chairman of the Baked Goods table I am asking for your favorite homemade goodies to sell. We welcome homemade canned goods also. If you have any questions please don t hesitate to call me on my cell. Priscilla Moot ** ANNUAL MEETING ** SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3rd As a diocese, we are beginning discussions with a neighboring diocese, the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania, to share their bishop, the Right Rev. Sean Rowe. The discussion began at the clergy overnight, Sept 15 and 16. At this point, the discussions are only visionary, with no details. The vision is that the money that would ordinarily be used for a second bishop would be available for mission. The specific uses for the money will be determined later in the process, but examples would be for planting churches, revitalizing churches or seeding new ministry projects. The vision also includes sharing of diocesan staffs so that we could have access to specialists to help in our mission. Discussion, with attention to filling in details in the vision, will continue in planning groups that will represent all the constituents of both dioceses. These groups will meet in early October and will present a progress report at our Diocesan Convention in late October and the diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania at their convention in November. Within the next few months, we will make a decision whether to continue the discussions toward sharing a bishop or to pursue election of a new bishop in the traditional fashion. Regardless of whether we decide to share a bishop or elect our own, the Diocese of Western New York would remain as it is, with its legal and geographical structure. We would retain our diocesan identity, and the Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania would retain theirs. If we do decide to share a bishop, this would be done by calling Bishop Sean as a provisional bishop for a set period of time to be determined. Please pray for the guidance from the Holy Spirit and for all of us to be open to that guidance. Randi+

6 ZUMBA CLASSES: We have been having Zumba classes on Tuesdays which have been quite successful. Our first six week period is ending October 17th and we will restart a new session on November 14th through December 12th. It will only be five weeks for this session and the cost will be $35 for St. John's members and $40 for others because it's only for five weeks this time. Amanda, the instructor, is quite pleased with the amount of people that have shown an interest. You do have to sign up if you're interested in the next class as there is a 20 person limit. I will have the phone number posted at the church on the flyer soon. If you have any questions you can contact me. Lois Bateman Happy Birthday To. We will be collecting money through November 5th. Checks can be made payable to St. John's with coat drive on the memo line. The children thank you for all of your generosity. Contact Lois Bateman if you would like to learn more about this project. Advent Begins on December 3rd Christmas Eve Services: 6 p.m. St. Andrew s 10:30 p.m. St. John s CHRISTMAS FAMILY: We will be purchasing gifts again this year. Watch for our giving tree in the Parish Hall. Please see Lois Bateman Wilson Community Food Pantry News The pantry continues to serve those in need in the community. Our Family numbers are down, but it is not because there is not a need, it is because our shoppers have found employment. This may change in the fall and cool months as most of the shoppers are day laborers. The local pantries in our area share their shopper lists so we have no double dippers. We have enjoyed the bounty of Nick s Community Garden as well as that of the local community gardens. Coulters Market donated fresh strawberries and peaches when in season. The pantry volunteers painted the hallway walls and doors in August. We participated in the Wilson Fireman s parade again and dressed as food items, this is always well received by the parade observers. Stats: Families Individuals Meals June July August September Items needed for the Wilson Food Pantry Thanksgiving Dinners are turkey gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce. As always the pantry thanks you for thinking of us and helping us to provide for our community and those in need.
