Rock Hill, SC (803) oepg@comporium.net Painting News Message from the President SEPTEMBER I hope everyone has had a chance to see Peggy Reuschling s Fall landscape painting, as well as the palm trees and saucy lady portrait. She was kind enough to share them with us at our August meeting and on Facebook. She explained that she simply used her imagination and talent to create them. No patterns. This so moved me for two reasons. One, that she expressed moving out of her comfort zone to pull the images in her mind forward and just let them flow onto the surface. Again, no patterns. How wonderful. How brave. For many years I have thought about doing that very thing but have not been brave. It s a little scary to look at a blank surface and say to yourself- OK go! So, one thing I m learning from Peggy is to first choose a feeling or inspiration (in her case, the colors and images of Fall), mull it over in your mind for a short time, then release it - right onto the surface. Just go with it. The second reason I was so moved was that Peggy was thinking Fall in August while I was still complaining about the heat and drought. The calendar page turned to September and I noticed the leaves, pine needles and acorns all falling and the flowers pushing their last blooms. IT IS FALL! Everything is telling us that. Peggy, without knowing it, simply nudged me to see the beauty of this season now and, more importantly, to be inspired by it. Happy Fall Season Everyone! Finally, Thank You, Thank You to those who volunteered to help plan the Christmas Party Pam Myers, Tina, Jean Woods, Tammy and Donna. In the past we have always had as much fun preparing for the party as we have celebrating. If I missed anyone, please see Ruthy. YOU ARE APPRECIATED Linda Miller, President

One must never, for whatever reason, turn his [sic] back on life. --Eleanor Roosevelt As I look back over the significant teachers in my life, one of the characteristics that consistently stands out is their curiosity. We sometimes think that curiosity is reserved for youth and is only natural in young children. Yet I am sure that if we think about the people we have known, those that we remember most vividly are those who remained incurably curious throughout their lives. There is an intimate link between curiosity and aliveness. Curiosity appears to be in the gene bank of the human species. My curiosity is not dead, even though it may seem to have been slumbering for a while. May I never be "cured" of my curiosity! Pam Myers Monthly Teaching Schedule for 2018 September Jean Wood October Debby Brown November Christmas Party OK so I m older now and exact dates and places are filed too far back in my mind to spend my time retrieving them but here is my memory of an earlier OEPG meeting I attended. I had not been in SC long and at the urging of D. Jordan I had come to a few OEPG meetings. I have to admit to being a bit introverted and shy so had not really stayed long at meetings to get to know anyone except Debbie. I came to a meeting and there was an auction that day for some really nice painted pieces. Well I knew I needed to leave early and I wanted to see all the pieces coming up for auction and it was draaaagging out way too long. I had done auctions for my chapter in Ohio, so thought I can make this go a bit faster so I can get to see all the pieces. I decided to open my mouth and volunteer (this is not always a good idea) to describe the pieces in a faster manner - It has earned me the reputation of being Vanna the showgirl!! PS - I love the folks at OEPG and am not shy with them anymore!!! If you were there you know who wrote this - if not just call Pat Sajax

5 Olde English Painters Guild Meeting Minutes August 25, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 9:50 a.m. President Linda Miller asked if everyone has received the newsletter this month. Everyone present had received there copy. Linda asked for any corrections or omissions to the minutes. There being none, Pam Myers made a motion to accept the minutes as published. Hilda Crawford seconded. The motion passed. Linda asked who had volunteered to help with the Christmas party. It was noted that Pam Myers, Bonnie Klocke, Tammie Lafitte, Donna Latta, Jean Wood, Jean Wood and Linda Miller will make up the committee led by Ruthy Orwig. A workshop will be discussed at lunch time. A Treasurer report was not available. It is assumed that nothing has changed since last month. Hilda Crawford, Sunshine chairperson, has sent cards to Bob Greco and Debbie Brown. New Business: Renewal for SDP can be done at anytime. Janelle Johnson sent a Facebook message regarding donations to SDP Museum project. Some chapters have followed her lead and donated money as well. Currently, SDP is in the hole by $200,000. Linda asked the members if they would consider donating money to the cause. Pam Myers made motion to send $50.00 to the museum project. Bonnie Klocke seconded. After some discussion a vote was taken and the motion passed. It has been decided that our lunch break will be 45 minutes long. If members who choose to go out for lunch, please be back and ready to paint within that time frame. Bonnie brought up the subject of Paint Pouring. We will explore the technique next year. Linda asked if anyone would like to send an article for the newsletter. Any subject will be acceptable. Just something everyone would like to share. Send your article to Linda at rmill@comporium.net and she will forward your piece to Pam. Update on Debby Brown. Her surgery went very well. She is recovering at home. Our guest today is Patti Wells. Patti is a friend of Pam Myers. We hope she will come again. Ruth Orwig announced that the Greenville Chapter (Foothills) will host Janice Miller on Nov. 3rd. Cherry Road (route 21) intersects with Oakland Ave there is an Exxon station on one corner and a Citgo on opposite corner. From Cherry Road, Oakland Ave is a divided street. The grass divider ends right in front of the church. THE PARKING LOT IS ON THE RIGHT side of the church. Park anywhere. Enter the church from parking lot side door. Go straight in and through the double doors to the ELEVATOR ON THE LEFT. Go to 2nd floor. You can, of course, come up the stairwell but if you have your painting bag, or a bag with wheels, the elevator be more convenient. Please enter from the left side door. See you there!! Thank You OEPG Family A few weeks ago I was reminded of something I have known for a number of years. But, as happens in life, I took it for granted. I am surrounded by a beautiful group of ladies who are caring, thoughtful, kind, compassionate and concerned. I have known most of you for many, many years and I always knew what wonderful friends you were but when Linda delivered the bags of individually wrapped gifts to my home I was blown away. You will never know the impact it had on me. I can t thank you enough!! Each and every gift I opened made me smile. I m sure you realize I couldn t open just a couple of gifts a day. I tried, I really did. I opened two. Then I sat there and looked at the bags and opened two more. It actually took me a few hours but I made it through all of the gifts loving each and every one of them. They have made my days of recovery much easier. I have drawn and colored with my granddaughters who were totally thrilled with the Frozen gifts. I have put on lotion, sketched, written, worn socks, eaten a peach, brushed my hair, made an ornament, word searched, decorated with pumpkins and on and on. You are an amazing group of ladies and I am so proud you are my friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Debby
