1 July 16, 2017 Our History: The Savage Street Church of Christ began on March 4, 1923 at 6th and H Streets. After sometime on Evelyn Street, we moved to our present location on March 20, Join us in 2023 when we celebrate our 100th anniversary! SAVAGE STREET Church of Christ When Sadness Enters Your Life Remember what the Man of sorrows did We have to keep glorifying God, as Paul wrote, Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1Co 10.31). Do not focus on self. The more we focus on self, the more sink into self-pity. Save someone, save yourself. Comfort someone, comfort yourself. Get rid of the pour me mentality, and see that the Lord is using you. Remember Jesus on the cross, who assured one of the men crucified with Him, And Jesus said to him, Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise (Luke 23.43). How much sadness did Je s u s h ave o n t h e cross? Yet, He looked after His mother (John 19.26), and prayed for His executioners (Luke 23.34). Remember Job when he lost everything, that the Bible says of him, Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. And he said: Naked I came from my mother s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD (Job ). Remember David when his son died, When David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore David said to his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate (2Sa ). Finally, people who never become Christians, or who never live an active Christian life, will see the Lord cast them out of His presence, and will see the patriarchs, and the prophets in the kingdom of God, and will see harlots going into the kingdom of heaven. What kind of sadness will that bring? It will be a sadness never matched on the earth, and worse, a sadness from which there is no recovery. 2 CHIMALA BIBLE INSTITUTE EVANGELISM REPORT May 20 - May the challenge of africa Below is a report that I just received from Joseph Hoanga. Since 99 percent of the churches operate without Elders in their congregations, they often rely on the men at our School of Preaching for leadership when it comes to church problems. Joseph and several other men play a big role in trying to mature the church here. On top of this work, they had 48 baptisms in the month of May. Hello brethren we greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The return to the Bible Seminar at Mbeya was very well attended with more than 40 in attendance. Several lessons were taught like the Patriacal age, the Mosiac age, the Christ age, Salvation and the Kingdom of God. After finishing the seminar two people added to the church. Also we had a trip to visit one family of one of our students. His wife wanted a divorce because she said most of the time she is alone while her husband is at school. We encouraged them and yesterday both families from both the wife and husband came together united. That makes glory to the church and family. At Inyala we met with the church and discussed some problems they were having. It seems that most of the problem was a leadership system they had in place. It was not in accordance to the scriptures. They were doing things like they had chosen daecons without elders. They were also claiming that the preacher they have was left by someone elase and they did not chose him. Also they had a group of women that were running a business which caused some Christians to be offended and backsliding. After a long discussion everyone asked forgiveness and all promissed to work together. At Kapunga we encouraged the church. It seemed there was a problem between the church, the preacher and one of our students at CBI. After t alking every thing out, everyone was satisfied and all things seemed to be resolved. At Itumpi they had a great Sunday this week with five souls being added to the Lord s Church. Their attendance was good and every one was very thankful to God for the great worship they had. Last of all, Ezekiel made a trip to Mbagala in Dar es Salaam to teach the members how to raise chickens. The Christians really enjoyed the seminars. Along with this, two people obeyed the Gospel and were baptized into Christ. This makes 9 souls added to the church. Let s go together by prayers in front of God for them. 3 Every year we have Vacation Bible School and I have seen how much love and effort this congregation pours into it. This is such a huge outreach to the families in our community. I am thankful to be a part of this. It is such a reward to see all of the happy children. Vacation Bible School can have an effect on a child for the rest of his life and that is so exciting! We are still in need of volunteers for VBS. The more the better. If anyone would still like to volunteer please see Carl or Traci. There are many things to help with. Thank you to all who have signed up and for all the loving work you all do. Please pray for our Vacation Bible School that we be able to share the gospel with lots of children and build relationships with our families here in Grants Pass.
