1 September 25, 2016 Our History: SAVAGE STREET Church of Christ The Savage Street Church of Christ began on March 4, 1923 at 6th and H Streets. After sometime on Evelyn Street, we moved to our present location on March 20, 1960 The Lord responds to evil behavior The Lord spoke a parable through Isaiah the prophet, saying that He had made a vineyard, and done everything necessary to have fruit. However, when the Lord came to His vineyard, it had wild grapes that were not any good. Therefore, He told Israel, And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it. For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help. (Isaiah 5.5 7) He would remove the vineyard s protection, He would not take care of it, and He would not water it. Then He revealed what the vineyard represented, and what the wild grapes were. The vineyard was Israel and Judah, and the wild grapes were oppression and unrighteousness. The Lord cannot ignore His people when they ignore His call for righteousness. Truly, they will suffer for their neglect. DR Part of Paul s argument is this, For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them (Galatians 3.10). If you seek to do the Law of Moses, and the things in it that were only for Israel, then you must seek to do all those things, for if you do not, you are under the curse of the Law, and if you are under the curse of the Law, you need forgiveness from the Lord. However, He discontinued the levitical sacrificial system, and so sacrifices for forgiveness cannot be offered according to the Law. That means, such a person remains under a curse, because he has rejected the new system that the Lord put in place wherein forgiveness now comes through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ only. DR Can you keep all the Law of Moses? Someone persuaded the churches of Galatia that they needed to keep circumcision in order to be saved, but the Holy Spirit had Paul write the Book of Galatians to refute that idea.

3 Brother Don Patton sent this to me recently, showing what we can pray for in regards to Turkey, which is where Mt. Ararat is located. Praying these things for Turkey will not only help the nation spiritually, but will also open doors for Don s team to climb the mountain in their quest to discover Noah s Ark. Don Ruhl PRAYERS FOR THE TURKISH WORLD September Following the failed military coup of July 15th, Turkey s parliament declared a three month state of emergency. It allows the government to rule by decree, passing bills that have the force of law unless overturned by the parliament. Ask God to restrain any who seek to misuse this situation for personal or political gain. 2. Daily PKK terror attacks by Kurdish revolutionaries are usually aimed at police, military and government targets. Pray for peace and reconciliation between the government and its Kurdish antagonists. 3. Government leaders claim that Muslim cleric Fetullah Gülen ordered his followers to initiate the recent coup attempt. He fled prosecution in Turkey many years ago following similar charges, and found refuge in the United States under the questionable protection of a number of American politicians. Theories linking US authorities with Gülen and the coup attempt have resulted in strong Anti-American sentiment throughout Turkey. If its request to extradite Mr. Gülen doesn t receive a favorable and prompt response from the US government, violence against American targets in Turkey will likely follow. Pray that the US will respond appropriately. 4. Ask the Lord to use the changing balance of power in the country to create new opportunities for the Gospel. 5. Many Turks and Kurds are fearful about the future. Pray that believers will seize opportunities to share the hope they have in Christ. 6. A church in Istanbul had a number of baptisms at its recent summer camp. Afterward, the congregation was apalled to learn that photos of the baptisms were featured in a number of national newspapers. Please intercede for the protection of the converts involved. Some may face the loss of jobs and serious persecution. 7. Kucak (kew-jawk) Ministries has served children throughout Turkey since Its name refers to the loving embrace one gives a child, and the staff certainly fulfills this role on a regular basis. They publish excellent Christian materials for children, Sunday School teachers, and parents, and also sponsor a number of yearly children s camps. Their work is greatly appreciated among Turkish believers and churches. For 26 years they ve worked out of small rented offices. But, now they hope to purchase a larger facility of their own in a location that is easily accessible. They have half the funds needed for this. Pray for the continued effectiveness of the Turkish Bible Correspondence Course as it seeks to reach all corners of Turkey. For over 50 years It has been used by the Lord to bring many to salvation and the knowledge of God s word. 9. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has turned the nation away from close ties with Western Europe and the United States and to closer relations with Russia and Iran. Some in his government are even suggesting that Russian forces be stationed at Incirlik Air Base, which is currently manned by Americans. Pray that this weakening of Western influence will not lead to tyranny and dictatorial rule. 10. The country reportedly has over 85,000 active mosques and 90,000 imams far more imams than doctors or teachers. Friday prayer attendance in the nation s mosques exceeds that of Iran, and religion classes teaching Sunni Islam are compulsory in public schools in spite of rulings against this by the European Court of Human Rights. Ask the Lord to expose the Turkish people to the Gospel to the same extent they re presently being exposed to the teachings of Islam. This is certainly possible with the Almighty God we serve. 11. In footage broadcast on state television, a Turkish imam recently advocated arresting anyone who doesn t perform the standard Muslim prayer five times a day. He said such persons should be jailed for three days and then receive an opportunity to recant. If they refuse, he said they should be killed and their bodies dumped on a refuse heap without the dignity of a burial. Pray that this religious leader and others like him will be dismissed and no longer salaried by the national government. 12. Pray that the national parliament will fully restore freedom of speech once the current state of emergency ends. 13. ISIS terrorists often target tourists and tourist centers; however in August its associates were tied to a huge loss of lives in the bombing of a wedding celebration in the Southeastern city of Gaziantep. Pray that this evil organization will be politically and socially alienated, de-funded and totally destroyed. 14. The Prime Minister says followers of the US based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen spent years infiltrating Turkey s institutions with the goal of overthrowing the secular state and re-establishing a Muslim caliphate. Many of his disciples had thought Gülen to be the Mahdi, the end-time world ruler foretold in Muslim prophecies. Most are probably disheartened and disillusioned. Pray that they will be drawn to the message of salvation broadcast in Turkish by satellite television and the Internet.

Undoubtedly, President Washington knew the following passage from the Book of Hosea, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hos 4.6). And this one from Isaiah, Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge; their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst (Isa 5.13).
